Will Brian Hoyer be in Cleveland next season?
-
I'll say it...if we trade picks to move up and get a QB this year I'll be mad. I'd rather keep weeden then then trade all those players away. This draft is supposed to be great! Hoyer may not be the next Great QB but I'm willing to play it out. I've seen enough QB play in Cleveland to know know he's a lot better than what we're used to.Thomas and Jackson aint getting any younger.

I doubt it.

The Browns will resign Hoyer and stand by him. But the draft is in May and he'll be nowhere close to showing what he can do coming off the injury... and the Browns will use all that draft artillery to get their elite quarterback high up.
Chances are they won't get anywhere close to Bridgewater... but they'll move up to take Boyd, Mariota, or Hundley. You have to have the courage of your convictions. You decide what quarterback you want and you go get him. Because if you don't have a great quarterback, you don't even get a lane on the track. You watch from the stands.
You want the three best players on your team to be your quarterback, left tackle, and primary pass rusher. That's where you use your highest draft assets. You want them to be the three highest paid players. That's "team building."

Him and Weeden will both be here competing with whoever we draft. Campbell is gone.

I hope we pay very close attention through the off season to his recovery. If he is making a full recovery we should not trade up to get a QB. We should work on our o-line, add a db, wr and rb. A quarterback in the 3 or 4th round for project would be great. I am 100% convinced Hoyer can be a VERY good NFL starting QB.

i don't care if we draft a QB. i just care that banner and lombardi don't do the trade 2 picks to move up one spot. it is the most Retarded thing to do period. if next year's draft is so QB deep then stand pat and pick the best QB available.
the question with hoyer is his injury and how it will affect him physically and mentally. i don't care how much lombardi loves him if he can't make the roster then see ya. same with anyone else.

They won't trade the other first to move up one spot... but I could see using it to move from 10 to 5 to get the guy they really want (no idea yet who that might be... it's Boyd for me). It's the reason they added the other pick. They basically said so.
Sign from the top of the f/a pile at corner and WR. Draft a RB in round 2. Still have two third round picks, both pretty early (ours and the Steelers). Could easily move them for a mid-2nd round pick if we still need a right guard (Lauvao played well Thursday).
Tough to follow that plan and find weak spots... and we'll certainly sign more than 2 free agents with that 30 mill... and we have a pair of 4th round picks that could be combined into a third.
The Browns don't need to cling to that other first round pick at all. They have more draft and free agent assets than they can use, really. The primary need is at QB unless you already have a franchise guy.
However we do it, even after trading up with the other first round pick, this team could easily sign four upgrades and draft another three... and we don't have that many openings. Right now, we may not have ANY openings on defense.

Hoys lost his composure on the run that may end up costing him his career. His top priority, and it really isn't a tough one, is to protect himself at all cost. Dude was gripping hard and forgot all about fundamentals with his half assed attempt at a slide. Coach Turner needs to take a large part of blame also. He did not prepare Hoyer properly and his fucked up incompetence will have significant short and long term implications...If he hasn't already been tuned up by Chuds, B and L he needs to be. I'd show the loser the door. Without accountability you have nothing.
ACL reconstruction is a heavy duty trauma to the body and psyche. Look how tough a time RG3 has had. The jury is still out on him. Hoyers market value took a major hit and there are going to be a lot of questions. Will he ever be the same guy he was before Thursday night? That's the million dollar question and odds are that he won't. I like the kid but he is facing a tough battle that most professional athletes don't win.
Really, this whole episode has troubled me. . Time for a Makers rocks.

Maybe, or maybe they like a qb and a wr or interior lineman. No single college qb has pulled away from the pack yet, I'm liking Bridgewater more but his small frame and low release is an issue.

I don't think spending huge in FA is a good idea. Building through the draft is the most economical way to go. Sooner or later you will have yourself in salary cap hell.

The Browns don't need to cling to that other first round pick at all. They have more draft and free agent assets than they can use, really. The primary need is at QB unless you already have a franchise guy.we are far from deep at any position on either side of the ball. Pissing away quality midround picks just to make a big splash makes no sense. We have no rb's O-line has holes and needs depth. Need depth at LB, S, CB, TE. Another WR either at the 1 or 2 spot, PK is something that will be addressed with a late round pick. And the obvious qb position. So that's nine picks right there at positions of need.
However we do it, even after trading up with the other first round pick, this team could easily sign four upgrades and draft another three... and we don't have that many openings. Right now, we may not have ANY openings on defense.again build through the draft and we have openings on both sides of the ball. This team isn't completely ready for a deep run at the playoffs yet.

Rg3's was completely fucked and it happened in a huge playoff game. Hoyer will have a minimum 3 months longer than rg3 to heal and he doesn't have the mental pressure of having let the team down at the worst time possible.

Totally disagree, Erie. I think this team is a great quarterback from 10-6 today, right now. Dead solid guarantee you we'll sign 3-4 fairly prominent young free agents. We did last year and next year we're almost compelled by the CBA. If we also drafted in the high first, second, two thirds, two fourths and a fifth all expected to make the team? That's almost more youth than this team can stand, frankly.
You put a top tier QB, a 2nd round RB, and a serious free agent #2 WR (Gordon is a #1) on this team? With this defense? 12-4. Depth? That's what the 4ths, 5th, and 6th are for, and UDFAs. And lower-tier f/a.
You gotta get the quarterback. There are no shortcuts.

Hoyer will be back next year because he has fans in the FO and can mentor the qb we pick up in the draft. Weeden is back only if he leads the team to the playoffs. Campbell is out if he does, maybe he stays if weeden fails.

don't know how much faith I'd have in a teammate with a whole three starts under his belt "mentoring" me. there is no substitution for live game experience. you either hit the numbers or you don't. The Browns need to dump the concept of "mentoring" and qb "development". It's just a smokescreen they hide behind when they realize they picked the wrong guy. And, as we all know, they've got plenty of success at that.
every fucking year we have the endless drivel of who and how we should pick the "guy" for QB. that's all well and good but does it always have to be four or five games into the season when the imprudent speculation begins? don't get me wrong, if you enjoy the banter and discussions more power to you. But for me, I'd rather watch a banana turn brown.

Put the bottle away......I'll be the reincarnation of E Hemmingway after a few more. But, I doubt if you know who that is.

We're screwed either way it seems. But the whole idea of just throwing away picks to move up because we're a "deep" team is Retarded.
-
The Browns won't trade picks to move up. This qb class doesn't have qb's that are that elite from
the rest of the class.
Mariotta is #1 one place, Bridgewater is #1 someplace else, a couple of others are spoken of as
having the ability to surge ahead of them.
I just want them to draft a qb, and they will, who sees the field in the pros, like a Kosar, Peyton....
he doesn't have to be the fastest dual threat, the biggest arm. He just has to be the guy. If he had
a stronger arm, I'd draft Minnion and let him learn behind Hoyer for a year, or part of it. Minnion
so far, would probly be a second rounder. But he sees the field perhaps the best of any other qb
talked about as going in the high first round. We'll see.
