fred davis a mid rounder? F outta here with that. Better be a first rounder.

The Skins don't have a 1st rd pick but this is the offer we came up with on the Skins board:

Kirk Cousins and filler for Josh Gordon and whatever.

    Interested?

Cousins, high 2nd, and change your name to the Washington Red Turds, and we'll consider it.

  • Browns like Fred Davis and they'd love to run more 12 formations next year with two TEs, often in the slots. Cameron and Davis would be a handful, matchup wise.

The Browns won't move Gordon without getting value. That would be a first round pick or a starter and a 2nd round pick. Not a third. No way in hell.

Receivers are about as good as their QB with VERY few exceptions, guys with insane reception radiuses like Megatron or AJ. I love Gordon but he has some serious character issues, including seeming highly disinterested last week. If Steve Smith is the fieriest WR, Gordon is on the other end of the spectrum. Obviously he has a history of gettin' his party on, but kids do grow up.

Banner and Lombardi know finding their elite QB is hard. Finding guys to catch his passes, while necessary, isn't as hard. They'd love to have Davis, Cameron, and Dion Lewis for starters. Then they'll add a WR high in the draft and another in free agency. When I say high in the draft, it's probably the highest of the two 2nd rounders we'd have (if indeed we moved Gordon).

Basically, the Browns would commit their two first rounders to getting Mariota (for example, and I do love that kid)... and then have two picks in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th rounds. They could pretty easily get back into the late 1st with a high 2nd and high 3rd, and have picks in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and two 4ths. PLUS 30 mill for f/a.

Getting a couple high-level WRs wouldn't be tough.

I hear ya, but we have been drafting WRs high for 14 years and Gordon has been the only "high-level" one

    WR 2012s 2 0 0 Josh Gordon Baylor
    2012 4 5 100 Travis Benjamin Miami (FL)
    2011 2 27 59 Greg Little North Carolina
    2010 6 8 177 Carlton Mitchell South Florida
    2009 2 4 36 Brian Robiskie Ohio State
    2009 2 18 50 Mohamed Massaquoi Georgia
    2008 6 25 191 Paul Hubbard Wisconsin
    2007 7 24 234 Syndric Steptoe Arizona
    2006 3 14 78 Travis Wilson Oklahoma
    2005 1 3 3 Braylon Edwards Michigan
    2002 2 15 47 Andre Davis Virginia Tech
    2001 2 2 33 Quincy Morgan Kansas State
    2001 7 45 245 Andre King Miami (FL)
    2000 2 1 32 Dennis Northcutt Arizona
    2000 3 17 79 JaJuan Dawson Tulane
    1999 2 1 32 Kevin Johnson Syracuse
    1999 5 15 148 Darrin Chiaverini Colorado
Guys in bold were all first and second rounders. KJ , Braylon and Northcutt had careers, but were not "high level"
One out of nine was "high level". Let's hand him away so we can take another shot at it?

  • But it wasn't this administration and they've all played with shitty quarterbacks, Z. And aside from the horrific Mo/Robiskie draft, most weren't high picks. Listing 7th rounder Paul Hubbard doesn't mean much.

IF the Browns made that trade, I'd see us shopping for a pretty serious WR in free agency with the promise that we're drafting a quarterback in the top 5. Then I'd draft another WR with our 39th pick (ish).

Also, the big guy the Browns got from the Packers (6'2" and 215) ran a 4.38 at his pro day. The Packers weren't thrilled at losing him at all. He'll be in the mix with Little, Bess, Benjamin, and Gurley... plus the two high-end adds, Jordan Cameron, Fred Davis, and Dion Lewis.

Lots of options for guys to catch the ball if we can find a quarterback.

    Again ... guys in bold.

    Nine of them.

One of them played at a "high level", he is currently on the roster and you want to trade him.

You think a better QB would make stars out of Little, Robiskie, Massaquoi, Andre Davis and Quincy Morgan?

Those guys are second rounders. Josh Gordon is a first round talent. So ... trade him for a second rounder and risk coming up with one of those guys again?

    Why?

Everyone knows we are drafting a QB next year. Everyone. We have two first round picks to secure the one we want.

Hey look ... we have a legit 22 year old #1 receiver ... let's trade him for a second rounder and give our new rookie QB a crapshoot.

    Why?

I'll stop you when you name a legit #1 wideout for our new QB to build around.

Yes, "WRs grow on trees, it doesn't matter, it only matters who the QB is" ... yet all the teams with QBs want our WR ... why give away the WR before we bring in Our QB? So we can draft and develop and "hope" again?

Here's a thought ... keep our best assets (Gordon, Thomas, Mingo, Haden) and put all of our resources into getting the best QB for the franchise.

    Absolutely not.

I don't see this infatuation with Cousins. He's a backup QB. He has some talent and he could be molded into a starter, but he's no franchise QB.

Cousins and a 1st rounder for Gordon, straight up...then were talking.

Any thing less than a first, no thanks.

  • Packaging weeden with Gordon would only lower Gordons trade value.

^+1 on everything Z said. We've been trying to land a top 10 talent @ wr for 14 years, had one for one year with Braylon Edwards. That doesn't cut it. Sure Gordon's a drug risk. Von Miller happens to be in the same boat as Gordon, and you don't see the Broncos shopping him around do you? There are NO guarantees (especially with our crap draft history & was pointed out the 2013 draft has yielded NADA except Mingo to date) in the draft. If you want to guarantee me that pick we get for Gordon turns into another Marvin Harrison or Wes Welker, instead of a Brian Robiskie- I'm all for it. What's that you say? You can't? I absolutely HATE the idea of trading away a proven talent to take a crap shoot in the draft.

I haven't forgotten that other brilliant Browns trade of a stud WR- Paul Warfield for Mike Phipps- how did that one turn out, hmmmmm?

Add in, trading your #1 offensive weapon for a draft pick- that's "doing everything we can to win games" ? In what year?

  • Below is the Stats for WR this season so far by Yds per game. Gordon is in amongst what you would call all Elite recieves in this League, so why would anyone trade that assist away in the hope of getting another one anywhere like it. We took the risk on the kid with 2nd round pick in the supplemental draft and while he plays we have a WR we have not seen for many years, so suspension looming or not keep hold of him, and hope he stays clean for a couple of years so the Drug policy reverts back to as if he never been tested positive, and he will be starting with a clean slate, and hopefully by then he will realise what a oppurtunity he has been given to become a great WR in this league.

  • all you guys that want three number ones realize that 2 of those would already have been spent on moving up to draft our 'new' franchise QB. so what's that leave the last pick in the first for lombardi to fuck up on again.

  • Hey first post here. The FO is turning this into a circus it's easy don't trade him.

First of all, none of us know what picks were offered. A "high draft pick" could easily be a second rounder.

I wouldn't take it for anything less than a mediocre teams first rounder and an immediate starter.

That would leave us with a high first round, a middle first round and a late first round pick, a second rounder, and two third rounders.

We could easily get a starting caliber WR, QB, RB, RG, and #2 CB out of those 6 picks without having to package any picks and move up.

With the way we're playing, we can assume we'll have a top 6 pick. With these three or four "can't miss" prospects that Shep continues to harp about, the odds are in our favor we'll get one of them.

Problem is- history has shown some of Shep's "can't miss" quarterback prospects- have missed. For every Andrew Luck, there's a Jamarcus Russell. Aren't any guarantees TC.

    Oh I agree.

A top 5 pick doesn't guarantee a franchise QB. The guy I feel best about is a mid round prospect.

I loathed J-Fat. And I think just about anybody can miss. But the only sure way to NOT get a great quarterback is to stop trying. Really, the Browns haven't shopped from the top since Couch.

Stafford and Luck, like Peyton, were picked #1 overall. Ryan and RG3 were also top five.

The Browns will pick their guy in the top 5. It's a matter of whom.

  • BTW, Z, I don't wanna trade Gordon. In a passing league, a true #1 is more important than ever. Sure, WRs are almost wholly at the mercy of their QB (ask Randy Moss from his Oakland days, or Fitzgerald last year), but you want that guy who scares a defense. I'm just making the point that finding a franchise QB is hard and 100% necessary. A lot of teams with great quarterbacks have shown you can shuffle WRs in and out and keep winning.

As far as getting the top guy in the draft, the last three years it's been Manuel, Luck, and Newton. Not bad. Others in the top 10 have been RG3, Tannehill, and Locker. Feels pretty safe... and this year's QB draft is WAY better than last year's.

We're hitting it at a very good time.

Did you notice the Weeden joke? 😮 Anyway, Gordon's from Houston. Practically everyone there drinks drank and/or smokes weed. Hopefully, being away from his hometown and having to worry about his salary will straighten him out. We certainly don't need him following Haden's path.

do you live in Australia, bazooka? the koala looks like a pretty cool animal although I can't think of any animal I would trade for my ROCCO. he is six months old here and should max out at 75 lb. sorry about the topic deviation TCPO. 😁

I just like koalas. The name really rolls off the tongue, too. Cool poodle you have.

  • I hope the FO has the same mindset as many of you... Gordon for a 1st and maybe more... I just think trading him does nothing to help this team, no matter what we get in return... But, if they are dead-set on trading him they will probably take a 2nd rounder which to me makes no sense at all...
