My way-too-early first round mock.

The Browns Board
29 10 839
  • Yeah, I didn't put any trades in there, but we could easily see Cleveland or Houston trading up. The problem will be, though, with only Bridgewater and Mariota - if he declares, which isn't a given - as 'elite' top of the round prospects, and both Jacksonville and Tampa looking for a QB, as well as probably Minnesota, finding a trading partner is going to be difficult and costly.

  • Our O-Line hasn't done great with run blocking, but Pinkston is coming back and I believe that our run game is more on the fact that we have an old man at RB rather than our line as a whole. I'm not saying that I wouldn't be surprised to see us take a lineman with the second 1st round pick or our 2nd rounder, but definitely not with our 1st overall pick.

If we cannot trade up to get a franchise QB or one falls to use, I think we look WR, TE, or FS. Wouldn't be remotely surprised to see us go BPA and grab a D-Lineman, MLB, or CB either.

  • I'm thinking Punkston sits because pass blocking is clicking with Campbell.

But yes, he might be the best run blocking guard we have even though he's only play left side for us.

Well they moved all three around to all the sides during training camp, so at least he was working around before being injured.

  • Solid job. There is nothing wrong in Pittsburgh outside of porous offensive line play and zero pressure from the defensive line. The changing of the guard at a few positions rights the ship so to sit back and say "This team sucks" is incredibly short sighted. I really hope the majority of this board keeps singing that song and the Steelers get to draft inside the top 10. We'll then all see just how fast the ship gets spun around. It's not a team full of holes, it's a team in need of a few pieces and a little continuity. Dick Lebeau may have also punched his retirement card.

Yup, that's all on LeBeau you got torched for 600 yards and 55 points by the Patsies. "Swiss Cheese" Curtain. Thoroughly enjoyed the beat-down.

Getting Pouncey back will help the O-line- that's assuming Ben doesn't get killed first. If you think you can fill all those holes in one draft lotsa luck. Oh, I forgot- the Steelers never mess up on draft picks. Really- I can't get over the cockiness of Steeler fans- yeah, we might suck this year- but one draft and we're back to the Super Bowl. Hate to tell you- it ain't happening.

And us Browns fans profoundly thank you for donating that high 2014 third round pick we got from you last year. Hehe reeked of a Holmgren panic move- your FO saw the wheels coming off (unlike a lot of Steeler fans) and made a move they're gonna regret.

  • OK, so I know it's way too early, but I love the draft, looking at the team's weaknesses and where we can get a free upgrade. In trying to figure out who'd be available I did most of this anyway.

I'm sure everyone will disagree with at least 5-10 picks on here but meh, it really is way too early for any of us to be right. Most of all, I'm sure most people will hate going OL with the first pick...

    1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

    Teddy Twatwater, QB

Unfair on Glennon, maybe, but Tampa is bringing in a new coach, at least, and possibly a new front office. They have talented players, but not a talented coach, and lost their franchise signal caller to insanity.

    2. Jacksonville

    Marcus Mariota, QB

How bad does Tampa have to be to be drafting ahead of the Jags?! Anyway, QB is the answer here, unless they sign one in FA. Mariota is the next guy up after Bridgewater.

    3. Minnesota Vikings

    Jadeveon Clowney, DE

With Jared Allen and that other guy both out of contract at the end of the season, the Vikings' pass rush will need a makeover. Step forward Jadeveon Clowney

    4. Pittsburgh Steelers

    Jake Matthews, OT

The team sucks and is on a downward trend as they get older. But most of all, their O-Line is horrible, and this is causing reverberations around the team. While big ben is standing, he can make plays, as we saw against NE on Sunday, but they need to keep him standing first.

    5. Atlanta Falcons Anthony Barr, OLB

Unfortunately BPA does not meet position of need, but there's no sense in reaching. Their struggles have been in running, but there's no RB, and certainly no OG worth taking here. So they upgrade the pass rush with the best pass rusher that hasn't had a lame season.

    6. NY Giants

    Taylor Lewan, OT

They could conceivably go either side of the ball here, but keeping pressure off of Eli Manning will go a very long way to improving the offense and making this team a legitimate playoff contender again.

    7. Houston Texans

    Louis Nix, DT

The biggest question mark is at QB, but taking any of them here is a big reach, even Jonny Football. They're a prime candidate to move up, or down, but there isn't anyone around this area that would represent a huge upgrade. So, stab in the dark, really.

    8. St Louis Rams

    Sammy Watkins, WR

With two relatively high picks (thanks to RG3's knees), St Louis has a chance to grab a playmaker here to go with Tavon Austin - when he finally comes good - and give Sam Bradford a legitimate No1 receiver

    9. Buffalo Bills

    CJ Mosley, OLB

An excellent run game is offset by a horrible passing game. But that should pick up when EJ Manuel comes back. The D is very middle of the road, ranking 17th against the pass and 18th against the run. Mosley should help on both counts

    10. Baltimore Ravens

    Mike Evans, WR

The D is solid enough, but is worse than last year. It can't carry an offense that has gone from 'respectable' to 'awful' in one offseason.

    11. Oakland Raiders

    Cameron Erving, OT

    Dear Santa,

Please don't let me get sacked 10 times in a game ever again.

    Your friend,

    Terrell Pryor.

    12. St Louis Rams

    Khalil Mack, OLB

With the playmaker secured, the Rams can focus on the less glamourous positions

    13. Philadelphia Eagles

    Johnny Manziel, QB

Wouldn't you just love it? Outside of Mariota, who already knows the playbook, there's no QB better suited to Chip Kelly's scheme, and arguably no scheme better suited to Manziel's talents.

    14. Cleveland Browns

    Cyril Richardson, OG

The Browns shock the world - by not taking a QB with their first pick. The run game has been horrible this season - when you're praying for Shaun Luavao to get back because Oniel Cousins sucks so much, you're in trouble. Richardson would immediately help the running game, and create large gaps for Dion Lewis and another back to run through.

    15. San Diego Chargers

    Marquis Lee, WR

Looking for playmakers on the outside, Lee is a risk with his drops and injuries, but is undeniably talented.

    16. Arizona Cardinals

    Brett Hundley, QB

Carson Palmer is not the answer, but he could start for another year while Hundley takes the traditional QB route of sitting for 8-16 games to learn the offense.

    17. Miami Dolphins

    Antonio Richardson, OT

Ryan Tannehill looks good enough, when not flat on his backside. Keeping him upright should be a priority for the Dolphins in the offseason.

    18. Tennessee Titans

    Trent Murphy, DE/OLB

The Titans need run-stopping help in a bad way, but there's none to be had around here. Trent Murphy will help get to the QB, though, which is always nice.

    19. Chicago Bears

    Ryan Shazier, OLB

The Bears have sacked the QB 14 times this season. That's pretty woeful, and should be addressed in the offseason. The entire defense is injured, more or less, but they could still use more talent.

    20. Green Bay Packers

    HaHa Clinton-Dix, FS

The packers could use an upgrade at free safety, and Clinton-Dix is the top safety in the draft. 2+2=…

    21. New York Jets

    Cyrus Kouandjio, OT

The Jets have allowed 31 sacks so far this season. Not good. Keep Geno up, let him grow, and you might be on to something.

    22. Dallas Cowboys

    Vic Beasley, DE

The defence needs an upgrade, pretty much everywhere. Beasley is the best defender left on the board at this point.

    23. Carolina Panthers

    Eric Ebron, TE

Greg Olsen is serviceable, but Cam Newton Needs another weapon in there. The D is ready to compete, but the O is holding them back right now.

    24. Detroit Lions

    Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, CB

A shaky passing defense needs help. There's none to be had in pass rush, but the secondary gets a boost with the top CB on the board.

    25. Cincinnati Bengals

    Jason Verrett, CB

With no glaring holes, the Bengals can relax and pick BPA, who happens to be Jason Verrett here, who'll give an average secondary a bit of a boost.

    26. Cleveland Browns

    Allen Robinson, WR

The Browns go with a WR here. Greg Little needs to play like he did on Sunday for the rest of the season for that to happen, and Davone Bess needs to keep converting crucial downs. Otherwise, it's WR here.

    27. New Orleans Saints

    RaShede Hageman, DT

The Saints are awful at stopping the run, at an average of over 120 ypg. Hageman's physicality helps that.

    28. San Francisco 49ers

    Jordan Matthews, WR

Guess where the 49ers rank in passing offense? Last. Yep. An average of 190 ypg, being propped up by their league leading 150+ ypg rushing. Matthews adds another weapon in there, and is a cousin of Jerry Rice, which is nice.

    29. New England Patriots

    Jace Amaro, TE

Well, there goes one WR needy team, and here comes another. The Pats can't get a WR here, but they can get a receiving TE to complement Gronk, and take over when he's injured.

    30. Denver Broncos

    Stephen Tuitt, DE

    Denver's D stinks. Tuitt doesn't.

    31. Seattle Seahawks

    Austin Seferian-Jenkins

Seattle is another team that could use some weapons in the passing game, and Sefarian-Jenkins is just that

    32. Kansas City Chiefs

    Tajh Boyd

Alex Smith is very solid, but I don't think San Francisco will be the last team to decide he's not SB material. Tajh Boyd can sit, learn and work on his deficits while Smith continues as the starter for a year or two.

So go ahead, pick it apart - if nothing else it'll give us something to talk about on a bye week (besides the QB debate and how to get something out of the running game).

I doubt we're going to take a guard in the first round. Tend to agree with Shep- one of the first rounders will probably be a qb.

You're probably right, but I just couldn't see anyone that would represent value at that spot and was at a position of any kind of need. Even the guy I picked was a reach. Everyone else available was either OT or OLB. Or would you take Brett Hundley, if he were to fall that far? Marquis Lee? Those were the two I was considering.

🙂 Chris, I'm not that much of a Draftnick. Good job, but let's let the rest of this season play out. Plenty of time in the off season to speculate.

As I say, I was just a bit bored and we're on a bye week. Plus a little excitement for Christmas (in itself probably too early) spilled over to the draft 😛

That is like saying that "there is nothing wrong with this team except the offense and the defense"

The changing of the guard at a few positions rights the ship so to sit back and say "This team sucks" is incredibly short sighted.

Short sighted? It is accurate. You have a problem with accuracy? For now, they suck. Maybe at some time in the future they will be better. You can say that about 31 other teams that are not the defending champions.

I really hope the majority of this board keeps singing that song and the Steelers get to draft inside the top 10. We'll then all see just how fast the ship gets spun around.

What makes you think that drafting inside the Top 10 will make that big of a difference in one year? How many times have the Browns/Bengals drafted in the Top 10 and it not make a difference? And given the Steelers recent track record of not really making all that great of picks in the first round it would be at best 50/50 that you would get a real player there.

It's not a team full of holes, it's a team in need of a few pieces and a little continuity.

Yea, the only holes it has are the offensive line, defensive line, defensive backfield and offensive skill positions. In other words, everywhere but the LB position.

Dick Lebeau may have also punched his retirement card.

And that will be your biggest loss of all.

  • Honestly, we get to see if the footballing gods really hate Cleveland in this offseason - in Pittsburgh.

Step 1 - Mike Tomlin gets canned

Step 2 - Ray Horton hired as HC

    Step 3 - draft Clowney

Step 4 - Clowney and Jones tee off on the Browns, after Joe Thomas goes down for the season and Alex Mack isn't re-signed.

That's exactly what i told you was wrong with your team last year and this preseason when you were predicting playoff runs.

The changing of the guard at a few positions rights the ship so to sit back and say "This team sucks" is incredibly short sighted.

Either it does suck or it doesn't suck. Being 2-6 and just giving up 55 points ... well, that goes under "does suck".

I really hope ... the Steelers get to draft inside the top 10.

There's that Pittsburgh Spirit! Not "I hope we go 10-6 and shove it in your faces" or "I hope we sweep your ass" or "Were still not out of this thing if you look at the standings" ... no, "it's I hope we get a Top Ten draft pick"

Because that'll fill one of your six or seven gaping holes.

Good luck with all that ...

  • Again... it's a damn good mock. But I highly recommend you start including Carr because he will go in the first round. He's got everything -- size, arm, wheels, creativity, moxie, and now maturity. He really could end up in or around the top 10. I think Hundley should stay in school but Teddy, Marcus, Johnny, and Carr will all go round one. Mettenberger is fringe.

Love, love, love that huge TE from Texas Tech. If we could get Carr and Chace Whatever without making any trades, we'd have so much flexibility to move up and also get a legit WR and another lineman. Plus, we're almost forced to sign a pretty big crop of serious free agents.

Another thing to consider is that Ward and Mack are free agents of some form at the end of the season. If they wanted, the FO could sing them to big extensions (which they should) and really front load them, to take up a lot of cap space and not force us to overspend in FA. Alternatively, they could let one or both go, which would result in another hole to fill. I doubt they let Ward walk, but maybe Mack? I doubt that too, but I could see it happening.

Yep, I like it. And his name is Jace Amaro. 6'6 250# former bball player who is gonna be a beast in the NFL, but will be in the 2015 NFL draft because he's already announced that he'd be returning his senior year. Othwr TE's I like are Colt Lyerla, who left Oregon to prepare for the draft and has since been popped for drugs. And, Austin S. Jenkins from Washington even though he's having a down year in the stats department.

I never said never in regards to the draft. They've had some bad ones recently. The entire 2008 draft for example.

  • No way Glennon's Bucs end up worse than Henne's Jags.

STL's O-line is pretty bad and they're loaded w/ skill players, so I think they'll pick Erving.

Pryor got sacked 10 times in a game?!

No way PHI ditches Foles now.

Boyd isn't going to be the last pick of the 1st!

  • First round QB totally depends on who's available. He likely won't start regardless.

    Loaded with skill players? Who?

Pryor got sacked 10 times in a game?!

Yeah, against KC. Just checked, they got it as 9, I'm sure I heard 10 somewhere. Either way...

No way PHI ditches Foles now.

Because he beat up on Oakland? I don't think he's the mobile QB Chip Kelly wants.

Boyd isn't going to be the last pick of the 1st!

Then where is he going? KC was the only team down there that could use someone to take over at QB in a couple of years. It made sense.
