not one sack against the 3rd worst O line in the NFL
-
Not one. Of course the Browns O line is ranked just a couple notches below the steelers in terms of sacks allowed, and the Pgh D got their due 5 sacks in against the 5th worst O line in the NFL. Our defense couldn't muster ONE FUCKING SACK against the 3rd worst O line in the NFL. This was supposed to be a stat day for our D. We're not set on our front 7, we're just not. The only ballers we have there are on the D line. I don't know what the problem is. Is our secondary allowing the qb's to get rid of the ball too quick? Is it a scheme thing? Is Horton asking our pass rush to get there too quickly by having our secondary play too soft? Or are the edge guys just not that good? We're paying kruger 8m, he was supposed to be one of the "elite" OLB talents in the NFL. He's not a noob either, he had a few years to study in Blt. Is he gonna get any better? Sheard hasn't exactly put out either. Isn't his rookie contract up this year? He hasnt' exactly played himself into a shiny new contract extension but I might give him one more year cause he had to make the switch from DE to OLB. MIngo looks like he's gonna be a situational pass rusher possibly his whole career. He might be better served as the Will in a 4-3 where he can pick his blitz spots.
I'm really not trying to be "too" down on the browns D cause we did do good things this year as a whole, but there are still some holes that may need addressed in FA or the draft.

here's a sack for you

-
The team has given up. Why play now if you might get hurt? We are done. Thanks FO for keeping Weeden.

We need more then a QB, I hate to clue you.

Right... but we can get all the talent in the world, without finally getting a QB it will be all-for-not...
-
We have a good-to-great WR, a decent TE, and a decent CD. The rest of the team SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
ah, baloney. The sacks are simply because:
1. Rapistbooger got the ball out, FAST. And the wr's are tall, and owens and skrine
are midgets.
2. They threw all over Carder, and sorry, Buster fans,
but Skrine is too freakin short, and often finds himself
out of position to boot. He's a great special teams player,
and occasional nickle back, depending.
3. They played to the Browns weakness - throwing quickly, and
using the weather to pound on a couple of the Browns' linebackers.
-
How many WR screens did the stoolers throw? It was as if the Browns had never seen that play before.
-
We had decent enough pressure on Roethlisberger, for the most part, but his elusiveness is what killed us.
When you have a QB who knows how to maneuver in the pocket, can feel the pressure and react to it, and is big enough to shrug off an ankle tackle, you get games like this. Mingo had him dead to rights, but he stood tall in the pocket and got the ball out, took the hit and got back up. Granted, it was an incomplete pass.
We/re missing key components but have a good foundation built. Add a franchise QB (please, after today, let it be Bortles), add a RT who doesn't suck hog, get an ILB who can step up and lay some lumber, and get a #2 CB and we'll be set. I think you'll be surprised at how much better our receivers play when we get a good QB in there.
Anybody notice how Weeden's first pass was to a wide open Cameron, yet was thrown at about 375 MPH? Weeden is the antithesis of an NFL QB. He's all that is wrong with the world. He's the opposite of Batman.
-
Our Defense against the run sucked today. Haden made critical errors. We sucked overall. Weeden didn't lose this game, the Browns did. They were not prepared. They were soft.

This post and what we need is right on the money. The QB need is obvious and there's no doubt our RT and ILB needs upgraded. I think we are money then.

Amen TC- since I'm assuming @ 330+ you're one of those o-line hogs, I also pay attention to the big guys up front. "The Swartz" needs the Force to be with him. Constantly getting shoved back into the quarterback..
No further sense on beating the dead horse Weeden- he did what a bust does- throw passes with no touch, and fumble a ball away. Only POed about the head shot that took Campbell out of the game- not the only reason we lost though.

BS- on the Haden screw up. Joe was expecting deep help on the TD- why he let up- blame that one on Gipson for not properly diagnosing the play.

our first pick next year will be interesting to say the least. If we stay at 4 wins, which could very well possibly be....we may have a pretty good pick. But maybe not high enough before Bridgewater and Mariota come off. "If" those guys are off the board when we pick, do we still take a qb? Honestly, if the top 2 or 3 qb prospects are off the board I don't want to spend yet another first round on a "maybe/maybe not" qb. I only want to spend the 1st pick on someone who will start opening day, a guy close to what Luck is. And that will take a hell of a football brain, one i'm not sure is there with these prospects next year. Athletically yes, the tools are all there but year after year we see guys come out with all the tools but they just simply can't handle the big league. I dunno....like i said if those top guys are gone and there's an offensive lineman that will start opening day...like another JT, than take that. Or take Clowney if just to keep him away from the other AFC north teams. I really like what I see from Clowney though, he handles the run as well as he pass rushes.

Why do you assume Bridgewater and Mariota aren't "maybe/maybe not" QB's? They're the best of this class, supposedly, but they are no Luck. There is no sure fire #1 QB in this draft. In a draft like this, you take the guy who fits your scheme and has the highest upside couple with the lowest amount of flaws.
I feel there are 4 franchise QB's in this draft, and they aren't all who you'd expect.

i agree with both your posts. man after we pick our 'franchise' QB we should finish the D with the positions you mentioned and then flush the whole right side of the OL with draft picks and FAs.

Tajh Boyd
ILB
CB
WR
RG
RT
in that order
-
It doesn't matter what order, if we take Boyd we will suck next year too.

Jericho cotchery is over 6 feet, the rest of the steelers wide receivers are 5'11 or smaller of the ones that caught passes.
