I don't think saying you don't agree with someone means you are being a total dick. Like I said, it all comes back to Christianity not having as much power as it used to in the US.

Idc what people do in their own homes or at private buildings. I don't want religion affecting public policy at all though because that affects me.

    Good luck with that

  • I have both friends who are religious Christians and those who are atheists. Both say the other group "persecutes" them. For me, they key is just to tolerate each other so long as no one is harming the other.

As for this whole bible thing, I've found most religious texts at book stores to be shelved under the heading "religion." It isn't rocket science, but I think shelving it under fiction is in poor taste, and I'm not even a Christian.

  • Cysko Is absolutely right. Part of Christianity is knowing that you will take s*** from the rest of the world because of your faith. If you don't doubt your faith who gives a rats ass what Costco does?

Somebody at Costco just thinks he, she or they are being funny by being assholes about it. That's all.

    Not much different than woody.

Then again if you call him names and rail at him for his constant insults to Christian faith then I think you are missing the entire point of it.

Ps I am agnostic on my best day, a true lapsed Christian, so I can call him a d******* if I want to. 😁

I disagree. The proper label should be Religion. It isn't fiction, biography, auto-biography, science fiction, or anything else. Possibly if could be under self-help, just like any of the other self help books on the market. Can help those seeking the help, doesn't for those not seeking help.

Yes that is correct. What I agreed with is the fact that Christians should expect kind of crap from non believers. Not that the non believers are right. And I believe the people at Costco did this to insult Christians. I'd guess the New Testament would ask believers to pray for them and love them.

  • You really think Costco did this on purpose? You REALLY think they're trying to piss off a large customer demographic? What is the point in that? Or does it from that fantastical land where Christians are persecuted in America?

I think you've probably got some smart arse shelf stacker probably putting the books in the fiction section, just to try to piss off Christians, yeah.

    Yep.

Otherwise they would have corrected the error the second someone mentioned it and it would never have been a news story.

  • It was probably the woodpecker on his summer internship.

  • 1) lol, what a shit internship

    2) I could see it being a lone guy

    3) I don't see a company trying to piss off Christians. Sounds horrible for business.

  • Where do they have the Quran?

  • Who knows. They could all just be under religion though

You know you're desperate when you start copying cal's "insults"...

No no no. It is clever and it really gets me down. I might leave this board now

  • Hardly desperate. I find you two amusing kids. Like to fuck with your infantile minds.

  • Smh, just because we don't agree with you politically doesn't mean we're "infantile". Hurling insults at strangers is infantile, if anything.

  • Truth hurts?

  • Who knows. They could all just be under religion though

That'd be fine with me. To be honest I couldn't care less what "category" Costco, or any merchant places the Bible in. Mine's an app on my phone. 🥷

  • Used to manage bookstores in Columbus...

We had just rearranged the layout of the store and literally had every book off the shelves moving them around, total overhaul...

Next day a well-dressed fellow comes up to me dead serious and asks to show me something on the shelves. "Ok, lead on," I say.

He takes me down an aisle and points to The Diary of Anne Frank. I say, "yes, I'm familiar with it." Then he points to the sign for the section it was in..... "FICTION".

I chuckle and say "That ain't right, I learned that in 8th grade" and retrieve the book from the shelf and head toward NONFICTION or BIOGRAPHY, when he stops me again and asks me if I am aware that there are people who are trying to discredit The Diary of Anne Frank and say that it is a work of fiction and that the holocaust never happened and demands to know if this is part of that. Again, he is totally serious and a little mad, you can tell.

I apologized and admitted that we had just rearranged and that it was embarrassing to manage clerks who obviously didn't know the difference. Seriously, if you asked these clerks to box some books for you they would find the hugest box in the store and load it with 250 pounds of books that no one else could even push let alone lift. They just weren't critical or practical thinkers, yet neither were they neo-nazis...just ignorant and a little lazy frankly. The guy was still miffed and unbelieving.

So, I have first-hand experience of people screwing this type of thing up by accident and others getting mortally offended by it. Yet, as the manager, it was on me to check their work and right any "wrongs". Maybe CostCo would have found the misplaced Bibles eventually, maybe their placement in FICTION was just so idiotic that no one thought to look for them there. In my stores, they could always be found under RELIGION.

What I doubt is that CostCo was trying to alienate Christians, who are roughly 75% of ANY buying population. It's just bad business IMHO. There are companies that wear their religion on their sleeves..just don't know that CostCo is one of them from my experience.

Talk about fun with books, I managed stores during the OJ trial and his "I Want to Tell You" book, that book got more people up in arms and angry than this Bible controversy...

Then there was the time the mob (as in Goodfellas) in Columbus wanted to make me the Porn King of Dublin, Ohio. But that is another story...
