The Browns defense has 9 INT's and 5 FF's on the year, tied with Pittsburgh for 4th lowest in the AFC and 5th lowest in the NFL.

Conversely, the offense has 15 INT's and 8 fumbles, which is 4th highest in the AFC and around 7th highest in the NFL.

I don't know what you were reading.

Gipper was talking about the last 3 games not the whole season. That's where he was getting his numbers.

I am just documenting the last 3 games.

If Haden had a third int. in their then I must have missed it.

Yeah, he had two against Cincy. One right after another, second one went for a TD.

OK, did I miss anything else? I was checking on the play by play descriptions from NFL .com.

Have the Browns recovered a fumble in the past 3 games? When is the last time they recovered one?

  • Oh I was reading from the second post. I thought the first one was a resuscitation of something Gip and I had talked about in another thread.

See what happens when you assume?

    My fault.

  • Some more data:

    Offensive TOs:

    Least: Kansas City with 12

    NFL avg: 19

    Browns: 23 (25th ranked)

    Worst: 31 Giants

    Defensive TOs:

    Most: 27 Seahawks

    NFL avg.: 19

    Browns: 14 (tied for 26th)

    Worst: 9 Texans/Jets

So, in theory I guess, as bad as the Browns are at giving the ball away (25th), they are slightly worse at taking it away: 26th.

(this represents the entire season. I think they would have been in a hell of a lot better shape prior to the last 3 games)

  • OK, they have been charged with 12 official TOs in the last 3 games (the blocked punts don't count....though they probably should).

That means in 3 games they committed 12...or 4 per game avg., but in the prior 9 games they committed only 11 or an average of only 1.22.

Edit: Is or is not that the definition of choking at crunch time. A win in all 3 of those games would have them leading the race for that last WC race.

If they had only committed 1 or 2 TOs in each of these last 3 games....how many do they win?

  • ...all of them, and nearly all of them were decided because we have the shittiest stable of NFL QBs in the league. All of them are shit. We should have kept McCoy, at the very least you could root for guy, these guys you just root for them to get hurt, each and every one sucks fat fucking thumbs.

  • I think we need to beat the "we should've kept Colt" horse just a little bit more. I don't think it's quite beaten to death yet.

Have you seen the Jets/Jags/Texans QBs? We had decent (hoyer) to mediocre (Campbell) QBs but they got hurt and we are left with Wheezy and Hanieeeeeee.

  • Coulda, shoulda, woulda.....blah, blah, blah. Who gives a damn!? We have what we have & we are what we are. Can we just live in the present & trust THIS FO to take us to a better place?

  • I think it may be fair to say that it is the Turnovers that have led directly to the Browns defeat the last 3 games. Here is a litany of those offenses:

Campbell intercepted by Gordon of Cincy

    Lanning has punt blocked

Lanning has second punt block...result Bengals TD

    Ogbannaya fumbles....result Bengals TD

Campbell intecepted by Nelson of Cincy..result TD

Campbell intercepted by Johnson of Cincy

    Ogbannaya fumbles vs. Pitt

    Campbell fumbles

    Weeden fumbles

    Weeden interception by Gay...result TD

Weeden intercepted by Cyprien of Jax

Weeden intercepted by Gratz of Jax

    Weeden fumble

    Alex Mack fumble, result safety

(yes, officially the fumble is credited to Mack...probably rightly so.

So Campbell is responsible for 4 TOs, Ogbanaya for 2, Lanning for 2, Weeden for 5, and Mack for one.

So, to me, there is plenty of freeking blame to go around.

Funny way to think of it... Reminded me of the M.A.S.H. football sequence... "What do you think you are a damn cannon?"

Not really if you consider that Alex Mack was the last person with his hands on the ball on that play...an considering it really was his fault.
