  • I'm so terribly sorry to have caused you such displeasure, how I can have the temerity to post some statistics followed some small analysis and ask a question is beyond me. I realise now the magnitude of my mistake - how very dare I look at a problem area and try to open a discussion with other fans of the same organisation as to how it can be improved. I should instead have entered in to mindless denigrating of referees, steelers, referees, jets, referees, brandon weeden, referees, the coaches, and referees.

Here's a list of our leading rushers this season:

    McGahee - 377 yards, 2.7 ypc, 2TD

    Ogbonnaya - 240 yards, 4.9 ypc

    Richardson - 105 yards, 3.4 ypc

    Baker - 102 yards, 4.1 ypc, 2TD

    Campbell - 101 yards, 7.8 ypc

    Josh Gordon - 88 yards, 17.6 ypc

This is worrying - the guy in third place on the team hasn't been with us since game 2. The guy just behind him has only been with us for 2 games. Then we have our QB and a WR - who is on there because of only 5 end-arounds. Ogbonnaya looks solid, in limited use, but his fumbles have hurt him. For the curios, Fozzy is averaging 2.8 ypc.

Which of those RBs would you actually keep? Assuming you need to fill 4 rosters spots with RBs and a FB, who would you be looking to keep/build around? Who has shown the burst required, and/or the ability to not go down on first contact.

The bad news I'd say is that the two guys that fill those criteria are not guys with anywhere near a big enough sample set to count on, Baker and Lewis.

Lewis showed in pre-season some evade-ability and looked like he'd be a big contributor for us this year until he got injured. So now all we know is that he looked good in a couple of pre-season games. So did Weeden.

Baker's first run last night (I think) showed what he brings to the table - he took the hand-off, ran up the middle, got hit at the LOS by a jet defender, and managed to spin it round for a couple of yards. Only a 2 yard run, but those two yards were hard earned, after contact. It's the line's job to get him further up the field before contact, it's his job to make sure that the contact doesn't end the run. about 4 yards per carry, plus 2 TDs, make him an intriguing prospect for next year but, like Lewis, it's not like we can count on him to be a big contributor next year given that he's only played in two games.

Ogbonnaya? Well, maybe, he's been ok, but I'm not convinced. He's had a decent amount of carries for decent yardage, but can you ever say you're confident when it's 3rd and 2 and we hand off to him?

Baker is worth an extended look. If Oby is under contract then bring him back and let him compete as a tailback, not a fullback, if he's not under contract, let him go.

Dion Lewis is a role plyer, not an every down back, so we need to find starters at both FB and RB and Lewis will have a role and Baker and maybe Oby can compete for roster spots.

These assholes don't want anything to do with a fullback, apparently. Yesterday on one drive the Browns had like 8 chances to run the ball in from inside the 5 or 10....and had to settle for a FG. And not on one single play did they put a fullback in the game.

Hell, OK, so they don't have a real "fullback" on the team. Put freeking Billy Winn in there with his 320 pounds to open a hole.

It apparently never crossed their mind to do so.

I didn't get why they didn't at least attempt a 'winn' package, he's done it before - I guess they weren't impressed with his previous attempts.

  • Fuck Baker, screw Fozzy. Obie can be third in the depth charts.

Dion Lewis will make a great change of pace and up tempo back.

The Browns need a bruiser. A guy to win at the point of attack.

After watching Lacy and Bell play yesterday a power back is sounding pretty good.

  • Yeah right fat chance..maybe if he played for "the U" when's the last time the Browns drafted someone from the big ten or mac?

The Browns already have the perfect blue print for success all they need to do is...the opposite.

    To answer your question:

Big Ten: Eric Hagg, Nebraska 7th round DB 2011

    (prior to that: Brian Robiskie)

MAC: Charlie Frye QB Akron 3rd round 2005.

    Note this trivia though:

In 2011 and 2012 the NFL drafted more defensive players in rounds 1 and 2 out of the Big Ten than they did out of the SEC.

(Just thought I would show TCPO what he would learn if he paid attention to the trivia. 😎

  • If Oby is our FB next year I will contemplate not watching football anymore.

  • Hyde would be my choice, any idea where he is projected? I have not begun my mock draft season yet.

  • I need to see some 40 times from Hyde before I make a judgement. Is he Michael Bush or Steven Jackson?

  • It isn't so much who the rb's are. Football is more complex than that. The qb situation lends itself to

focus on stopping the run, in several ways. And the wr's, types of, adds to that.

Without a very explosive, quick getting open wr, defenses know to look for those mostly worthless outlet passes

    Campbell throws automatically.

Double cover Gordon, work to stop Cameron, and the Browns are pretty much screwed over, with little other options, pun intended, with a qb that doesn't get it.

If defenses see that the qb is slow to see the field, make his reads, without that explosive wr, they just shut down

the los, and that's that, as long as the double coverage on Gordon worked.

Especially when Cameron is out. With Hoyer and Cameron in there, this offense is only desperately lacking

an explosive wr, and qb. A star rb would be great. But adding only one piece of the puzzle doesn't compete it.

I remember the Browns defense dumping Earl Campbell and Franco Harris on their faces into the turf, behind

the los. When that happens, it's beating the blocking, and that isn't because the offensive line all of a sudden

sucks. It's because the defensive set matched the play called, and all the parts of the defense worked.

That's just how I watch football, that's all.
