Around the league, the Browns hc job is now "radioactive"

There's 32 such jobs. It will be filled by someone wanting to succeed on his own merit, not a league suck up. Let those types stay away.

No it will be filled by someone with no reputation, and no credentials whatsoever. Haslam thinks if he just throws enough money at a coaching prospect, he'll jump at the opportunity. Maybe you didn't notice, but every top coaching prospect we've interviewed so far has turned us down. There's a reason for that- see the above article, and if you don't think the interviewees didn't have Chud's phone number, guess again.

Great opportunity- to be Banner's and Lobotomy's puppet? To coach a team that's the laughingstock of the NFL? To maybe get fired after one year if he doesn't make the playoffs? No one in their right mind is going to be willing to accept those conditions, unless it's some no-name underling who only wants a way bigger paycheck.

This last move by The Stooges really opened my eyes. So in your estimation, who's left? Gase? Sure, leave a SB team and Peyton Manning to coach the Browns? Get real- there will be far, far better opportunities for him next year. Matzoball from Auburn? Charles Barkley will donate a million to the Athletic Department to keep him there, and so will dozens of other big buck alums.

Here is speculation I have heard: a fair amount of the "guidance" involved in the HC search is being done by the Manning family. Jimmah is tight with Peyton and his dad and Peyton really is high on Gase and has reccomended Gase to Jimmah and Haslam complied with the Mannings request to put Gase high on the list.

Also, it is speculated that if in fact Peyton were to win the SB he may do what he current boss (John Elway) did and ride into the sunset sitting on that championship. And, at the end of that trail? A FO job with the Cleveland Browns.

  • And then there was 1

    Vikings hiring Zimmer

  • Yup, what coach who has a secure position, other opportunities (this year or in the near future) and other important considerations all of us make when thinking about career, money, moving, next step on a resume, etc., who would uproot his family and life for this?

The last guy was fired after less than a year when, in some ways he did a good job, esp. considering the QB, RB, 1 2013 draft pick did anything worthwhile, roster changes every f'ing week, ending the season with 16 players who were rookie or one-year free agent signees (basically off practice squads or the street) on the 53-man roster - nearly a third of the roster.

The last guy was told who his coordinators would be. The last guy had little or no player personnel input. You'll have to compete with the stability of Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Cincy while being Banner and Lombardi's tool. I know I'm the first scapegoat.

I'm taking my family and everything to Cleveland, ok probably not for one year, but probably 2-3 years unless I get this shitcan to 10-6 and beating out at least two of Pitt/Balt/Cincy by then?

The selling points Haslem has are, "there are only 32 of these jobs in the world," and "I've got a lot of money (for now)."

  • Zimmer wants Norv as OC

  • As if Norm had a prayer of staying after he "provided feedback" in the season-ending meeting... Best of luck to him...

As for Zimmer... while his players do seem to love him, based upon what I saw in a couple seasons of Hard Knocks, I had no interest in him as HC.

  • Saw this "radioactive" post a few days ago. What does it say that 4 of the 6 guys interviewed have turned down the job? Said, "thanks, but no thanks." No one worth anything wants to work under this FO. Fuck it. Do we need a coach? Just let Banner and Lombardi call plays down themselves. They're obviously fucking geniuses so why not. Kelly played them like a fiddle last year and they ended up with their 6th choice just to fill the seat while they prepared a massive roster overhaul. Shitcanned that guy and now they are going to end up with a no-name 5th choice again because no one wants to work under them. Clusterfuck. Browns are the new Raiders, get used to it.

Sure, Manning will want to live in Cleveland after he retire-s,when he can sit on the beach in Tahiti drinking Pina Coladas, or get on any one of the network pregame shows- he's very well spoken. It's a nice dream Gip, I hope it happens, but probably not.

And this begs the question...do we do the unthinkable and root for Broncos to win the SB? 🙂

  • The Berea triumvirate has had over two weeks to come up with the coach that saved Cleveland with seemingly little notable progress. They've had their share of potential come in

for a visit but find out in the end the prospect was there to touch up on his interview skills for a job with a bona fide NFL franchise. Oh, wait, the Browns are waiting for the

playoffs and Super Bowl to be completed so they can bring in the NFL rock star coaches. that's gotta be it. Sadly, we the fans will settle for another schlep who can dazzle

them in the interview with his understanding of the game and what it take to win but hasn't a clue on how to be a leader of men and a motivator.......getiing the maximum from

every player, on every play, in every fuckin game.

Bring in the sweater dude and forget about these young NFL wannabe coaches who think they can bring the glory back to Cleveland. Tressel knows what the Browns mean to

northwestern Ohio unlike the list of carpetbaggin motherfuckers who have been coming in for the big payday only to leave the team no better off that it has been the last 15 years.

Can he motivate and coach professionals? That's the million dollar question. He certainly has had success in the amateur ranks. His fatal flaw was merely trying to protect his

    players from prying eyes.

Or perhaps a big trade for Eli?

The talent pool he had to work with at Ohio State is what made him look good. When it came to big championship games more often than not he did not have his teams ready. His offense is also way to fucking conservative. I might actually throw up in my mouth a little if they bring him in. I would vastly prefer Melzahn or even Gase.

Manning is not Donkey Teeth who cost the Browns three trips to the Big Dance. That was 20+ years ago, though as one poster has in his tag line- Karliss missed- and I believe that to be true.

Hard to say if Manning would retire, or come back for another year should the Donkeys lose the SB- they have to get there first, which isn't a given.

Obvious the Stooges want a young and upcoming coach- though I'm not nearly as hard on Tressell as you are. Jim is on the high side of 60, so he's not in the Browns plans.

LOL... this immediately came to mind...

Jimmy Haslam: [to Mike Lombardi at the football practice] I had another idea. I think we should have some plays. You know, usually in football you have some organized plays...

Mike Lombardi: If you don't mind, I took the liberty.

    Jimmy Haslam: Oh, you have...

Mike Lombardi : I drew up about seven or eight plays. I figure that's about all this bunch can handle.

Jimmy Haslam: Oh, these are good. These are very good. Uh, what are these little arrows?

Yep, and a relatively unknown guitarist who goes by the name of Jimmy Page.

Sorry, no relevant comments about the Browns. This is about as low as I've been

on the team since Modell moved to Baltiwhore. I have absolutely nothing good to

say about the team or FO. 2014 has been flushed down the crapper and I honestly

don't see anything to be hopeful about for the near future.

Nearly 30. And horse face is still part of Denver, as an exec.

I was joking, and that was my point in rooting for Denver to make a run and win the SB. Then Manning would more likely retire and come work in Cleveland. (If they lose I think he'll stay and give it another shot.)

As much as I don't like Broncos or 49ers, I'd be happy for Manning or Phil Dawson should one win the SB.
