FA's worth a look?

Except Haden isnt a free agent...he can take Chris Owens with him...Pettine was there for one season. Byrd has been there since 09. He made it to two Pro Bowls without Pettine.
It's not like Byrd is a Pettine guy or something.
That would be like Tennessee fans saying "Horton should bring Joe Haden with him"

Okay, TJ Ward. Better?
Point is, Byrd is about as loyal to Pettine as Haslam is to coaches.

Pass on James Jones. At 30 is an older version of Greg Little, many drops in his career.
I am not suggesting James Jones is a number one but comparing his drop issues to Greg Little is absurd. He has had issues with drops from time to time but overall he is vastly superior to Little and a good big redzone target.I certainly would still draft a top talent WR or even still chase Decker.
I like Decker and wouldnt mind paying to get him, I just wonder what a Manningless Decker produces.

Drops are drops comparing Jones to Little isn't absurd. To bring in a 30 year old receiver is absurd when your able to bring in younger guys who can hang on to the ball.

Im confused as to why some people are worried about money. We have so much cap space, from my understanding its hovering around 24 mil. If anyone can provide a large contract its us. Decker is worth the money. I want a proven wr that is strong and tall. Also, we need to take the pressure off of Gordon.

Decker looks pretty good with Manning tossin him the rock, doesnt he? Id rather have a quick shifty reciever to go beside Gordon myself. A Randall Cobb type. I think we should throw money at DBs or OLine help. Plenty of recievers available for cheaper, or in the draft that would improve our #2 reciever.Im confused as to why some people are worried about money. Money is kinda a concern because we'll need to resign ward/mack and have Cameron/Haden next year.Im confused as to why some people are worried about money. We definitely should consider going after a big name FA though, but it will require overpaying.

Yes, he does look great! Though, I believe his numbers aren't inflated and he is a true talent. Who do you want in the draft that meets your wr qualifications: watkins, evans, robinson?

Well I wouldn't rule out an Evans or Robinson if theyre available at 26. Rather use a 2nd or 3rd on a Abberderis, Beckham. Ill know more after the combine, but I dont think we should spend big money or draft picks on a WR seeing how we have a top 5 guy already. Id rather have another TE than spending big on Decker or Watkins. My bet is Decker stays put and they let Welker walk anyways.

I need to hear what we plan on doing with the defense before I make opinions on FA's. If we stay in the 3-4 I would absolutely suggest targeting Orakpo. If someone would take Krugers contract off our hands that would work out well. If we go to the 4-3 than that Cincy guy might not be a bad idea.

I think we'll be doing a little bit of both, and the way Krugers contract is set up, we can release him for almost nothing. Orakpo would be way more expensive than Kruger, but hes also way better. No way he gets out of Washington imo.I need to hear what we plan on doing with the defense before I make opinions on FA's. If we stay in the 3-4 I would absolutely suggest targeting Orakpo. As of October 2013 ( I will find complete season stats as well)
Number format is catches, drops, catchable , drop rate
Top 10 WR for least amount of drops / lowest drop rate with at least 20 passes
1 Larry Fitzgerald ARZ 36 0 36 0
2 Torrey Smith BAL 31 0 31 0
3 DeAndre Hopkins HST 28 0 28 0
4 Vincent Brown SD 26 0 26 0
5 Marvin Jones CIN 24 0 24 0
6 Doug Baldwin SEA 23 0 23 0
7 Rod Streater OAK 23 0 23 0
8 James Jones GB 20 0 20 0
9 Antonio Brown PIT 56 1 57 1.75
10 Andre Johnson HST 48 1 49 2.04
Worst Receivers with at least 20 attempts
1 Davone Bess CLV 28 9 37 24.32
2 Aaron Dobson NE 26 8 34 23.53
3 Santana Moss WAS 19 5 24 20.83
4 Ace Sanders JAX 16 4 20 20.00
5 Greg Little CLV 21 5 26 19.23
6 Mike Wallace MIA 30 7 37 18.92
7 Darrius Heyward-Bey IND 18 4 22 18.18
8 Rueben Randle NYG 23 5 28 17.86
9 Danny Amendola NE 19 4 23 17.39
10 Kris Durham DET 25 5 30 16.67
Now I know dropped passes are simply one of many stats but you build your whole case on that and age. Yep hes 30 but it doesn't hurt to have a veteran in the core to help the young guys. AGAIN I am not saying he is going to be a TD God, simply a good value pick up for a year or two IMO.

Why wouldn't we be aiming for Decker?
Screw this "price too high, he won't come here" bullshit. You put the best players you can on the field. Throw him a large contract, fuck it.
We're going to have to overpay for any FA, might as well target the best available.
I agree. In almost all cases, FA sign where the money is and not the location. Plus, what's overpaying? I don't think you overpay if the guy you get comes in and gets it done.

So what if you overpay (Kruger) and he doesn't get it done? Welcome to Cap Hell.
Put a number on Decker, and see if we're going to have to overpay. Care to bet he's going to want Mike Wallace money?

Part of the "drops" stat can be laid on the qb. I'm not defending Little & Bess in the least- but Manning almost always puts the ball on target- how many times have we seen Wee-done toss balls that wrs have to make an incredible effort to catch, and not be able to do so?

Rumor has it, Andre Johnson is available.

They may have a lot of cap space, but they still have to worry about money. Having that money...you want to put it to good use, not piss it away with bad decisions.
I, for one, have no confidence in Mike Lombardi to not make poor personell decisions. So you have that factor to worry about.
-
I'm agreed that there is no point in pissing away cap space. No point in going all Dan Snyder or Al Davis. That being said, the Browns are almost always too conservative with money, which is why almost every off-season we're talking about how much cap space there is, but the team never gets better. It's only better to have it if, at some point, you spend it productively. If you just hold onto it year after year after year, in a practical sense, you're just playing with a lower salary cap than everyone else.
-
Decker would be a fantastic purchase, ha. Gordon in my opinion is the best in the league 14 games with that amount of production is amazing. This guy is a manimal, but with regard to the other wideouts on the browns, Gordon's play is polar opposite. I want a balanced field and Decker will give us that equilibrium.

These are the guys I want, but could easily see them only going after one middle-to-top tier FA and doing the rest in the draft.
Riley Cooper WR, should come cheap, good player. Much better Cooper than the one currently on roster.
Jon Asomoah OG, spend some cash, get a stud interior lineman. Lauvao has always been trash, not sure where Greco will play next year.... C or G? Depends on Macks future. Either way, if they don't get him, draft multiple guards.
Ben Tate RB, at the right price. If not draft two RBs.
Alterraun Verner would be amazing at CB. Not sure they want to invest a lot of cash in a CB, but he's the guy to spend it on if they want. See them drafting one instead.
That's it.
Cooper and Asomoah would be good grabs, IMO.

I can get behind this one for sure. I would like to see the addition of Jarius Byrd though. Add him and we have the best secondary in football, upgrade OL and stud RB
