  • Oh, and this:

If you were hospitalized for depression over a personal tragedy, say.........

and later you were fine and were released....you still think the same should

apply to the right to vote and 2nd Amendment rights?

  • "Can't believe they gonna allow dem Koons to vote" - Cal 1965

  • Well Kos, it certainly has had a negative impact on the country..... (by the way you aren't equating Negros with felons are you?)

Just fucking with you there but that was a good point. Do you lose your 2nd Amendment rights when you are convicted of a violent crime or institutionalized with schizophrenia?

It is most certainly a gray area but one would think that a serious infraction of law should carry consequences.

  • Even after release from prison, you are still a convicted felon. States have different laws in regards to reestablishing voting rights. Length of time after release, etc.

That was sort of the tongue and cheek joke. If anyone believes race is not an issue here they are full of shit.

Felon's come in all shapes and sizes. 3 DUI's a felony. In Texas you can get a felony for owning more than six dildos. In Steinemannboro County, Georgia, it's a Class B felony to kill a mosquito within 450 feet of a church without a good reason. In Montana it is a felony for a wife to open her husband's mail. Violent, maybe, but there definitely needs guidelines.

  • I think it should be a case by case basis. I also feel that way around the 2nd Amendment. Non violent felon? They should have just as much right to self defense as anyone else. They did their time. They should also be able to vote. They are just as uninformed as the other 99% of people who vote.

  • With all of these examples of groups that shouldn't vote, how about we add the elderly? Dimensia and other mental issues become a problem. Also, they have no motive to vote for the future good. Finally, they may not know what is going on in the world or country at the time. Not to mention they can be very gullible.

  • Good point Woodrow. So I guess no more voting privileges for you.

    WSS

  • I'm voting for FDR in the next election.

  • Which of those descriptions do I fit exactly?

Like I have said many times, I want to add an aptitude test to the voting process

A better question would be which of these groups don't you fit in? You may claim that you are not elderly but thats relative isn't it? For example in dog years we can assume you'd be among the most elderly of that group. And since that group is canines probably also equal to or below average as far as political and experience based acumen.

    😁

  • Woody's an oldpersonphobe.

  • I am not afraid of old people....

I was also being serious. If we limit the voting rights of people who committed crimes and those with some mental illness, then why not extend that to the elderly? Since it encompasses a lot of the same concerns. I mean, we always hear on here how the liberals are catering to this group and catering to that group, how about conservatives and the elderly?

"How dare you suggest that old people are in the same category as the elderly? They are the greatest generation. You some kind of Obamao/Hitlery lover?!"

  • then why not extend that to the elderly? woody

    *****************************************************

Yep, this coming from the little whiny know-nothing boy? who

    doesn't like labels.

woody - "all senior citizens have mental infirmities"

    good grief.

  • I did not say that. And if you want to try to extend it to the youth go ahead. Every group will mostly vote in their own self interest. All groups lack in some area when it comes to voting competency.

But again, why let the very elderly vote but not someone that did time in jail?

  • You want to vote? Enlist for 2 years (min).

You can also then drink a beer at 18.

  • No problem Woodrow. As a matter of fact a literacy test, a drug test and proof of employment would be good things to require before handing someone a ballot.

Ha ha ha. So you are comparing the 'elderly' to someone who is a convicted felon. Nice one! How about an elderly convicted felon? I can still see on good days. Sometimes I hallucinate but not usually.
