Derek Carr
-
We've all heard about Johnny Football, Bridgewater and Bortles. They are the supposed top 3 QBs coming out this up coming draft, right? Wrong. By far, the most polished, the best accurate, the strongest arm comes by way of Fresno States Derek Carr.
In the above video you can watch him deliver nearly every type of pass you can think of. His passes have good velocity and the placement is nearly perfect. On top of that you can see him make great throws from different positions. On one play he chucks it out while being tackled and the ball ends up in the perfect spot, in the Endzone where only the wide receiver can catch it. Another one, he double pumps it and heaves it 60 yards down field with the flick of a wrist.
He has the pocket presence of a franchise QB. He's not just a QB, he's a commander on the field. He demands attention and respect from the other 10 guys and they give it to him because he deserves it. They see him put in the work and know that he's a guy that is worthy to follow.
He can run well for a QB. He's even somewhat elusive. He's a larger guy at 6'3 but He's able to escape the rush and make plays with his feet as well. He's a competitor and a student of the game, always trying to get better.
His detractors will say he threw for 5083 yard, 50 TDs to just 8 Ints. by way of screen passes and a favorable offense. Well, yes, he can throw the screen pass extremely well, that's probably why they do it. That, and the fact that defenses have to respect his very accurate deep ball- so naturally they play off quite a bit allowing the screen room to work effectively. But, in the video above you will see plenty of down the field throws.
His maturity also is something that puts him above the front runners at the QB spot. As you'll see in the video below, he's humble and says that he's had amazing wide receivers to work with. Where Mr. Football is all about ME, Carr is all about WE.
The very best thing Cleveland could do is draft Derek Carr and don't look back. Chance are, should it all play out well, and Carr's stock not skyrocket to much during the up coming combine, he'll be there for the taking at #4 overall. Cleveland should select Carr and leave nothing to chance. The Vikings would love for him to be there when they get on the clock... we shouldn't give them the chance.
Take Derek Carr and add another franchise piece with the 26th pick and Cleveland will turn their fortunes around very swiftly.

STFU dumb ass

Not a big Carr fan, but he could be a good developmental guy.
He does struggle under pressure, and his accuracy waivers some.
-
Yea Carr scares me to. I see where you are coming from POG but I am afraid he has the potential to be Weeden 2.0 as well. The knock on Weeden by a lot of scouts was his inability to handle a muddy pocket. Seems to be the same knock on Carr and that scares the hell out of me as a pick at #4 or even #26.

Game.
Totally exposed and looked terrible.
Put up big numbers against bad teams. Pass.
He can't handle pressure for shit.
isn't that the manziel reel? or the troy smith reel? or the terrelle pryor reel?
wow. someone is getting paid to edit this shit. i should send them my biz card cuz i'd make them all look better than that shit. maybe throw a blonde in a bikini in da hot tub puffin on a blunt while we all sandal dance to some bob marley tune.......yeah, i can see it now. get a couple of little hookers like walterwhite and jeffinwv and we'd have some booty butt dancin.
or as they like to call it twjerkin it.

I'd be fine with Carr.
It's really not enough reason to hate a player just because poetic G likes him.
If that's all it took you might as well pull for the kid just to piss off WalterWhite.

Carr will be there when we pick in the 30's. Absolutely no need to take him at 4. I would be happy if we took Watkins, Tre Mason then Carr.
-
Carr looked like a monster against chumps. USC was not that amazing this year and Carr looked awful against them.
-
He is 4th in a 4 man race.

He is 4th in a 4 man race.
He is 4th in a 4 man race.
A 3 man race, honestly.

Who gives a flying fuck whether we get Carr, Manziel, Bortles, Bridgewater, McCarron, Garropolo, Capacola, Linguini, Art Garfunkel, Benny Friedman, Fritz Pollard or Pee Wee Fucking Herman......
....as long as we get a motherfucking quarterback that can play and can win. We have been through 20 starting QBs since 1999 and not a goddamn one of them has been worth a shit hardly (except for DA for about a half a year).

I agree Gipper, it wouldn't matter who we draft as long as we get it right this time. But, there is the big problem. The Browns have consistently brought in the WRONG FA QB, drafted the wrong QB, and picked up the wrong QBs off the streets. We could have selected, any of the QBs in our division, although I wouldn't want Dalton...
The thing is picking the right one for us and sticking to him.
Out of the QBs coming out, who would be the leader of this team, somebody you would follow? I know many would say, as long as we win they would follow him. yes, to a point. But what if winning doesn't come right away? Who is somebody that would weather the losses and keep improving and keep motivating their team to keep going?
I see Bridgewater and Manziel self destructing. I don't think they would handle the Cleveland curse well. I think they would explode or grow complacent, much like Weeden did. "Oh, there is nothing more I can do, we're just going to lose anyways..." blah, blah, blah...
I think Carr elevates those around him and that is why I'm going with Carr over the others.
-
Of course this discussion is never ending but I will repeat myself. I don't think the key problem of the Cleveland Browns has been the position of quarterback since we returned to the league.
Has there been one quarterback who has played in a consistent situation for 2 or more years? I don't think so. How many different offensive schemes how many different coaches offensive coordinators, general managers or even, owners for that matter, have been in and out of Northeast Ohio?

You are just using my post to serve as another opportunity to get a boner over Carr.......I don't care about Carr.....unless he comes here. I don't prefer him over anyone else. So get your jizzbone out of my face.
Isn't this like the 3rd or 4th thread on Carr that you have started. If and when he is drafted by the Browns that is the only time I will give a shit about him.
Why push us for your paramour. My name is NOT Ray Farmer. He will decide who to pick at QB....if anyone.

That certainly has something to do with it. I would counter with: How many Cleveland QBs have gone elsewhere and found success?
Len Dawson for sure. No one else....unless you count Bernie getting a SB ring with the Cowboys as a backup.

I'm a big fan of his WR Davante Adams.

The only player worth getting from Fresno is Davante. I think he can be a stud, personally.

Yes.

Seriously Gipper? Seriously? Fucking WOW!
Actually, this is the only Derek Carr thread that I started. I started a poll thread asking who everyone would like at the top of the first...and I gave my opinion. I also started a thread about the Browns taking several QB to finally move past all the QB carousel BS. But, to say that I've started several threads on Derek Carr specifically is just false.
Actually, you are the one who got me interested in Derek Carr in the first place. Yeah, thanks for that. I think it was sometime in December.. actually let me check... ah, here it is.

I may not mind if they took him with their first first rounder... I think it was jrb who started a thread asking what is wrong with Derek Carr? This is about the time I started researching potential college draft prospects. I looked into Carr because of 'your' endorsement... now, to turn around and attack me about it is a low blow.

I'm surprised he lost his starting job then....
But seriously even he was never considered a starting quarterback after his time with the Browns. Usually the starter on a bad team is looked on as a failure and never get the opportunity to start again. Those are the breaks. I'll give you another example since you seem to believe it's all about the quarterback. Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl.
It's speculation of course but just due to the simple idea that every quarter back we've ever had has been considered a winner at a high level at one time then I would assume that they would have had more success had they been placed at the helm of a good team.
