Hate The Thought Of Trading Up

If this matches their board you can trade down to at least 10 , grab an extra 1st round pick and still get one of your guys. I am close to 100% certain one of these QB's is available still at 10.
I wouldn't be so certain. Bridgewater will go top 5, most likely, Manziel not far behind. If you look at all the QB needy teams - Cleveland, Jacksonville, Houston, Oakland, Minnesota - one of them is likely to take a punt on Bortles. Maybe even the Texans, having Schaub mentor him?

You could be right Chris. I still however think that the QB's are going to slide more than people think at this point. Honestly if the FO isnt in love with one of the top 3 QB's the trade down would still be awesome. We would have two 1's two 2's two 3's and 2'4s. That could easily tranlate to 3 picks in the 1st round. To me that is very attractive in one of the deepest drafts in years.

You need to be aware of your Angleisms here. When we say someone is going to punt on someone it means give up on them....get rid of them. From giving up the ball to the other team by punting it to them.
I suspect you meant what we would say as "take a bet" on Bortles...or "take a flyer" on him. Punting is a British term for betting that we don't use.

Sure. Yes, I mean take a flyer.

All I'm saying IF that scenario played out and we finally landed a true franchise QB, I wouldn't be upset about it. I know it's a lot, a QB will be there at the 4th pick, yada yada. But if Manziel/Bridgewater/Bortles becomes elite, the picks we 'lost' wouldn't mean nearly as much. Personally I'm against it because it fails more often than it works, but just throwing that up there.

IMO if we hit on a QB its worth every pick we have....
You are probably right if we hit on an instantly elite quarterback. You have to bold , capitalize and underline the word IF though. It has been our intention multiple times but didn't happen. Even with the most in depth scouting there is still a huge luck and unknown factor to translate them to the NFL.
If you trade a lot of top tier picks and get it wrong it sets you back years.

I guess I meant finding a QB is invaluable. You cant lut a price on it. Looking at plain ol luck and numbers, a QB in the top 10 has like a 35% chance of being a good QB, it drops to like 2 or 3% in the second round. Yeah lets keep waiting for value....You are probably right if we hit on an instantly elite quarterback. You have to bold , capitalize and underline the word IF though. That being said, do the numbers change that dramatically from pick 1 to pick 3-5?

Just watched a clip on NFL.com about the Browns giving away picks to Houston to grab a QB .....WTF stay where we are .....Texans are grabbing Clowney, Rams are going O Line, Jags will take 1 of the QBs we take one of the others .....on NFL network they want The Browns to give up 4, 26 and 35 to move up to the number 1 spot .....Fuck that .....lets hope we now have sense in the FO ....we just got rid of the buffoons

Exactly- none of the qbs in this draft have ever been touted as "can't miss" Andrew Luck level talent- it would be foolhardy to trade that much away on a risky proposition. Sit at #4 and take the best available. We are guaranteed a stud there, and give away nothing.

If anyone was Houston would almost certainly keep that #1 pick.

If there was a cant miss talent, there would never be an opourtunity to trade up, and if for some reason there was, you would complain about the price. The Colts traded 3-4 years of Peyton Manning for Luck.Exactly- none of the qbs in this draft have ever been touted as "can't miss" Andrew Luck level talent- it would be foolhardy to trade that much away on a risky proposition. I just hate the thought of all this draft speculation for the next 43 days, its crazy.
I still say stand pat, no trades and we'll be fine.
-
trade down. this draft is so deep you can rake in talent at any position. adding another pick gives us the opportunity to move back into the teens in the first round.
pick 7th and 15th. what's wrong with that?

I'd take 7th and 15th over 4 and 26, I don't think that much 1st round movement will happen though. I'd love to get Evans & Dennard as you've been suggesting.
We could probably trade down to 8 if a QB the vikings want is there. I think we have to get above #15 if we want Dennard since I have a feeling Pitt may want him there.
If we get the right deal and swap picks later or maybe move up a round next year I wouldn't be opposed to moving down to #8 or so.

Would anyone give up, say, next years 1st and our extra third to swap both our firsts for both Rams firsts?

a team like the Browns should "never" deal their 1st pick cause it's perennially in the top 5. That being said, that's precisely why someone might give us something good for it. Lols. That's the requisite.....it has to be something really good for us to deal our first pick in any draft.

I would say that would be amazing if they could pull it off. If we do bad enough to pick top 5 again next year, we deserve not to have a 1st round pick....like some kind of excessive waste penalty haha.a team like the Browns should "never" deal their 1st pick cause it's perennially in the top 5.
