Not scared of a bust, but I also don't want to see our FO take a chance on a guy that most likely won't work out. I am not too worried about that happening with this years top 3 QB's or even Carr for that matter. Honestly really like the top 5 QB's in this draft. But there have been drafts where QB needy teams have just jumped on band wagon guys just to take a 1st round QB (AKA Titans and Jaguars) but this year it shouldn't be an issue of taking a risk on a late draft riser, but rather taking the normal risk on a top QB selection.

Teams reach for QBs because if they dont, someone else will and theyd have to go farther down their list and get a lower rated guy. The risk is worth it because while the risk is high, the reward is priceless.

Exactly- none of the qbs in this draft have ever been touted as "can't miss" Andrew Luck level talent- it would be foolhardy to trade that much away on a risky proposition. Sit at #4 and take the best available. We are guaranteed a stud there, and give away nothing.

If there was a cant miss talent, there would never be an opourtunity to trade up, and if for some reason there was, you would complain about the price. The Colts traded 3-4 years of Peyton Manning for Luck.

Yeah, like losing the Super Bowl with Manning- get your facts straight.

OK, you're on- go look up where a team gave up multiple first round picks to get a qb, and came out on the winning side. I'm betting I'm going to hear crickets chirping.

I think if Mariota was in this draft he may be a top 3 prospect. He definitely has flaws though

With that said, we definitely can't rely on Mariota next year. We need to worry about this year. Can't predict how the cards will fall with him and base our future on it.

Also, Mariota plays in a bit of a different offense than what he'd be playing here.

I really dont understand why any fan of this team would not want a QB. Are we really that scared of a bust? Think we'd be numb to it by now.

I'm not- for a couple of reasons- #1 being I'm running out of years real quick. #2 I don't buy into qb hype anymore. #3 If you bust on a top five prospect it doesn't set you back just one year, it sets you back a couple- like Sanchez with the Jets, Harrington with the Lions, Lordy, Wee-done got more chances than he deserved, just based on his draft status.

So if you like high risk factors, go bet $100k on the Browns winning the Super Bowl in 2015. Duh- like pay attention- often times that lower rated guy turns out to be the better option.

The bust factor is another three seasons in the dumpster. Care to be a Redskins fan right now and see your #2 overall go to the Rams, when you have serious holes that need fixing?

  • Well if we just play the percentages it would be a good idea to trade both our first our 2nd and 3rd for the top spot. Then just pick anybody. Because the first guy taken has a better chance no?

    😉

Off the top of my head, Eli manning was basically traded for multiple first round picks. Perhaps he's not as good as his brother, Brady or Rodgers, but he still has two superbowl rings. I bet you the giants aren't regretting the trade.

Losing the Super Bowl? I really was using that as a guage for what the Colts gave up when they drafted Luck. And teams trading up for QBs doesnt happen very often, generally because the teams in front also need a QB. Elway, Manning and RGIII are the only ones who come to mind.

I disagree that busting on a QB sets you back any more than busting on any other position. It used to, when the teams and players you mentioned, were signed to those crazy contracts. Not upgrading at QB will set us back as much as missing on a guy at 4. I am not advocating a trade up, but im also not dismissing the idea. Duh the lower rated guys turn out to be the better prospects huh....hahaha. You can look up those numbers and get back to me. I wouldnt bet 100K on the Browns winning the Super Bowl if we had Peyton Manning.

and you would lose (unless you took the spread which would prob be cleve as a 2 touchdown underdog).

I dont understand it either, they must love sucking and having this discussion every year. Lets wait until next year they say, better prospects then, well that means another year of sucking in order to have a chance to grab that guy. Heck I wouldnt be adverse to some creative trading where we trade some mid round picks this and high picks next yr to have 3 1st round picks in this draft including 2 in the top 4, getting a QB, Watkins and maybe some O-line help at 26.

    Pretty much this.

  • You know what I hate the thought of? The Browns addressing their QB problem the same way they have for the last 10 years. Ironically, the same way many of you are advocating.

  • I WOULD BE SOOO EFF'N PISSED OFF IF THEY BLOW THE ENTIRE DRAFT TO MOVE UP 1 or 2 SPOTS!

This draft is deep with a lot of solid players in the middle to late first round. IF ANYTHING, i would TRADE DOWN to grab a few more play makers and defensive players or even another few first rounders next season. I like next season's QB coming out.

    same here.

to all the people that say "wah! i don't understand the people that don't want a QB wah! wah with our first pick wah!!

doesn't it make sense to have the team QB-ready when we do throw all of our chips on the table? this team is no where near that. our right side of the OL is like running through (for defenders) open barn doors. we don't have a #2 corner, we need another safety, another ILB, we need a RB and a big time WR. so that's 5 holes that need to be filled with NFL ready guys. so maybe we use more than half of the other picks to draft up in certain situations.

giving the ball right now to any of these guys will end up with them being the next tim couch (even though we DO have a LT now).

BUILD THE TEAM!! hand the reigns over to the next pretty boy next year and have hoyer ride it out this year. who knows he might surprise everyone and there is NO reason that you just dismiss a guy because YOU want your boy toy.

will you all applaud when johnny gets plowed into the ground like couch did?

Again to make this claim you have to suck in the 2014 to have a real shot at any QBs next yr. So you are advocating that we lose and maybe blow things up again.

Every team has holes, the QB is the most important hole to fill, we also haev close to 50 million in cap space to address some of thoes holes prior to the draft.

not as many as seattle did when they drafted wilson, or san fran when they drafted kaep.

the only QB that got drafted recently to a shitty team was luck, but none of these guys could sniff his jock. RG3 hasn't won shit because the redskins are full of holes and got hurt the first year when he tried to be 'the running QB'. then they said you have to stay in the pocket and he sucked.

Luck didn't really get drafted to a crappy team - with manning they were playoff contenders, had to go with crappy QB play for a year and got beaten every week, then took Luck and became a playoff team again. I'd say RG3 got drafted to a worse team.

Yes but remember those situations too. San Fran has Alex Smith who was playing decently, they weren't in dire need of QB upgrade because they had a decent signal caller, Kaepernick was a good value pick for them. Same with Wilson, they had just signed a FA QB that everyone thought would be the starter and Wilson beat him out. We have Hoyer, who could be something or may not, he played 2 whole games for us, really tough to tell.

Right. The Colts did a purposeful dive just to get Luck. It was purely dishonest on their part, but the league allowed them to get away with it.
