Robinson shouldnt be counted on right away as a LT due to his technique needing some tinkering, but his agility is just fine, and the dude is by far the best OLman available.

His agility pales in comparison to Jake Mathews, who also happens to be NFL LT ready now. If you want to roll your high, #1 pick dice on a wunderkind with technique issues, then be my guest.

Well I dont want him at LT. I want him at LG. You want one of the nastiest run games in the league? Draft Robinson. By the time Thomas is ready to retire, Robinson can move over.
  • No OL with first pick. Total waste.

  • If we dont go QB, I love the Robinson pick. At 26, Im looking at Clinton Dix, Calvin Pryor, Dennard, or Gilbert over Shazier. I feel shoring up our secondary with another playmaker takes us farther than Shazier would, and wed find it easier getting the MLB2 on down the line. QB or WR would be the second round pick.

We are on the same page. I love Robinson at 4 as well. There is no way he starts as guard either. He is an immediate plug in at RT and Schwartz moves in to guard. He is also our future LT and if we can keep JT around it extends his career by moving him to the right side in a couple to three years.

Love to see a tier one CB at 26 but if not one of the top WR's would be good too.

I think this strategy also helps to rocket the production of Ben Tate and the RB we draft

  • "8. Minnesota: QB Derek Carr, Fresno State

Displaces Bridgewater as the No. 3 QB in the draft."

Someone needs to fuck-start Grossi's burp-hole for that ludicrous statement.

  • I hate this draft. We essentially could have drafted Watkins and Bridgewater then probably Yankey at 35 and shored up much of the offense but instead we take Robinson (which I wouldn't hate but I would be dissapointed) and then Shazier? Christian Jones is still on the board and probably will be in early round 3. I'm not sure what corners are there around 3rd but a draft of ...

    Watkins

    Bridgewater

    Yankey

    Christian Jones

    CB/BPA

    +

... looks a lot better than that fistful of shit.

  • Nobody drafts a RT that high in the draft, unless you're the Jacksonville Jaguars... and we don't want to be the Jacksonville Jaguars do we? Stupid... people just keep coming up with shit to be different than the last guy. I agree, this is getting old...

  • I don't see this weeks mock draft being something that even Grossi takes seriously. For this to happen, to take an OT with the 4th overall pick when our OL is far from what is killing our offense, we would have to trade Thomas for pick THIS YEAR. And if Thomas was traded, when he is in the prime of his career and the consensus best LT in the game of football, the fans would rage.

Now with regards to the Shazier pick, idk. You only take him if you think he can slide in to ILB which I don't think he is suited for. He would do decent in coverage and blitz well from the position, but he is going to get thrown out of holes and have to drag down RB. He is more suited to be a 4-3 OLB. Plus he is a major health concern. He has never really had a serious injury, but anyone who has watched OSU football knows that he is ALWAYS suffering from minor injuries, ones that normally knock him out for the final 1 or 2 quarters of a game. I think he is a mid 2nd round pick. There is zero reason for him to be taken in the 1st round by a 4-3 team, let along a team who will try to slide him in to a 3-4 ILB spot like we would.

Grossi's still bitter and maybe a bit senile. He just jumped on the " no qb worthy of 4" bandwagon.

I don't know about bitter, but there's no way I draft a OT, especially one you're penciling in to play RT at #4.You draft impact players there if you think there's no qb worthy of the #4. Mack, Clowney, or Watkins all would have a much higher impact on the Browns won-loss record this year than a RT. If they really want to upgrade Schwartz, you look to the second round - where most RTs get drafted.

Really- to take a page out of Ghoolie's book- how may high draft picks do you want to put on the o-line? Three firsts and a second?

So? Does this mean you will let Ghoolie back on? 😮

  • #4 will be either WR or QB. To even suggest otherwise is ridiculous and insanity. QB is by far the most important position on offense.

Yes, we need guards.. but the gap between a 4th round guard [Dozier from Furman] and Robinson is not as much as the gap between both [Watkins and Greg Drops-A-Lot] and [bortles/Manziel and Hoyer]

Yes, OL and QB are the key.. but this draft we need to replace too many positions.

We need QB/WR from our 2 picks in the first.. if QB at the 4, then we need one of the remaining WR's later. If Watkins at the 4, then Carr later. Then Hyde in the 2nd. I can see going G with one of the picks in the 3rd.. OK, fine... but not before.

  • Get over Hyde, thats not happening now.

  • Why? We don't have a NFL-caliber backup on the roster

  • I would love Robinson on this team. He and Clowney seem like the only two players who have potential to become the best at their position in the NFL.

Also with Thomas at LT and Robinson at RT (possibly LG, remember Cooper went 7 strictly as a guard) for the next four years would be amazing. Then he could take over at LT.

  • The argument that Robinson could take over at LT, if Joe Thomas, God forbid,

    got hurt...

is a good one. But to play at RT?

Can't beat the dramatic impact of a Khalil Mack or Watkins.

No absolutely not- at least in the foreseeable future. I occasionally e-mail him, and he's quite content to ignore the current state of the Browns. More interested in music and bowling. I don't subscribe to his fatass o-line theory, but in that much he's correct. The only team that ever pulled off the almost all 1st round OL stunt successfully was the Tennessee Titans when they made their Super Bowl run.

Almost totally agree- if we take Mack or Clowney @ #4, it won't upset me at all- they're the defensive equivalents of Watkins, though I worry about Clowney's motor. MHO is it's almost a forgone conclusion the Texans will take Bortles- and no, the Browns aren't selling the ranch to move up to #1 to get him.

100% correctamundo. Tate is a Hyde clone- why would we need two of them? If we take a back in the second round give me Tre Mason.

No, no, and NOOOO!!! Robinson would be an utter luxury pick for a team that has way too many glaring holes. #2 WR, #2CB, ILB, QB OTF. The only reason you ever draft a OT at #4 is to play left tackle, not right tackle. We happen to have one of the best LTs in the business playing there now- Joe Thomas. Sammy Watkins would have 10X the immediate impact on the Browns offense than plugging in the best RT in the NFL ever would.

Great, draft a back up in round 4 or beyond. Like you said 'we have a lot of holes' and drafting a back up RB in the 2nd when we need a G and ILB and CB isn't smart.

  • Hey guys, first post here! I've chosen to just creep and read for a long time but figured I would start sharing my blog here since I just posted my Mock 1.0. I like Shazier quite a bit but would definitely see him at ILB. However, I think Robinson is overrated personally and think Matthews is actually better than him. Anyway check it out and see what you think! GO BROWNS. #SUPERBOWL 🙂

  • I think Yankey may well be there at #35... he's just a bit of a reach at 26.

On the other hand, if either Zach Martin or Xavier SuaFallaDowna is there at 26 nab 'em. Odds are not good that thet will be tho...

EDIT: and Grossi's Robinson/ Shazier idea is just stupid...

The thing is, if Yankey is the guy you want, then you take him because he won't be there the next go around. First, it wouldn't be such a reach it would be considered gross. Saying a guy would have been there 10 picks later is a bit foolish.

I had a baseball draft last night and drafted 3rd....that is great except you kind of get upside down on the way back...at one point after the 3rd round, it was like a punted a round and starting selecting the players I wanted a round early. The only point in that is that it is OK if the Browns select a guy who is rated at the top of round 2 and take him at the bottom of round 1.

I even go so far as to say if Grappolo is a target at the top of round three but we are sweating he might get taken at the bottom of round 2....seeing the importance of the position and we are convinced he is our guy, just pull the plug and take him at the top of round 2. I might not do that with other positions, but would with QB.

Remember when Reiff and DeCastro were both supposed to go in the top 15? They both ended up being available when the Browns chose to go with Weeden at 22.

Lets also not forget that we still have over a month and a half until draft day. You are spot on about Grossi's terrible mock draft though.

Farmer said (paraphrasing) all the work, second-guessing and consternation will be in getting the board in place. Once the big board is set they'll stick to it.

Agree... nothing obscene with drafting Yankey at 26... also nothing obscene with drafting someone else there at 26 and spending a 3rd rounder to move our #35 up a bit to take Yankey.

Also agree that the later the round, the broader the range is of acceptable pick(s) spent for any given player.

It all depends on your board and your estimate of other teams' intent... and the latter is what makes the draft so fascinating.

  • This weeks edition of Tony Grossi's mock draft (which annoyingly stops at #26) has the Browns picking up Greg Robinson at #4 (with brownsboard favorites Sammy Watkins and Khalil Mack still on the board).

At #26 he has them picking up Ryan Shazier (in previous installments he has mentioned him playing as an uber athletic inside linebacker).

    What does everyone think?

Is this the same Tony Grossi that Gave the Steelers an "F" draft grade for 2004, drafting Ben Roethlisberger and calling him the next Tim Couch.

Is this the same Tony Grossi that said the Steelers would be lucky to finish 3rd in the AFC North and were in decline, when they were AFC North Champions, AFC Champions and were a drive away from winning the Super Bowl?

Is this the same Tony Grossi who said the Steelers were in Decline because Dan Rooney was no longer around, taking the job of Ambassador to Ireland in 2009, when he turned over the running of the franchise to his son in 2002 --- a sportswriter who doesn't even know who the owners of the division opponents are?

Is this the same Tony Grossi who was fired and stripped of his Hall of Fame vote?

Go ahead and listen to him, he just tells you what you wish was true, despite the fact he is a misinformed idiot.
