I hate bumping the thread, but saw something from the PD JF really needs to work on.
"Despite the shaky Pro Day, Bridgewater still feels worthy of the No. 1 overall pick.
"The biggest reason I feel is I’m a servant leader,'' he said. "I’m someone who wants to make everyone else around me better people, better players with nothing in return. I’m not looking for any recognition or anything like that; I’m a team player, someone that’s willing to go the extra mile, willing to come in early and go the opposite way. Not go in that locker room and try to win guys over, but win guys over by going in that film room and that offensive room and learning the playbook right away; breaking down film, showing the guys that I understand what’s going on.''
If Manziel had this kind of attitude, I'd like him a hell of a lot more.

yeah, those were the questions zimmer aired publicly the other day.
is JF REALLY committed? or is it all just a show to add to his celebrity and get taken higher than he's worth.

My concerns with Johnny are not off the field or as a leader.
In that regard, I think he is a Bret Favre ... loves having fun, but the guys in the locker room will love him because he's "cool" and one of them.
Just wish he was a little taller, thicker and possessing of a rocket arm like Favre.

Maybe the Browns will take him just for the publicity factor. Like the Redskins when they took RGIII. All the networks wanted to talk about was RGIII, win or lose. Andrew Luck didn't get half the run as RG.
If the Browns took Manziel, they would certainly have the networks sniffing around all day and all night.

The Redskins took RG3 because he was the 2nd best player in the draft, behind only Luck- not because of publicity - teams do not base their draft decisions based on publicity - nothing - player, coach or Storyline will play better than the Cleveland Browns winning football games. If the Browns draft Manzel will it get them a Monday night football game? maybe...but that is hardly a reason any football team would use to draft a particular player. If the browns draft Manzel it will because they think he gives them the best chance to win.

I still like Teddy B the most out of the QB's - up until the ridiculous time between the last college football game and the draft Teddy was the consensus #1 QB for the last two years. He is the only QB of the big 3 that called his own plays in a pro style offense at the line... he has the best mechanics, footwork and he did not show any sign of breaking down under pressure... if the Browns go QB at 4 and TB is there- RUN TO THE PODIUM
-
So do I! I also think he can play EITHER ILB or OLB. To me, he's the slam dunk best player in this draft.
Mike
Pettine was quoted as saying he would not move Mack inside - I like Mack but if it comes down to clowney or mack - you have to go clowney- I would be happy with either.

the team that takes JF will have to live with the publicity factor- it's going to be RG III squared. -

Uh huh. Yea. Sure. Keep thinking Butch. In the end football is a business. Teams will do what they can do to make the most money. If they can't get money by winning, in the mean time, they will try to get the most attention for themselves that they can get.
The Dallas Cowboys make all their money on image at this point. They haven't been winners in 20 years.
So, image DOES count.

Image absolutely counts but to say that Farmer and company are sitting in a war room thinking "well we really think player X is a better player than player Y but player Y would sell more jerseys so lets draft him instead" is ridiculous...

But he wears a glove on his throwing hand, and reportedly looked pretty inaccurate in his pro day without it... Plus, it's a different football in size and shape. Small hand size is a problem in the pros especially when the weather changes in Nov-Dec... Can "the glove" get it done in Cleveland?? He did pretty well in college, so only time would tell.

He does wear a glove....and he did have a bad pro day -Does he have smaller hands than Johnny Manzel and Blake Bortles...yes.. I am not sure what the cut off is for having small hands is, but Teddy's are 9 1/4 inch hands
Gloves: if they help wear them if they take away - don't wear them... for everyone who says the greats don't need to there are examples like Kurt Warner, Brady, Manning even Big Ben who have worn them...
Hand size is the "prisoner of the moment" stat of the year: Hoyer has 9 1/2 inch hands,Colin Kapernick has 9 inches, Vick 8 1/2 inch..oh and Weeden had 9 3/5 inches, Couch 9 7/8 inches, Brees has 10'1 inch hands - the proving future success with past success/failures of other people can go either way.
My point of all this is to say that there are always examples of people who have done this or done that with these measurements/stats/preferences or those ...but what really matters IMO is when a QB can demonstrate on film that he can read a defense, make good decisions and can physically make the throws to win a game - IMO Teddy does those things better than anyone in the draft and it is not close.
Bortles is a measurement guy who wasn't asked to read defenses or call audibles (not saying he couldn't) - Manzel is a swag guy who was really exciting to watch especially in broken plays...but those broken plays were often the result of him not checking down or hitting the open receiver... Teddy is an offensive coordinator playing QB type of guy...in fact he called the majority of Lousiville's plays this year from the line... I'll take Teddy over Manzel/Bortles all day.

i think there isn't much of a difference with the CAPABILITIES of any of these top 3 guys. "one is pro ready." "one has escapability and other intangibles the other 2 don't" "one is the prototypical sized QB". they'll prob end up having the same mediocre careers due to one issue or another (durability, not being able to read defenses, or just plain not winning or as i like to call it, the weeden factor).
the question is are any of them worth the 4th pick? the fact is if you look at everything beside MOCKS these guys would be lucky to break the top 20 in player ratings. you could line up the 20 best players and they will either be defensive of WRs. it's only because there are so many teams that need a QB that these guys will be taken top ten (maybe). to judge any of these guys to the Luck/RG3 draft is unthinkable.

For me TB is worth the pick at #4, but I will say that is Clowney is available at 4 you take him no questions asked. You can draft a really solid starting CB WR ILB and G with other picks. TB is the only QB I would want the Browns to take at #4.

On his pro day Bridgewater shit the bed. He can blame it on his glove, no glove, hand lotion, it was cold, whatever, but he folded like a cheap umbrella under the pressure, no thanks. Manziel came in there and crushed it on his pro day, the kid smiled and looked like he was born to do it and was having fun. There is a guy like Bortles every year that looks the part and has all the measurables and rises up the draft boards, but he played for a small school in a shit conference and we are supposed to believe this guy is a franchise qb? Maybe, but it is a longshot, and he is so raw he is 2-3 years away.
I couldn't care less how many cheerleaders he banged or beers JF drank. I've watched a lot of games and the dude has the killer competitive fire with some special skills. Sure, I wish he was a couple inches taller too, but he isn't. IMO, he has the highest upside of the top three qb's.
We have to swing at a qb at 4, or higher this year. This year we are drafting at 4 with an extra #1 pick in our pocket. No more second level prospects later in the draft please. Enough Brady Quinn and Colt McCoys. Enough passing on top qb prospects to grab the shiny hood ornaments like Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow. Every pick is a risk. People had questions about Roethlisberger and Rogers at the time they were drafted too.
Yeah we got Hoyer. He looked the best of the garbage we had at qb last year. But he is coming off major knee reconstruction and has been cut by three teams and I'm supposed to believe this is the guy to take us to the super bowl. Do you think Farmer and Pettine are going to stake their careers on that? Good way to get fired, I don't know, maybe on the way home after the last game. That could never happen, right?
Guess what, if we bust on a qb at 4, we will be drafting in the same area next year and you take another one until you get it right. Look at how many qb's Seattle went through before Wilson, they just kept swinging at it until they got it right. We are never going to win till we have our guy at QB. I hope we get Johnny, it really could change everything. You have to take a chance at greatness. Or maybe you draft some offensive lineman and a reciever because JF was just too much of a risk and we can win 4-6 games again next year.
-
i think farmer has enough years of scouting under his belt to figure out who he wants to run pettine's system.
it's getting tired just talking and talking about who we should draft.
let it be over already. i trust they will make the right decision and i will root for every last one of our picks to become pro-bowlers.

Uh huh. Yea. Sure. Keep thinking Butch. In the end football is a business. Teams will do what they can do to make the most money. If they can't get money by winning, in the mean time, they will try to get the most attention for themselves that they can get.

So, image DOES count.
Image absolutely counts but to say that Farmer and company are sitting in a war room thinking "well we really think player X is a better player than player Y but player Y would sell more jerseys so lets draft him instead" is ridiculous...
Tim Tebow can not find a job in the NFL...case closed.

Farmer may not be saying it, but Jimmy Haslam....or Jimmy Haslam's wife whose career is publicity may be thinking that.
And yes, being a publicity hound can only take you so far.
Tebow is a good example though. He was taken far, far, far ahead of his talent for publicity sake.
He proves my point exactly.....and yours at the same time.

But with Johnny Football at QB, we could be getting those Mondy and Sunday night games without having to go through the trouble of being a winning team.
Sure, it would only last for so long if he can't play. See Tebow/Jamarcus Russell etc.
