The Browns Board

  • How about this.

    4. Evans

    26. Manziel

    35. Stanley Jean-Baptiste

    3rd. Jordan Tripp

After that we draft a G, FB, S and another QB like Mettenberger, Fales, or Murray.

Mack one hundred and ten percent. We can easily grab a no 2 receiver with our second first rounder or our second maybe even one of the third rounders considering how deep this wr class is. I can certainly see how enticing it would be to take Watkins but it doesn't make sense to me considering we would have to pay josh Gordon and Watkins big money. Too much money in one position.

Only problem Gunner- and Mike H has been harping on it- Mack's natural position is OLB- and the Browns are loaded there.

Yeah- Watkins might be overkill- but tell that to Atlanta who traded a boatload to the Browns to get Julio Jones, when they already had Roddy White. We give up nothing to do that. Watkins will be on a relatively cheap rookie contract for years too.

Or would you rather we wait until the second round and potentially wind up with another Mohammed Massivedrop, Slowbiski or our current Butterfingers Braylon wannabe Little? I wouldn't rule out the Browns going qb @ #4, which means they would pick a wr @ #26.

The Falcons are a great example and I thank you for bringing them up.

Even WITH a franchise QB, the Falcons haven't been able to make it to the Super Bowl with two strong WR's.

Jones is still on his rookie contract, but both he an Roddy White will be FA's next season and I don't see Atlanta being able to keep both. White is already commanding 7 mil a year and Jones 4, a modest number. New contracts will see each eating up at least 6 mill of cap in their first year, probably.

Further, there's just as much of a chance that Watkins busts. Just because he's proclaimed to be the next big WR doesn't mean he will be, as you should well know. Just as we could get a MoMass in round 2, we could also get an Alshon.

Kelvin Benjamin or Allen Robinson would be fantastic picks in the second. Both are large redzone targets, Benjamin at 6'5 has the body to box out defenders and could even be flexed in on 2TE Sets, while Robinson at 6'3 has 40 inches of vert and can literally catch balls thrown over the crossbar.

Robinson could have caught that ball Weeden rocketed into the stands against the Ravens.

This is a good breakdown with video. I don't care who did the breakdown, it's still good.

  • Pettine said he wouldn't move Mack to ILB, but he also said he doesn't see a particular need at ILB. He also said OLB is our deepest position group, but wouldn't rule out drafting Clowney or Mack... whatever the fu** that all means...

I wouldn't use the #4 pick on Mack. He's another undersized OLB who needs to put on weight and add strength to become an elite pass-rusher. If we go that direction, which I hope we don't, I see it being more realistically used on Clowney who seems more NFL-ready, but in all likelihood he'll be gone...

If the rumors are true about our interest in D.Jackson, it shows that the team wants to upgrade our WR2 spot significantly, but it also tells me we don't want to use our first pick to do so...

I wouldn't use the #4 pick on Watkins. As posted before, if he pans out we'll be paying $20+ million a year to keep him and Gordon around in a few years, and we still aren't sure we'd have a QB to get those guys the ball...

I think the #4 pick almost HAS to be a QB. We have picks #26 and #35 to add a WR and CB (which based on the rumors regarding Revis, I believe is another position we try and upgrade significantly). Why waste that early of a pick on your 5th OLB or your WR2? I'd rather have a guy who can get in there and at least compete to become our franchise QB - and I see 2 possibilities... Bortles or Bridgewater.

    Dream scenerio - #4 Bortles, #26 Benjamin/Robinson/Fuller., #35 Robinson/Matthews/Roberson

Nighmare scenerio - #1 Bortles, #2 Clowney, #3 Bridgewater... If we are in this position, I would try my damndest to trade out of our spot b/c we'd be reaching for anybody to fill a need at this point, and drafting BPA would leave us with the OP's question? Mack or Watkins... I say neither...

  • i think after his pro day everyone has clowney going first. i think the rams WILL take an OL (how many more hits can bradford take)? that leaves mack, bortles, bridgewater, manziel or watkins to be taken at 3. so erase one of those names. if we do take a QB i hope it IS bortles.

the nightmare scenario for me is if someone trades up in front of us and takes the guy farmer wants and leaves us with no trade down partner and he has to 'settle' for a guy.

  • We need a QB, #2WR, #2CB and an OG.

    @4 - Derek Carr(he will be a franchise QB)

@26 - Take Dennard or Gilbert if they fall, maybe even Pryor. If none are left go for the WR in Kelvin Benjamin or the OG in Yankey.

2nd Round - what about a Tre Mason or Carlos Hyde here?

3rd Round - take Stanley Jean-Baptise, a large CB capable of covering taller receivers.

Chris Borland could be a good ILB, maybe take a chance on him.

That would take care of QB, WR/OG, RB, CB and MLB. Then in the fourth we've gotta take one of those FBs coming out.

  • derek carr should be there @26 if we want him and no way do dennard or gilbert slip that far. we also don't need one of the top RBs in this draft after signing tate. we MIGHT draft one in one of the last 2 rounds.

  • Stanley Jean-Baptiste will not make it to the third round, mark it down.

  • You may actually be right about that second rounder brother! I was looking up some info on him and the guy is nearly 6'3 and has a 41 inch vertical. His speed is just good at 4.6 - 40. I would think that maybe he could be the next Ed Reed type player if moved to Free Safety. Ha! Imagine, Hitner and the Baptist putting the WRs to sleep...

I like Baptiste as a beast FS type player. Of course, Pettine said that the safeties in our new system are kinda different in that they aren't the typical FS/SS combo. I think a player with the Physicality of SJB and his insane vertical makes him ideal in covering the taller TEs and WRs that are around now.

I would think he'd be worth it in the second. We could always trade our extra third and a fourth rounder to move back into the second. We have a low third and then we have Pitts third rounder as well.

  • He'll likely be a solid CB as well, do you think that he could be a legit number 2 CB? If so then, moving him outside with Haden puts Skrine back in the slot...which I like.

  • He'll play corner I believe. Hes got that Richard Sherman size, but Sherman would be a lot less effective if he didnt have Earl Thomas behind him.

  • Dream scenario:

    #4- Blake Bortles-QB- UCF

    Obviously.

    #26- Kelvin Benjamin- WR- FSU

Huge. Red zone target. Wouldn't mind Allen Robinson instead. Could give us Marshall/Jeffery-esque tandem.

    #35- Marcus Roberson- CB- UF

Physical. Able to play on island. Solid speed and hip fluidity as well.

    #71-Christian Jones- ILB- FSU

Can play at any LB position. Solid talent.

    #83-Antonio Richardson- T- UT

Gives us bookend tackle. Free to move Schwartz inside. Also good insurance in case of Thomas injury, knock on wood.

    #106- Shayne Skov- ILB- Stanford

Potential to be poor man's Kuechly-esque ILB. Downhill tackler. Loud and physical.

    #127- Tajh Boyd- QB- Clemson

Good project QB. Faced solid teams, put up solid numbers, decent measurables.

    #145-Andre Williams-RB- Boston College

Could be a poor man's Marshawn Lynch. Physical, big, doesn't go down on first contact, sticks leg into ground and makes cuts. Good pile pusher at times.

Rounds 6-7: BPA by physicality/potential instead of by statistical performance.

I can dig this TCPO. Here is the thing with Bottles: he needs to sit a bare minimum 10 games if we draft him, unless he absolutely annihilates Hoyer in a QB competition (and even then we need to very slowly ease him into the system and gradually introduce new concepts and responsibilities). Bortles is raw but not nearly as raw as he is portrayed by the media and many analysts. He called audibles and kill plays at the LOS in college, has decent a decent understanding of reading defenses, and has played in personnel packages similiar to what you would see in the pros. That being said, he is the type of player that has such a fantastic ceiling and physical skill set that he could easily be sabotaged and ruined by forcing to much on his plate too early and too fast.

Kelvin Benjamin. Love him. He is a less polished Evans who needs to work on sveral things but could ultimately end up being just as good as Evans. I have faith that Farmer is going to make the right decisions. Here is to hoping that he gets the chance to take the players he wants for this team ans is not forced to settle in the early rounds.
