My post-draft 53-man roster prediction... (ridiculous)

The Browns Board

  • Assuming no Josh Gordon, here is my opening day depth chart... (btw I understand it is WAAAYYYYY to early to even think about doing this, but it's fun)

QB - Johnny Manziel / Brian Hoyer / Connor Shaw

WRS - Chandler Jones / Travis Benjamin

TE - Jordan Cameron / Jim Dray / MarQueis Gray

    LT - Joe Thomas

LG - John Greco / Garrett Gilkey

    C - Alex Mack

RG - Joel Bitonio / Paul McQuiston

RT - Mitchell Schwartz / Martin Wallace

RDE - Ahtyba Rubin / Armonty Bryant

NT - Phil Taylor / John Hughes / Ishmaa'ily Kitchen

LDE - Desmond Bryant / Billy Winn

ROLB - Paul Kruger / Barkevious Mingo

RILB - Karlos Dansby / Tank Carder

LILB - Christian Kirksey / Craig Robertson

LOLB - Jabaal Sheard / Quentin Groves

RCB - Joe Haden / Isaiah Trufant

LCB - Justin Gilbert / Leon McFadden

NCB - Buster Skrine / Pierre Desir

FS - Tashaun Gipson / Jamoris Slaughter

SS - Donte Whitner / Josh Aubrey

    LS - Christian Young

    K - Billy Cundiff

    P - Spencer Lanning

    Probably won't even be close...

  • Pierre Desir - not beating out McFadden or Trufant?

Ya got rid of Skrine and Desir for McFadden and Trufant?

Not with your pecking order at WR either.

But like you said ... way early.

  • Not gonna lie, seeing that WR corps kinda makes me shudder. Yikes.

Also, I'm pretty sure Hawkins is solely a slot guy. I guess you would need to move Burleson to WR1 (gross) and move Hawkins to the WRS.

  • I am big fan of West and Crowell. Man are we stacked with talent at tailback.

  • I know this is just your prediction.. but barring any major trades for WR or one of our guys being a diamond in the rough, our WR core is extremely sub-par. Well below average at best. Anyone who thinks otherwise is delusional.... how could Farmer think we are set at that position? haha! oh well

And yes, I know Gordon's suspension is still up in the air...

No. Refused to do that. Hawkins is our highest paid WR right now, so I say he plays outside... why not?

More or less, Desir vs. Skrine for starting Nickel corner. Probably looks confusing, but if I put them in order Skrine would be CB3 and Desir would be CB4

Not that he's our savior, but look up Charles Johnson and the story about Mike McCarthy's reaction to us signing him... At 6'2" 215, he ran the 40 at 4.38 during his pro-day in 2013. Was sideleined last year due to torn ACL, which is always concerning. I hope he gets healthy and has a chance to contribute.

Hawkins is only 5'7" - I think he struggles outside, but he might have to go there to start with, with Gordon out.

I think Skrine is the nickelback, and desir is first backup to Haden/Gilbert. Still not sure why you have Trufant in there?

Agree on Johnson, quietly excited about what he can do. And what about Josh Cooper? He has looked good every time I've seen him play.

couple minor adjustments fixed it up for ya
  • I understand the lack of WR talent there, but looking at the total picture - this is a way better team this year than last year....our D is stacked and even without Gordon we should be 8-8 this year...it's early and they have literally months to figure out one position of need vs the normal 4-5

    GO BROWNS!!

Updated... if Gordon is in the lineup. That starting lineup looks nasty...

What makes you think Farmer is set at that position? Did I miss his quote? It's May for Christsake! A lot can happen in the way of player acquisitions between now and September. Chill out dude.

  • Mark it. Mingo with 12+ sacks.

  • The Browns could only do so much, to get those guys they really wanted.

The guys who play football because they love the game, kickass, etc....

They just had some guys they really wanted, and the receivers they wanted

were taken early in those rounds.

I see it as - if they already had their current draftees on the roster, given the same roster,

of course they would be drafting wr's.

All this wr worry is nonsense. The Browns will resolve the situation. Several of those teams that drafted

wr's can't keep the cap-killing wr's on their roster. And there are trades to be made. Way too much

angst way too early. In Farmer and Pettine and co. I trust.

Just drafting a wr because you need to, gets you guys like Braylon Edwards,

    Massoquoi sp? and Robieski..sp? Nah.

  • Questions for the Browns Fans from a New Guy.

How well will the O line stack up against Clowney, Watt & Company Nov 16? Will they be able to give the QB (Hoyer or Manziel) time enough to find receivers?

Well Joe Thomas on the one side should be fine. Mitchell Schwartz on the other may have problems, but has been better in the second half of the season so may do OK.

  • WR1 - Nate Burleson / Travis Benjamin
    WR2 - Greg Little / Charles Johnson
WRS - Andrew Hawkins / Chandler Jones

Way too early to tell, and pending Gordon's situation.

Ya, that makes more sense. Still a lot of IFs.

I won't surprised if Travis Benjamin comes back 100% and is expected to start. Gilbert can return punts and Benji can become a full time offensive player. The other big IFS are Little (a permanent IF) and Johnson.

I think Burleson can get us 40-50 key grabs and Watkins can get us 70+ if they are both healthy. we just really need a playmaker that can take on the #1 corner of the other team ... Little has failed at that job in the past, Benji has a a very lean frame to be a #1 and Charles Johnson looks good on paper but was a 7th rounder who has absolutely no experience.

    Zombo

  • Zombo - Watkins? Hawkins?

  • It'll be interesting to watch some of these guys in pre-season to see what they can contribute:

    Charles Johnson

    Chandler Jones

    Willie Snead

    Jonathan Krause

    Kenny Shaw

    Conner Vernon

Great WRs come from all over the place, and like Farmer has said, sometimes they just need to be given a shot...

  • Zombo - Watkins? Hawkins?

    @gftchris said:

Yeah, Hawkins. Still a post-draft hangover.

Andre Johnson would be a nice one year fit at that #1.
