Would going to the memorial result in more wins come the 2014 season?
No, but wouldn't have had the negative publicity the Vegas trip did.
Starting QBs tend to be the face of the franchise. JFF aspires to be that, so, he would have been better served going to the veteran thing.
Having said that, he might have already made arrangements for the Vegas trip to hang out with some of his friends he hasn't seen in a while. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the Vegas Vacation, but the veteran thing would have been better.
Although nobody would have said a word had he went to the veterans thing, so no one would have known he went.

Publicity, negative or otherwise, means nothing on the field.
I don't care if Johnny Manziel (or Hoyer, or Thigpen, or whoever) anal blasts Joel Osteen on top of the St. Louis Arch while Mary Kay Cabot fingers herself.
I also don't care if he literally never leaves his house except to drive to games on Sunday.
Win.

Do you know Pettine that well to make those claims? I know he worked under Rex Ryan who is more of a players coach and not a disciplinarian. I don’t get the vibe that he is a hard ass. I also feel like your owner did some Jerry Jones type stuff. Talking too much with the media and i believe he influenced the Manziel pick. Firing a coaching staff after one season! That’s rough.
If they can get Manziel to tone it down, i think that would be a good thing but i don’t see it happening. Do the Browns sit Johnny down and talk to him about this past weekend?
Read up on Pettine.
"Practice like a Brown".
Completely changing the culture.

I think you're overstating it a bit, although I agree with the sentiment.
Publicity can affect things on the field, although publicity about a Vegas trip wouldn't.

No. It really can't.
It can affect how we place the blame on terrible performance.
Brady doesn't throw a pick, walk back to the sidelines and tell Belichick "sorry, coach, I was thinking about that bit of bad publicity."
If publicity surrounding an event affected a players performance, it's probably a significant enough event that said player would still be worried regardless.
For instance, if Manziel raped a girl. Even if the papers never found out, it would probably still weigh on his performance.

Never say never.
Publicity can motivate. You or your opponent.
Therefore, it can have an effect on play.

Hard to say. Him and Mike Evans were tight, but he was tight with Ryan Swope, a white receiver, his freshman year also. Jonathan Stewart, the former teammate he partied with in Vegas, was a linebacker. He hangs with Drake, whoever that is, and LeBron James.
If I had to guess I'd guess his best friend would be a black receiver. Maybe Gilbert?
If he was smart he would gravitate to the lineman we drafted, Brian Boitano or whatever, he's huge and everyone says he's mean as hell. and he'll be protecting him on Sundays for years to come.

Billy Winn. There's a photo of Winn with his arm around Manziels shoulders posing for a photo. Then on CBD Winn was on and talked very positively about JMs personality. In the end I suspect he will have many friends on the team. Gilbert and him flew to Cleveland on the same plane and they seem to have bonded, too. There is also talk of passing chemistry between him and the new receiver Armstrong.

There is no actual evidence that he influenced the pick other than maybe voicing that he likes Manziel. Let's think critically about that draft-room quote. Haslams words were "pull the trigger." When someone says that, it implies someone has already made a decision but not acted on it. Who made what decision? Farmer and Pettine decided they wanted to draft Manziel. All Haslam did was maybe encourage them to trade up to get him. He certainly didn't force the pick on them as the national media types would like everyone to believe.@everlastingxxx said:

I agree it's rough to fire a coaching staff after one season. Most Browns fans would also agree that Pettine/Farmer look a whole lot better right now than Lombardi/Banner/Chud. While the former are working together in unified fashion the latter were busy undermining each other last year. Haslam did the right thing and the season is going to bare that out.

Yes adjust. Adjust to being in the spotlight. Now you know what its like being a Cowboys fan. Everything being blown out of proportion by the media. Romo goes to Cabo and all hell breaks lose. You think Manziel is bad, try rooting for someone like Terrell Owens. I have been a Cowboys fan since the Danny White years. I have seen and been through it all as a fan. You think the Patriot game last year was bad, hell Cowboy fans experience that each week.
BTW, the worst you have to deal with is Johnny going to Vegas. Cowboys lost their best defensive player for the season on a non-contact drill.
No Cowboys fans blow everything out of proportion not the media. The reason being y'all believe it's your God given right for the Cowboys to win the Super Bowl every year. Is your owner responsible for fostering that belief? Of course, but y'all buy into it. I've spent enough time listening to your talk radio and it makes Steeler fans seem docile, if not civilized.
Don't get me wrong, I like the Cowboys as I became a football fan watching Emmitt and Irving tear up the NFL (Aikman is a pussy) and I'm a huge fan of Witten and especially Dez (he is a lot nicer in person than the media would lead you to believe, or at least he was in college.) However the doom and gloom the fanbase emanates is embarrassing, and this is coming from a Browns fan.
P.S the Lee injury is a shame. He's a hell of a player.

By voicing his opinions, he influenced the draft. Had Jerry Jones come out and told the homeless man story, he would have been roasted. I am not trying to defend Jones because he says plenty of stupid shit all the time.
I like the new coaches. I am a big fan of the Ryans and i think Shanny is innovative and a good fit for what they want to do with Manziel. That said, i thought the coaching staff did a decent job last year. Not bad enough to get fired after one season. A few bounces and they would have won more games. Had Hoyer stayed healthy maybe even a winning record.
Of course the owner is going to have the final say in trading up for a potential franchise QB. Influencing the pick is a different story though. I believe Haslem when he stated Farmer would have control over the roster. However, taking a polarizing QB prospect like Manziel would need the owner's seal of approval, especially in a trade up.
I'm with you on the firing of the coaching staff last year, offensively at least but the defense was a major disappointment. However a change in the FO, which was in the works before the firing of the coaching staff, more often then not results in a new coaching staff. I think we can all agree both the current and most previous regime are light years ahead of Shummur's incompetent ass.

I can't help but picture some little kid watching a game at Busch Stadium with his dad in the nosebleeds with binoculars.
"Dad what are those people doing on top of the Arch?"

The circle of Cowboy fans i know dont feel entitlement. It has been a long time since the Cowboys were a real contender. Of course you have your homer fans but i think most see it for what it is. A once proud franchise being held hostage by an ego driven owner motivated by ratings and money. Being mediocre is hard because nothing changes. At least when you hit rock bottom you can only go upwards...i think.
BTW, Aikman wasnt a pussy. That dude stood in the pocket and took shots that most QBs wouldnt get up from. Of course today he drives me nuts when he commentates, lol
Yea losing Lee is a huge blow. Cowboys top 3 defensive players are gone. D-Ware, Hatcher and now Lee on a defense that was 31st last year. If Romo gets hurt and Weeden has to start it could be an ugly season...sorry the doom and gloom lol!
Hahaha you're dead on with that last sentence.
As for Aikman, my Dad worked with a former Cowboys cheerleader who went on a date with Aikman during his heyday. They ended up back in Henryetta at his parents house, which is odd in and of itself, but I digress. He was a complete dick to his Mom while they were there and he ended up getting bitch slapped by his mom in front of a Dallas Cowboy cheerleader. That is why I view Aikman as a bitch.
As a QB he was good.

Cleveland is not going to become Manzieled. Manziel is going to become Clevelanded.@everlastingxxx said:

Just like when guys like Corey Dillon and Randy Moss went to New England they became good soldiers, that's the kind of ship Pettine will run. Johnny will fit in and excel.
You have a circus in Dallas because the guy in charge is a circus clown.
Manziel will do things the Browns way. Mike Pettine's way.

I don’t believe in the bible, but i always like the part where it says if you are doing something good, do it in private because if you do it openly you are looking for praise, which in itself is self-serving. Not saying those in the photo are. I am sure their morals are a million times better than Johnny the devil Manziel.
I think the reason many old Brown fans don’t like Manziel is because he is glitz and glam. I come from the Dallas Cowboys aka Americas Team, i love that stuff. Cleveland is gonna have to adjust.
Yup, we know JF has done a good deed or two while at A&M. He also has a rep as a Party Animal, which caused some teams to pass on him. His latest Vegas junket won't help him much in minimizing that rep. However, Cleveland is the anti- Dallas, and he's going to have a lot of oldsters (many who just happen to have Club Seats and Luxury Boxes at the Stadium) who won't like his act. If he continues as is- Cleveland fans will love Johnny the Football player (assuming he's all his Heisman legacy says he is)- but a sizable percentage won't care for Johnny the person much.

Johnny's publicity has already motivated several opposing NFL linebackers who want to be the first to send him to the sidelines.

I still dont get it.......? what did he do?
He partied like any other 21yr old on the planet, including me when I was that age. However I wasn't vying for one of only 32 jobs on the entire planet. JF is going to be scrutinized more than any other player that I can recall in any sport, and while not fair, it is the reality. He doesn't help himself posting about it, while Teddy Twatwater is already signed and completely immersed in the playbook........ Guess that's why he's still a 3rd stringer.

Word out of Minny, Bridgewater spend the weekend in the Viking's facility during this past weekend studying the playbooks.
First one in, last one out with one of the best OC to ever call plays.

This is Brady Quinn 2.0.
Same chit all over again.
Why can't we learn from our mistakes and take a kid that's well grounded and works crazy hard at his craft. A guy that's proven in the college level??!
Oh right! We did have that guy on the CARD, until our idiot owner changed it in the last second.

My (belated) take on Manziel and the text ... who cares why we traded up to get him. If we traded up because of the text and it works out it won't matter. If we traded up because of the text and it doesn't work out it won't matter. Same goes for if we traded up because of our talent evaluations. If it works or doesn't work is all that matters.
My (belated) take on Manziel in Vegas ... ok

Hitting the books doesn't equate to doing it on the field. No telling if Bridgewater can handle the NFL game yet. That goes for all NFL rookie qb's this year or in the past for any team.

I would laugh if he come out after this year. you guys want to smell what?
