It would be nice if people would actually READ THE FUCKING ARTICLE before they start blasting away.

Yes, Tate more or less said that he wasn't so sure that someone who has yet to play a down in the NFL

    deserves so much attention.

    But then he says:

"It's just as a player I know that I would get tired if people were constantly monitoring if I picked my nose, if I spit to the left or right," Tate said. "I mean, it's annoying. He's a human being. He's a great football player so I understand why he gets some of the constant media attention. At the same time I just figure at this stage he's tired of it and he wants to come in here and do his job and try to win the starting quarterback position."

Yeah, he's really bashing the kid.

    Get a grip, folks.

I don't think he's consciously intending to bash Manziel either. He may even think that his heart is in the right place. His head however is a different story. He suffers a bit from foot in mouth syndrome. What he is saying in general doesn't need to be said by him. I highly doubt any media folks will care enough about his opinion to stop following Manziel. Also, Manziel is only about 10 times more media savvy and experienced than Tate and can probably handle his own issues with the media.

He tries to cover by making it sound like he's calling out the media, but this isn't convincing. First, he's using the same media he claims to be calling out to grab headlines for himself. Second, he knows like everyone else that Johnny Manziel is as responsible as the media for creating the brand.

The reality is that Johnny Manziel is a celebrity quarterback if there ever was one and we all know this. Some can disagree with it; but it is, what it is. What Ben is saying basically boils down to "I don't understand why this guy gets all the attention when he's just a rookie" In other words, he doesn't like the attention he's getting. In other words, there's some envy there.

I'm happy that Ben Tate is a Brown, but I'm concerned that he learned some bad habits sitting behind Arian Foster. Hopefully, he can focus on the positive contributions that he can continue to make to the team and the city and leave the other devisive noise behind.

I'm a little surprised. In reading some of your posts, you seem to be a pretty insightful and articulate fellow. I thought you would appreciate the analysis and respond with something more substantive.

  • I've been really impressed with Manziels media savvy. Truth is he probably doesn't need Ben Tate to stick up for him. CBD even mentioned how Foster probably rubbed some of his media contentiousness onto Tate a bit. I think what Tate said about Manziel's relationship with the media has a lot more to do with Tate's relationship with the media.

That was the nicest way I could tell you to stop.

Tate saying that he's tired of the Manziel attention isn't a bad habit he picked up from Arian Foster. Nor is it indicative of his character. Ben Tate wanted to play in Cleveland, he has accepted the city and it's fans.

Everyone is tired of the Manziel hype, even the Manboys.

Tate said it the best way possible- Manziel has to earn his title. What he did in college is immaterial, just like Mark Ingram.

Do you honestly believe that no other player in the NFL goes to Vegas, or parties with fellow NFL players, or gets drunk at a party after being drafted in the first round of the NFL Draft?

Many players do. I bet 28 of the 32 people drafted in the first round racked up $1,000 bar tabs that night or went home and railed out some hottie. Only difference is the media was waiting for Manziel to do it.

I think you're coming to a lot of unsupported conclusions. You don't think Ben says what he does because he wants the attention? Look at his situation. He finally emerges from Foster's shadow and for a while he's the talk of the town. I'm sure he saw himself as the feature back in the offense. Then comes the draft. Not only does another running back come in and play at least as well as he does, but this guy Manziel comes in and completely steals the limelight. Ben can't figure out why when he hasn't done anything in the NFL. The reason is because Johnny Football is a celebrity and for all of Ben's twittering, he really doesn't compare. Everything that you say about other rookies not getting the attention that Manziel gets proves that he is a celebrity. Yes, it makes no sense and it goes beyond football. But, this is one of the reasons he's in Cleveland, to lend his brand to the Browns and get them more attention. If it isn't then Browns made a big mistake drafting him.

How are my conclusions unsupported yet yours aren't?

We're arguing a guys motivations and feelings, neither of our claims can be supported by fact.

All we can do is guesstimate based on decisions made and character shown. And Ben Tate has done a hell of a lot more good than bad in the extremely short time he's been here.

  • You don't understand life if your only explanation for tate's comments is jealousy. That line of reasoning assumes everyone wants the media following their every move.....

THAT....in and of itself....is a completely false assumption.

  • @everlastingxxx said:

He is rubbing me the wrong way. Sounds like he is jealous of all the attention Manziel gets. Hence why he is going to great lengths to put attention onto himself. All the players were raving about the throw Johnny made to Cameron and he says that its nothing he hasnt seen before. Umm yea whatever Tate, fuckin career backup.

Either you didn't read the article or your reading comprehension is dog shit.

Everlastingxxx is actually drawing reasonable inferences and reading between the lines and he's exactly right. You can't expect Tate to come out and actually say "Hey Media, why are you paying all this attention to a Manziel and not me?"

So, "reading between the lines" (read: drawing unsubstantiated claims) is okay when the opinions are in line with what you believe?

You also can't expect Tate to come out and say "the media should cover Johnny Manziel even more, I think it's a great idea". The man has an opinion, and his opinion is that the media is covering Johnny Manziel entirely too much. 95% of the population agrees with that sentiment and I'm sure 100% of the team agrees with it as well. Saying that doesn't make a person jealous...it simply means they are fed up with the overcoverage.

  • I don't blame Manziel for the attention he is getting, but it could have negative feedback with his teammates. Why don't everyone hold back on the next football god, until he actually does something in the NFL?

  • Another thread hijacked by Faggie Aggies.

Ben Tate is a breath of fresh air.

Started connecting with Browns fans in an awesome way as soon as he signed, which was before the draft.

Manziel homos have been turning every thread into a Johnny slurpfest.

Johnny Manziel is really cool. Why are his fans so goddamn faggy, and why are they here?

Going to start plucking FAs and sending them to the Quinn Board.

    Zombo

  • here we go

  • While the Faggie fans that followed Johnny Scramble here are annoying, the small numbered, but very Faggie "Browns fans" that have their mouths around his shaft are way more irritating. I thought the whole Queen/DA/Noodles/Couch/Frye/Holcomb/Vinny/Bernie era(s) were bad, but damn, these shaft munchers take the cum.

  • Why would a topic like the Ben Tate thread get locked? There's legitimate, lively discussion and judging by the number of views, it's one that has generated a lot of interest.

  • It got hijacked by the we-hate-Manziel-fans circle jerkers.

  • I posted this question earlier and the admins deleted it. Why are posts being locked when people still want to comment? The Ben Tate thread has almost 1500 views and yet some admin unilaterally decides to stop the discussion. Are the admins so afraid of differing viewpoints? The point of a forum is to have a discussion. If not, this place is pointless.

  • If you want to talk about Ben Tate, start a new Ben Tate thread. It's that easy.

    Admin

  • It seems an admin on this site keeps deleting posts they don't like. This unethical behavior makes me wonder they run a discussion forum in the first place.
