Browns fans outside of Ohio

Tennessee here. Most of the fans know who we are since we were in the same division some years back. As someone else said, most view those of us who watch every week...we have about 20.. think we are a bit crazy, but now there is even more awarness since the Haslam family owns the team. The Haslams have been well known in this state for a long time.

People could complete and utterly care less about the Browns here...... Well, now some people care because of Conner Shaw. But then if he gets cut, everyone will HATE the browns since he is such a beloved icon here.

Well, I agree that anyone anywhere probably does not care about any team that is not "their" team....or their rival.
Cleveland Browns fans care about the Cleveland Browns...and hate the Steelers/Raven/Bengals.
And we don't give a shit about the South Carolina Gamecocks or the Clemson Tigers.

As for following a particular player.....like I said before, if that is what you want to do....follow golf, tennis, or nascar.
Do you like a guy and want him to do well? Sure....but make it just mild interest.
If Connor Shaw can come in here and play and win....fabulous. If he comes in here and sits on the bench...whatever. If he comes in here and sucks gator piss....fuck him.
I for one am not going to root for a guy just because he played at a college I am a fan of. Ryan Shazier can now go jump off a cliff (metaphorically). And the same for any OSU guy that has become a Steeler or Raven.

I will add that again being in NC I do love running into the occasional Browns fan. It's awesome because we all know there's no such thing as a bandwagon Browns fan and I typically have the rare chance to talk about the team outside of here or with my dad.

There probably would be FRAK Browns fans if/when the Browns really start winning. But, in reality, when the Browns start winning...it will literally dwarf the interest shown in most other teams. There may have been a diaspora of people from Cleveland....but all that means is they left Cleveland/NEO, that doesn't mean Cleveland left them.

I live in west TX, nothing but Cowboy and Steeler fans. Cowboy fans..... Well they're Cowboy fans.
Substitute the occasional Saints fan for your Steelers, and pretty much the same in East Texas, i.e., Cowboys 24/7.
My parents live in Naples Florida from the mid 80's until they both passed in the late 2000's,and one of the things they were amazed at was how many Browns fans lived there. I don't know if that's still true, but they were certainly known in south Florida at one time.
A snowbird pipeline from NE Ohio to Naples started in the 60's. My maternal Grandfather was swept up by it.
... lived on our street in Maple Hts back in the late 60's
Maple Heights? Holy Milkovich! People in Texas cannot believe that HS wrestling is 2nd only to football in many areas of Ohio.

I went to Valley Forge and remember Maple Heights wrestling well.

California is a big state, I think your statement covers where you live. There are plenty of Browns fans in the San Diego area.
yep I know of a few in SD myself - lived on our street in Maple Hts back in the late 60's

This is true, but unfortunately, like so many other sports, wrestling is dominated by the big parochial recruiters, particularly St. Eds.. A great coach like Milan? Milkovich could have a llocal public school stand dominant for a while....but no longer. The only break to this hegemony was when the Wadsworth Grizzlies broke through the money barrier and took the state title a couple of years back for a local public school. And good for them. (and in the interest of full disclosure, yes, my kids attended Wadsworth when they won...or at least my daughter did, who cheered for them).

Yup... or Toledo St. Johns... or Toledo St. Francis...
But from the mid-50's thru the early 70's Maple Hts was a frickin' wrestling dynasty.

I live in the middle of nowhere in the North Cotswolds in England, between me and another member on this board, G-Man, we have flown the flag in our area many times and I now have enough people interested in the Browns to consider opening a BBW chapter - North Cotswolds browns backers, got a nice ring to it. Finding a venue to watch the games is pretty impossible so I need to decide if I want drunken idiots in my home every Sunday - hmmmmm. probably not.

There needs to be a yearly England-wide meet up! Whereabouts exactly are you?

Good ole' Youngstown Ohio here baby, and there are plenty of Browns fans here. Plenty of faggoty ass bandwagon Steelers fans as well.
The Browns fans here are pretty damn rowdy and passionate about their team. We could give two fucks less about what others think. This is Youngstown. And the majority of folks around here KNOW football. Again this is Youngstown, folks LOVE their highschool football: of Mooney, Ursuline, and by extension Warren Harding fame (as well as Boardman, which was Bernie Kosars Highschool alma mater... My step brother had his locker in high school, or so he claims....).
And yes the rich, stuck up, filthy Debartolos are from here. How do I know they are fucking douche bags? Because I went to school with several of their grandchildren.
Anyways, go Youngstown and go Browns. People talk about Cleveland being a rough and tumble, blue collar city, and it is, but I believe Youngstown is even more so. Have lived here my entire life, and people here got some real real fight in 'em.
In my experience you have to search out to find the Browns fans (in nearby Columbiana county), rather than just run into them randomly. Unlike Steelers fair-weather fans...you'll run into those all day long. But when you do run into a Browns fan...it's like running into an old friend.

You mean "more" drunken idiots...besides you and Garth?

I love how you stereotype. The days of Cleveland football greatness are a distant memory only in the minds of Clevelanders. Cleveland is a football town only in the mind of Clevelanders, to most everyone else they are an embarrassment of a franchise with ignorant, arrogant, drunken, and boorish fans.
Well, the stereotype of the Steeler fan as a ignorant stupid idiot is no stereotype.....it is an impiracal fact.....You are exhibit A.
So, you don't think Cleveland IS a football town? What do you think it is, a baseball/basketball/hockey town?
Or do you think that LA/San Fran/SD or any of those towns in Calif. are bigger football towns than Cleveland is?
Or, do you just not like the fact that Cleveland is really, by far, a better football town than Pittsburgh, with a better football pedigree?
As far as the days of Cleveland football greatness.....well, a new era of that may just beginning. Certainly an era of Pittsburgh football mediocrity has begun.

NE Ohio here.
Lots of Steeler fans.
Ok, the thread title says "outside of Ohio"...but I'm originally from Western Pa. and have to mention that during my dads generation, there were a lot of browns fans in Western Pa. because the Steelers always sucked.
So its easy to guess why there are so many Steeler fans in Ohio.

Or do you think that LA/San Fran/SD or any of those towns in Calif. are bigger football towns than Cleveland is? If you measure it by failure and embarrassment then Cleveland wins hands down. Or maybe you can measure it by how how badly the fans "want" a winner, that would rank Cleveland pretty high.
Or, do you just not like the fact that Cleveland is really, by far, a better football town than Pittsburgh, with a better football pedigree? Have another toke dude!

this guy would make any of the most staunch JF fanboys bearable. hell i think lighting myself on fire would be more pleasurable than reading another post from this bowel blocker.

The only way I can tell a Steelers fan from a Browns fan is...the Steelers fan has 6 rings.

And what does that have to do with which particular sport we have passion for? That just means we have had some shitty ownership of our teams over the years.

I see nothing to be embarrassed about. Are you personally embarassed because the Pirates set the record for most consecutive losing seasons for a professional sports franchise? Yes, it is a failure, but not an embarassment. And, no...that is not how a teams passion for its team is determined. The test of a fanbase is how it hangs in their with its team in times of extended failure by that team on the field.
I doubt seriously that Pittsburgh Steeler fans would at all come close to displaying the same kind of continued support and devotion for their team in the face of a long period of losing. You are famous frontrunner/fair weather fans. Do we want a winner? Absolutely. Name me any town that doesn't.
Or, do you just not like the fact that Cleveland is really, by far, a better football town than Pittsburgh, with a better football pedigree? Have another toke dude!
Thirteen Championships......call us when Pittsburgh even reaches the halfway point to that figure. And lets see, where is the Pro Football Hall of Fame located again? Oh, yea, Northeast Ohio.

Odds of what? Winning the Super Bowl....ain't happening. Getting on the road to perhaps that goal? about 95%. Being better than the Steelers? About 50/50.

Yes, and the fans of Northeast Ohio teams have 13 rings....there is a definite difference there.
So you need more education on this subject?

I've lived all over the US - Ohio ( 4 times ), California ( 3 times ), Texas, Nebraska, Mississippi, Minnesota, North Carolina ...
It's been my experience, people only care about their teams - meaning where they're from ( I'm normally around a lot of military personnel ) - for the most part. Regional bias is often the norm, with few exceptions to the front runners - Patriots, Steelers, Cowboys, etc. I currently work with a guy who's from NC ... and he's a Steelers/Seahawks fan. ( supposedly because of his grandparents, etc ). I wear my Browns gear and people don't say shit to me. I make it a point to always say something to other Browns fans though. But if comes up in combination, people never really express their opinions one way or the other about the Browns - good, bad, indifferent.
I recently ran into a guy here in Monterey, wearing a Browns sweatshirt with the Elf on it. I said "Go Browns. Where in Ohio are you from?" He said he wasn't from Ohio, just loved the sweatshirt, and cheered for the Browns on occasion. Odd response. In my life, I've run into one Browns fan who wasn't from Ohio ... he was from New York. Claimed to be a Bears fan until Payton died, and then became a Browns fan. Dunno.
2 years ago, I was in at BW3s in Fairfield ( between Sacramento and San Fran ), watching the Browns beat the crap out of the Bungles. It was my birthday, and I was screaming and clapping. A dude in Falcons gear, from the other side of the bar comes over. He said "I just want to shake your hand. I've never met a real live Browns fan. You're loud and proud." Damn straight.
People are people ... nothing surprises me anymore.

I'm in Boston and most people just feel sorry for me. Last year's come-from-behind victory for the Patriots against the Browns didn't help. And shameful as it was, I was telling Patriot fans not to leave the stadium because they were about to witness one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history (I just knew it was going to happen). I only wish that the final field goal attempt didn't come up about 5 yards short. Campbell played a good game, but the defense collapsed in the 4th quarter.
Nonetheless, Bostonians can pity me all they want; being a Browns fan is about resilience during difficult times. When we do start winning games and perhaps championships again, we will know that we were loyal during the tough times and that will make the good times even sweeter!
Go Browns!!

Browns fan hear in Boston area too. We just visited the football museum at Gilette Stadium and watched the movie about the Patriots "struggles" through the years to win the Super Bowl. My brother and I were like yeah you poor Pats fans have had it so hard lol. When they have The Drive, The Fumble, and the Move they can come cry us a river and talk to us about football resilience!
