I agree - and already said as much. But within the EU, border control is basically non-existent, when I drove from England through europe and back - 18 border crossings I think in total - I did not have my passport checked once.

Think of the EU as essentially the United States of America when it comes to land borders, and I think that's similar. Then, all you have to do is get in to eastern europe somehow and you're all set.

For the eurostar - the passenger train version - there's airport-like security. For the car train (above), there's no security that I can remember.
