  • I heard a report that JFF had not learned the playbook as was expected of him. That he was basically lost on reads that the coaches thought he should be making....and that he had acquired a bit of a paunch.

Now, maybe that last bit is just rumor, and maybe the first bit is just being a rookie.....but needless to say, the coaches were not impressed by his dedication.

But it’s clear Manziel’s first professional offseason didn’t exactly go as some in the organization as hoped.

Training Camp hasn't even fucking started yet?

    This article is horse shit.

Actually, no, I think the rookies have been in the last couple of days.

And camp doesn't have to have started to tell if JFF is paunchy.

  • I realize on paper JFF has the potential. But Hoyer has a fire lit under him now, and Manziel is going to have to WORK to beat him.

I don't want Manziel to start, let Hoyer see what he can accomplish.

But to say that his first offseason is a failure and we haven't officially kicked off full team training camp is a fucking joke.

Mary Kay is a fucking blow hard.

  • apparently it's logical to think the Browns drafted a QB in the 1st who doesn't have the upside of being able to win a super bowl.

this is just Retarded. fan boy this, fan boy that.

    i'm arguing with women.

It's happened before... and not just to the Browns.

Look... I simply do not see JM as a "sure thing"... certainly not when it comes to a SB winner. I seldom see one of those at QB. Last one was Andrew Luck. JM has the potential to be a solid starter in the NFL, but whether or not he becomes one is up to him.

Just curious, do you know if the Yahoo lines are based on Vegas lines? Last year I did a pick 4, pick 6 and pick 12.

Never looked to see if they favor a particular line or not... sorry...

Report: Johnny Manziel’s off-field actions have “alarmed” Browns

Posted by Mike Wilkening on July 25, 2014, 2:35 PM EDT

Moreover, the Plain Dealer reports that Manziel’s play in OTAs “regressed” as the workouts went on — and that members of the organization believed it could be chalked up to Manziel not being diligent enough in his work.

What’s more, the Plain Dealer, citing sources, reported that some in the organization believed Manziel had “lost ground” in the battle to beat out Brian Hoyer for the starting job.

Now, it’s on the Browns’ first-round pick to prove any discussion of his off-field habits is much ado about nothing.

"Losing ground" would be the result of "regressing", so they are in essence the same thing. If true, then the root cause, not working hard enough, is a concern.

Like I said above, how far he goes is up to him.

  • I realize on paper JFF has the potential. But Hoyer has a fire lit under him now, and Manziel is going to have to WORK to beat him.

Agree about the potential, but when was the fire lit? Apparently not in OTAs...

Here's an alternate theory... JM has seen how hard others work, but believes he doesn't need to... that in the end his talent will carry him to the starting role... just as it has in the past.

JM has talent, but more talented prospects have failed by not working hard enough at their craft... and less talented have found success through hard work.

  • well pettine said last week or earlier this week (which mort reported on) that until he learns the playbook he won't be seeing any first team reps.

    so..........

  • Johnny Manziel's biggest opponent during camp may be the playbook, according to ESPN Cleveland.

Manziel's biggest opponent during camp may be the playbook, according to ESPN Cleveland.

    Analysis:

Manziel is set to compete with Brian Hoyer for the Browns' starting quarterback job during minicamp that opens Friday, but head coach Mike Pettine has made it no secret that Hoyer is the frontrunner out of the gate. Just like any rookie, Manziel will have to perfect his knowledge of the playbook before having a legitimate chance of overtaking Hoyer. As it currently stands, Hoyer will start the Browns' first preseason game, and will continue to do so until Manziel earns starter consideration. If Hoyer performs as expected and wins the starter's job by Week 1, it doesn't necessarily mean Manziel won't see the field. Pettine acknowledged that he'll have "special packages" for Manziel during the season, which could be designed to take advantage of his ability as a runner. However, this won't do much for his projected fantasy value until Manziel is able to take over the starting job. The Browns open the season against the Steelers, Saints and Ravens, and if Hoyer manages to look good over that tough stretch, the job may end up proving more difficult to take than anticipated.

  • manziel, hoyer and haden among others will be addressing the media on nfl network within the hour.......

heard whitner was gassed and the last to get off the field during conditioning tests. guess he thought NE ohio couldn't get hot.

he'll be fine. gonna take a while for everyone to get up to speed.

  • Watching Pettine now, and he said that he is impressed with how all of the QBs came into camp, and "they all obviously have been studying the playbook" and then went out of his way to say "especially Johnny".

  • so pettine is still speaking on nfl network as they cut to commercial and basically has said that manziel has come in and shown great improvement with his knowledge of the playbook, that hoyer will start with the ones and manziel with the twos for NOW, and dodged questions about manziel off-field stuff which i believe he should.

meanwhile the reporters knw he doesn't want to get into the personal stuff about manziel or categorizing the QB competition as nothing more than that BUT they keep picking at him.

    assholes.

  • hoyer up talking. what a fuckin class act.

"want the best qb to play for this team, if johnny beats me out then i know he deserves and i had given all i could."

the reporters are going to be a pain in the ass this camp. what a bunch of fucking idiots.

  • For those of you that watch Deadliest Catch, Johnny reminds me of Elliott Neese, Capt. of the Saga. For those of you that don't watch it, that wasn't a compliment.

Yup... Had to turn off NFL Live when they started making a big deal of JM not coming out in "team issued apparel".

That was atop Holzman openly questioning how open of a QB competition there was going to be just because an unnamed player said the Browns' locker room expected BH to start the season.

Stir the pot and get paid...

The media in general is a groveling pile of hypocritical annoying jizz bags.

    Fuck the media.

  • the first question some asshole asked manziel after manziel had kinda said he wasn't going to talk about the off the field stuff was "hey johnny, why were you rolling up the $20 bill?"

    doh!

they just dogged him out about what he had to say about how he liked to go out in the off-season and hang with his friends and yet now they are repeating his part of the press conference for the second time since it ended.

... unless you actually want to win one... 😮

    From SNL Season 2 Episode 13 - 01/29/77

Announcer: Ladies and gentlemen -- Fran Tarkenton!

Fran Tarkenton: Uh, thank you. Thank you very much. Uh, now I'm not going to predict how this show will turn out. Uh -- [ he laughs ] You know, I've never hosted a TV show before, and I really don't have the best track records... as far as predictions go. Before the Superbowl, I kind of made a fool of myself. I got on national television, and told the whole world the Vikings would definitely win the game. And, as you probably know, we... were narrowly defeated. Uh -- [ he laughs ] by a very, very lucky Oakland team.

Uh -- before we go any further, I'd like to say something about the kind of people here on "Saturday Night". They asked me to do this show a week before the Superbowl, and, uh -- I thought if we lost the game, "Saturday Night" would be well within their rights to, uh, call me the next day and cancel. Well... [ he chuckles ] I was wrong, and, uh, they called me at Half Time.

Now, I want everyone to know -- especially you Vikings fans out there -- that the Vikings aren't dead yet. [ the audience cheers ] Uh -- we're a team, uh, built on pride and discipline. And, next July, we're going back to Mankato, Minnesota -- we're gonna work harder than ever. We're gonna put on those bonnets and purple jerseys, and strap those little shoulder pads on, and I guarantee ya' that... we'll BE in that Superbowl next season! And I predict... we'll lose again.

[ the audience applauds the joke ]

  • football by day for johnny and then........
