It doesn't matter what you think....or what I think. It only matters what happens.

Before it happened no one would ever have said "Jim Plunkett will win two Super Bowls"......or...actually, they probably did say that. Jim Plunkett, after all, was only the #1 overall pick of the draft.

No one would have said "Brian Sipe....a 13th round pick will be league MVP"

No one would have said "Kurt Warner, grocery bagger, Arena League player, will become NFL MVP".

No one would have said "Tom Brady, 6th round pick....will never become league MVP. Spergon Wynn who was drafted ahead of Brady is more likely to become an MVP".

In other words you....and particulary YOU....cannot predict anything simply because you believe something.

Lots of people that were supposed to be great weren't.....and lots of people that weren't supposed to be great were.

Ok but now that Hoyer was looked at, evaluated and cut by 3 teams mean nothing to you? You think that happens a lot to future HOFers? How about to future QBs that lead their team to the playoffs?

You can point to all the outliers you want and say "See the NFL isn't perfect" but they're pretty damn close to it. They get it right far more than they get it wrong. ESPECIALLY with veterans. The draft is more tricky, but when a guys been in the league for 5 years and 3 different teams cut him, that's a pretty good sign.

I think you're far too biased to have a reasonable conversation. Brian Sipe in the Top 5 of all time? Of what?

I am not biased at all. I am only talking possibilities........

and like I said, you are either a special education student when it comes to reading comprehension.....or completely ignorant about football history.

    Which is it?

No....if JMZ is as good as advertized then we will all be going to heaven...because it won't matter what Hoyer does.....and because we are Browns fans, not Hoyer fans, or JMZ fans.....or any of that shit.

    LOL... close enough...

    Downside shouldn't be too bad...

I feel like I've been in hell training camp ever since the draft.

OK: One guy who was with 3 teams before he either made the Pro Bowl or lead his team to a postseason appearance:

    Rich Gannon

He was with Minnesota, Kansas City and Washington. Never made the playoffs, never made a Pro Bowl. At age 34 he went to Oakland, made the Pro Bowl the next 4 years, and in 3 of those years he took his team to the playoffs, including one Super Bowl appearance....a loss.

Anyone seen Drew Bree's stats in his first 3 seasons at SD.

He was so medocre, they almost ran him out SD (eventuall got traded) until Antonio Gates showed up in 2004.

    There.

    I did it.

2 superbowl MVP and future HoF that sucked in their first 3 seasons.

Apparently. He did not stay with them. I guess there are only 3 ways to leave your lover, get cut, become a FA after a contract expires, get Traded.

I don't know the specifics of all that. All I know is that his first 3 teams didn't keep him.

The point being.....such a thing has happened. I am not saying Hoyer would duplicate what Gannon did. I am just pointing out that such a thing has happened before. That it is not totally beyond the realm of possibility.

  • There.

And he was backing up a future HOF QB, just like Hoyer. The parallels are creepy.

(I'm being facetious. I understand the talent differential between Hoyer and Rodgers coming out of college and the difference between a first round draft pick and being undrafted.)

Another guy that might fit the mold of "journeyman QB" who made his first Pro Bowl and playoff appearance after moving around to a few teams:

Billy Kilmer. Spent years with the 49ers and Saints, never making playoffs....until he got a chance with the Redskins, then made a Super Bowl and a Pro Bowl.

  • The GipperT The Gipper wrote on last edited by

    Another guy:

Steve Beurlein. On roster with the Raiders/Cowboys/Cardinals/Jaguars.....and with his 5th team, The Panthers, he made the Pro Bowl.

A couple of his earlier teams that he was a backup on, like the Cowboys, made the playoffs, but he was not a playoff starter until the Panthers.

So he is very much like Hoyer.

He wasn't traded or dumped by 3 teams, but take a gander at Terry Bradshaws first 5 years if you want to see some poor quarterbacking....48 tds VS 81 ints....he was completely miserable really (I think the Browns woulda dumped him for sure)...

So, whether its Montana in the 3rd round......or Brady in the 6th.....or Sipe in the 13th....or Ryan Leaf at #2 overall, you just never know.......talent, experience and maturity all make a difference on how quickly some qb's develop.....

Personally, I think history shows that experience and maturity usually beat out undeveloped raw talent....especially at the QB position.... ....
