We blew it on Watkins.
-
The proof will be in the pudding. Come later this year the Browns and Bills play. And how often do we think that we will see Justin Gilbert covering Sammy Watkins?
It would be fresh if they were matched up most of the game.....and fresher yet if Gilbert dominated Watkins.......though I suspect that Watkins will probably have to deal with Joe Haden a lot more than he has to deal with Gilbert.
-
We have a QB now. Never understood why he got such a bad rap. Even more impressed with him now. EJ is trash. Orton is far from trash.
Orton is, and always has been, a good backup QB. If bills fans think he's the future idk what they're high on.
I was as big of a Watkins booster as there was around here... and when the draft got to us at #4 and Mack was still on the board, I was all in for Khalil. There were other strong WR prospects in the 2014 draft, but no LBs.
Then when the trade was announced and Gilbert was announced, I was fine with that outcome.
Do I wish Gilbert had started stronger? Sure... but I've seen enough progress to believe that his promise will be realized.
Orton is, and always has been, a good backup QB. If bills fans think he's the future idk what they're high on.
Dangerously close to channeling Stockton there...

What pisses me off about passing on Watkins is that Pettine/Farmer/Haslam kept it in the dark UNTIL AFTER DRAFT DAY that Gordon would be gone for the year.
Please provide a link to definitive proof of this conspiracy.
The best google can find is a MKC article referencing a "unnamed league source" saying what you claim. And we know how scrupulously MKC checks her references...

You're fucking Retarded.
You traded your 2014 #1 and your 2015 #1 for our 2014 #1 (You took Watkins).
It's actually just a fact, not some kind of fancy words you can't wrap your head around.

Complete idiot!!! Yes we did trade that. You forget to mention we traded our 2014 for YOURS!!!!!! Which was higher!!!!!!!! It's swapping picks we just didnt hand over two picks. U didnt get two first! U got one! We got your first in 2014 moron! That's swapping. And we got a star and u got a half way decent corner. enjoy it.

You realize that by this logic we got your 2015 #1 for nothing...
So much for our Bills visitors being the most reasonable and rational we get...
Exceptions to every rule, I guess...

Watkins was just voted rookie of the month. It may take Gilbert AND Hayden to keep him in check.
I guess the point is that if you have an early first rounder, he better be productive on day one. When it takes time to develop, and he isn't an instant contributor, he may be blossoming at contract time like everyone else, which doesn't help the Browns.
Barring injury you're hoping guys drafted in the top 10 are going to be playing in the NFL for 10 years. To be crying that Gilbert hasn't been voted defensive rookie of the month yet (after all of seven games) is silly. Yeah- it's nice to hope your top 10 pick will come right in and have an immediate impact- but it doesn't always work out that way. By the above warped logic, Jaguars fans should be bitching Blake Bortles isn't playing like Peyton Manning yet.
If you weren't looking Gilbert had his best game against the Raiders by far. As Tour said- he's stating to show the reason why he was drafted @ #8. And you want to talk no immediate impact- Darqueze Dennard (who was touted almost equally highly- or even higher on some draft boards) is currently buried third string on the Bengals depth chart behind the likes of Dre Kirkpatrick (who's rapidly proving he is a bust) and ancient Adam Jones.
-
The good news is that Gilbert has already won as many Super Bowls as Calvin Johnson, dez Bryant, AJ Green, Julio Jones, Larry Fitzgerald, Demaryius Thomas, and Sammy Watkins combined.
-
Fuck Watkins and all the other guys we DIDNT pick. You can have him. Your happy, we're happy. He's not a Brown. We dont care.
Why not come back when he wins something, instead of GUESSING how things will turn out.
Call me when Watkins has DOUBLE the other top WR's numbers, cause thats what he cost. Double. So, Right now he's not even a top ten wr, but cost twice as much.(not even the best rookie wr if your asking me)(rather have Cooks or Benjiman)
Lets wait and see which team develops over the next 2-3 years, which is when this deal will start to play out. And we will see how much Mr. Superstar WR Watkins wins, compared to Mr. Gilbert, Maziel, Bitonio, West, Crowell and nexts years 2 first rounders.
we will be here, but somehow suspect you Buff guys wont be gloating in 2 years. Nope. (u gloat like a goat, btw)
Josh Gordon= 2nd round
Terrell Owens= 3rd round
* will be waiting to see Sammy exceed TO or even JG's 120 ypg from last year(with Weeden and Campbell). 2 first round picks ought to get you LOTS more than that, Im thinking.
I remember JG got 280 yards against Jax last year, then Jax came back and scored at the end to win. Then we went to NE and had them on the ropes. JG was FANTASTIC and had another big day(150+ yards), then Tom Brady scored 3 touchdowns in like a minute and won.
Now, after we scored all those points and JG runs up and down the field with ease, then we completely choke and collapse defensively and lose the games - yeah, Im certain the coaches and FO were saying... "Damn, we need a wide receiver"....holy fucking jesus lays an egg
U think Sammy would have stopped Brady from scoring all those points? Or he would have stopped Jax from that scoring drive?
Nope. Farmer made a GREAT choice. He completely fleeced the Bills, who in turn, completely fleeced their fans by sacrificing their teams growth for the "pretty" pick. Until Watkins shit's out a Lombardi Trophy on his own, I dont need to hear anymore about him.
-
How'd your boy Sammy do against a real CB like Revis?? Was it 2 catches, 27 yards??
Call me when he (or your whole team for that matter) beats somebody decent, and who gameplans against him...
Can't wait to watch Watkins and Haden matchup. That'll tell you something about your "Golden Boy"...

Until Watkins is paired with a real qb we can't even begin to calculate his upside. He's done what's he's done this year with awful QB play. That kid would be leading the NFL with Hoyer throwing to him. Ok not the Hoyer from the JAX game but good Brian Hoyer from the first 5 or so games. If you just added Watkins production in Buffalo, with their shitty QB's...he'd have us at the top of the AFC North. We may have only lost one game up till now. But like I said you put him on our WR corp and his numbers would be even greater. Who knows, you might even be able to take the JAX game off the board because Watkins would have drawn more of their coverage downfield and some other things may have opened up..perhaps the run game. I dunno. I'm just saying that's the kind of impact player he is "right now"...I feel almost 100% confident that with him on our team we'd have "at least" two of those losses off the board. Given what our offense has done so far and what Hoyer did through the first couple games.

A lot of guessing and excuses here. You can't make any of those claims.

yes it's true I can't make them with "absolute" certainty. Sammy Watkins could have come here to Cleveland and been a bum. Instead he went to Buffalo and was like at least it's not Cleveland and decided to play hard for them. I just cna't see how at least the first Pgh and Blt games wouldn't have gone our way with that dude flying through those, at least at the time, awful secondaries.

Really? The last 4 games their "awful QB play" has looked like this:
95 of 141, 67.4% 1128 yards, 9 TDs, 3 INTs, 104.0 QB Rating
Jeez... that's awful...

last 4 games? I thought Manuel's only been gone for 2 or 3 games...and wasn't his QBR like 19 or something? IN any case with Hoyer throwing to him...ffs.

I'm talking about how you said we'd be 6-1, Watkins would be leading the NFL with Hoyer, etc. Not whether or not he'd be good.

It's the first Blt and Pgh games that we lost by 3 points. I can't help but feel that as well as our offense has played, putting that guy on our team is at least 1 extra TD a game either from him or someone else like Cameron who would have gotten less attention. Imo Watkins is that good. One extra TD in both of those games is the "minimum" in my eyes. Either an extra TD or a couple extra field goals. In either case I think he helps us make up at least those 3 points in both games.

Pure speculation. FWIW, no one is saying Watkins isn't any good, or potentially going to be an eventual top 10 wr. What just about everyone else on this board is saying- we didn't draft him, and it's time to move on. I also pointed out Julio Jones IS a top 10 wr #6 in yards- look it up, and the Falcons are 2-6. Big impact? Not really.

So start him in your fantasy league, because he won't be playing for the Browns anytime soon.
Farmer made that trade because in his eyes Watkins wasn't worth a future first and fourth round pick. He's not thinking just THIS YEAR- no great GM does. So Watkins could be even more incredibly great, IF the Bills just had a great quarterback? So where do you suppose they're going to get one in the foreseeable future, short of an alien spaceship depositing one in Rich Stadium? They don't have a first round pick next year- so the only way they could possibly trade back up into the low first is sacrifice their second and third round picks- which essentially leaves them with no draft- or start trading away key defensive players to move up- and you never get fair value for a player come draft day. BTW, the Patriots got Randy Moss for a fourth round pick. If Farmer wants to go the trade route to get a complimentary wr for Gordon, he's got plenty of ammo to do so.

A touchdown a game from a rookie WR? Yah.

Well, Farmer had a chance to draft greatness, and he chose another potential bust, and a draft pick instead..
If this doesn't pan out, add Farmer to the giant scrap heap of "great" cleveland General managers.
