Breaking: BROWNS CUT BEN TATE

  • I think Tate will land in Oakland or Minn. They both need backs and are higher up the waiver list.

If Oakland doesnt take him, then they have probably decided to tank the season and not even try to get better.

We knew we had a problem getting bigger name FA to come to CLE. And now....

The browns have never ever ever ever ever had a problem signing free agents. We have gotten plenty of big names. Try again

Funniest joke I've heard in years.

  • Who would you prefer as the starter going forward Crowell or West ?

If Tate goes to Indy watch him and Richardson both have 100 yard 2 TD's each games ....... when they play us

This could be more true than you know.
  • But why not get a tight end or something for him? We got a first round pick for Richardson and Tate is way better. You'll see, he'll come back and score against us when we play Indy.

  • @comeonman said:

You will have to remind me of a 'good' free agent that wanted to play in CLE. And I'm not talking 'good' as in Kruger.

Karlos Dansby and Donte Whitner. We were in the market for the biggest names like Byrd and Revis, but got outbid - which is probably for the best given the performance of Gipson and our young corners.

I think the whole "don't want to be in cleveland" doesn't apply as much as people think it does, it's more so "money talks"

It's not "Don't want to be in Cleveland" as much as it is "want to play for a contender" or "want a city with more to offer". As much as people here want to deny it, these are factors for some players.

At the end of the day, it's always "money talks". But if you're a 28 year old FA and you have three offers that are exactly the same - one from Cleveland, one from New York (Jets or Giants) and one from say, Denver... the odds of that player choosing Cleveland over the other two, unless they have some sort of ties to the city, aren't good.

Now, if Cleveland were to string together a couple of 10+ win, playoff/Super Bowl seasons...things would be a little different. But, the Cleveland of late...good luck not overpaying for quality free agents.

  • Never thought he was good. Glad to be rid of Taint

I heard the Manson family had something to do with Tates disappearance.......... oh wrong Tate

Since you brought that up...I read 'Ol Chuck is getting married...to some 26 year old. He's 80 now.

How much taxpayer money have we wasted on him? If hes not the poster child for capital punishment i dont know who is

Not only that, but he's been in a special protective cell the whole time. He should have been given the Dahmer treatment a long time ago.....

And back on topic, I agree free agents didnt want to come because we had a bad team. I honestly dont think we even tried to sign many(any?) top free agents anyway. So it's hard to say.......But if we win, they'll come.......Ask the Cavs..... Or the 90's Indians.....Or the 80's Browns.

Top of head. Eric steinbach, lecharles Bentley, jamaal lewis, donte whitner, karlos dansby, willie mcginnnest, Andre rison, Joe jurivicious, vinny testerverde.... I know there are plenty more from 2000- just give me some time.

  • I think it's kind of a shame. When they signed Tate it seemed to be the first sign of life for the Browns this offseason. After the crazy coach search and getting turned down by various coordinators.

It all came together pretty well, but at the time he was one if the few really injecting some enthusiasm into the town. Wanted to be here and seemed like a good fit.

  • But we were 5-2 with Ben Tate starting at RB.

How many Browns RBs can say they were 5-2 as a starter?

You guys must be furious right?

Listen Mr Shityour Shorts does your bullshit ever end?? Explain how he was the starter in the rotation the rest of us have been watching.

I thought it was because they wanted some more flashy uniforms with colors and shit.

If all variables were the same, I'm sure there is a small section of players who would choose style over non-style.

  • I thought they gave him more money, good riddance

  • I liked Tate initially, just because of having to endure a season of revolving backs. McGayhee, Lewis, Baker, Obi... any others? With Tate came stability at the position. Which was good.

Then we drafted 2 kids that really have some weight behind their carries and some weight in their character, Hungry runners that are Cleveland Born(Browns Rookies) and full of desire. Which was good.

Then Tate went down and those two carried the team and were blazing through the ranks in rushing, gaining momentum and experience... which was good.

Then Tate came back and what he brought to the table couldn't match the fire that was already started in those two. You know what you have in Tate, what you don't know is how much better can these other two guys be than Tate.

Tate became angry and it seemed in a lot of his interviews he was dismissing the success of his teammates and demanded they all recognize that he was the man with the higher contract. Which was bad.

Tate got carries to prove that he could out show them, he didn't. The people(fans) wanted to see more of Crowell and West, when Tate was in the game they felt like they weren't trying hard enough to win, they kept trotting out Tate while everyone clamored for more of that success that the Rooks showed earlier.. This was bad for Tate.

Tate tried to embrace Cleveland, but he's no Joe Haden. Cleveland Born Browns are great to root for, FA? Not so much. Kruger I like though... and I really like Whitner, since he's from here. Nice coming home story, kinda like Joe Vicious.

See when I watch football I watch it for the person almost as much as the player. The way I see it is this, every season there are 31 losers and one winner. The odds are not in your favor to win it all every year. You have to find those players that you're willing to lose with and suffer win and hopefully one day Celebrate with.... I really like this group of guys that we have right now - This Year! Why Not Us?

  • Love your optimism man but we just aren't good enough yet. Farmer will build to get us there though of that I am 100% sure. A home playoff game will happen in Cleveland within the next three years.

  • But why not get a tight end or something for him? We got a first round pick for Richardson and Tate is way better. You'll see, he'll come back and score against us when we play Indy.

What is it you don't get? The trade deadline passed Oct. 28th.. That means we couldn't trade him. That was 3 weeks ago..

Had he starterd moaning a month ago, we probably would have.

    Quit sounding stupid.

  • He'll be a Falcon before the game on Sunday.

  • Look, lets dial back the Drama meter a little. First, this is going to be a several year transformation, and you will drive yourself insane second guessing every move. It seems like the FO has a plan, things are moving forward in a positive direction. There are going to be setbacks along the way. The team needs to learn how to be a winner. That will come with time. Im not going to rehash how rookie our coaching staff, and players are. Just stay positive and not rush to judgement every week. Unless of course your into that sort of thing.
