San Fran and Seattle would argue against this.

Russell Wilson was 26 TD 9 INTs last year, not bad for not throwing the ball.

Top 4 in passing TDs this year Manning, Rodgers, Luck & Brady...hmmm you're right this is a running league

If you said KC that'd be closer but they have yet to really win anything

Russell Wilson was the teams 2nd leading rusher behind Lynch, not bad for a throwing QB.

Doesn't mean that it didn't happen, how old are you?

    I'm guessing about 15.

  • @baconhound said:

And yes Cincy and Atlanta do have poor run defenses, sorry.

Dude, do you even see the irony in your argument?? Hmmmmm, what do you want to do against teams that do something bad???? Gee, I don't know.

Crow had 12 carries for 88yds and 2 TDs. His first 2 carries went for -2 yds, so his next 10 went for 90yds and 2 scores............Yea, why give him more carries?

Game day 'flow' doesn't care if it's 1950 or 2014. Any good play caller calls what works, and if you don't think that running the ball against the league's worst run defense, with a RB that is averaging 9yds per carry over his last 9 carries is the right thing to do, "just because it's 2014, and it's a QB driven league" then I don't know what to do for you son.

Can we at least agree on some facts.

*Austin should've caught that pass in the end zone +4pts

*Hoyer shouldn't have chucked that in the back of the end zone to Gordon +3pts

That play calling that you're upset about should've yielded 34 points today. So if you're theory is the Browns should run the ball 55 times and throw it 15 we will continue to disagree. If you are saying that is a winning formula in today's NFL we'll continue to disagree.

Seattle was 30th in total passing offense last year. I see you avoided that little stat.

Rodgers plays on a stacked team but won his SuperBowl when Starks emerged and his defense was #2 in the NFL.

Manning is 7-3 almost 7-4 and the donkeys are looking suspect against Miami.

Luck has an OC that will throw until the kids arm falls off. Plus they have NO running game now.

Brady plays on a run first team and experienced his greatest success on a run first team. He was the one example you should NOT have used.

Total Passing is like Total Defense, misleading stat. The question is can you throw it in the end zone, Seattle was 10th in TD passes last year.

That isn't an answer for Rodgers or Manning both are still in the running to win a Super Bowl this year.

New England's last Super Bowl was 2004 and while I will admit in the early 2000's defense and running was the plan, it isn't now.

Not really, the Hawks weren't a passing team. What it shows is that when they went to pass they could be effective off play action. However their gameplan was establish the LOS, feed beast most, and roll out Wilson off of that.

To say that Seattle could sling it around at will is folly.

That is an answer for Rodgers and Manning as neither have won a Superbowl without those two defining factors of a team. You HAVE to be able to run the ball and you HAVE to be able to play defense. It's that simple.

Again, it clearly is the plan now as that what makes San Fran and Seattle successful. You think it was Cam Newton that took the Panthers to a 12 win season?

The gmen won 2 superbowls on the back of an elite Dline and dependable run game.

The Steelers won 2 superbowls with an elite pass rush and a steady QB.

The teams you reference are complete teams with very good QB's. If you put Manning on the Jags that offense is still going to struggle.

  • "I can't even believe we still won with how I played" - Brian Hoyer

I love hearing that from him, and he is 100% right. He has got to play better than he has in recent weeks if we are going to make the playoffs, and he has to play much, much better if we're going to win a playoff game.

With all of our injuries on both sides of the ball, he is going to have to be lights out as a game manager, and get back to the way he played early in the season when he never turned the ball over.

He's right. He played bad and he realizes it. His play lately hasn't been good. But, he was able to make another game winning drive.

Winners win and he's a winner. Don't care if he's dead last in every stat.

    This is key.

But from what I'm seeing from BH is that stats don't really matter . . . it all comes down to the W or L.

This is in essence is the "IT" factor, and BH definitely has that - probably as much as Brian Sipe did.

  • We should get Cam back next week, as well as another week of work of Puffy and Brian getting on the same page. Our defense has to keep finding ways to keep the opposing team under 20.

The fact that there are QBs filling the #1-4 slots in TD passes proves it's a passing league?

Well three of the five top TD scorers are RBs... Lynch, Thomas, Charles, Cobb and Foster...

Don''t confuse him with facts T, he want's shanny to throw the ball 60 times, after all, it's 2014, and he can do it on Madden.

Agree with you and USF, but I am bothered that today I saw for the first time, multiple mental errors from Brian. Not used to that...

The mental game is BH's lone edge over JM. That has been the "it" I have seen. If his mental game continues to wane, then change will come.

I'll be 100% honest T, I've been growing more concerned with Brian as the last few weeks have gone by. Not Stockton level, but my patience is beginning to grow thin. At first I blamed it on all of the injuries, but now I wonder aloud if it's not more of a "Brian now has film" issue, where the defense has a game plan now to take advantage of his tendencies? Just thinking out loud here.

That's why posted I the Hoyer to Gordon stats earlier (or another thread).

Not playing together since Pre-Season (when there were a bunch of other issues involved as well), there's no way Hoyer & Gordon are on the same page right now - 8 for 16 to Gordon as well as at least two INT's in his direction.

I really expected worse, since the other WR's were basically going to have to play different positions/routes with Gordon coming in at the #1 spot.

Seriously, the WR's have been playing 10 weeks at pretty much different positions and now they all have to shuffle to accommodate Gordon - I'm surprised they did as well as they did.

And with Hoyer having a legit #1 huge target in Gordon, yeah, it's no surprise he wanted to get the ball to him . . . hell, even at 50% completion to Gordon he had 120yds.

Concerning yes, but you still have to account for the loss of Mack, which we've seen via the run game is a huge impact.

McDonald is still getting up to speed, and it's only been three or four weeks for him to be in the Live mix of things.

  • john telich ‏@JohnTelich8 12m12 minutes ago With a 7-4 start, Mike Pettine has the fourth-best start by a #Browns coach in his first 11 NFL games. Paul Brown opened 9-2 in 1950

Yea J, I get that, but I'm concerned most about his accuracy on plays with little to no pressure and an open receiver. Add in today's brain farts (especially the pic in the endzone, that was death penalty bad) and that's my concerns. I admire the guy, and am rooting for him, but he simply has to play much better for us to win the division.
