All of us Hoyer backers should admit one thing...
-
After the 2nd pick at the end of the game we were over him, admit it. I was incredulous after the pick in the endzone, you don't throw that ball up in there to a guy you've only had a few practice sessions with and no game time this year...Brees can get away with a throw like that if he's putting it up to Graham. After the last pick I was like "I'm done with Hoyer that's it". I'll admit it. That last pick was so fucking bad I just put down my beer and said I'm done with you Brian, this thing just isn't working out for both of us. lol
So now that he brought the team back with some amazing throws, i have to temper my original emotional outburst because yet again he showed what he can do when he's under the gun. What I'm debating in my own head right now is how much leash does he have? When i came back from the bars I rewatched the game to see if the picks were really as bad as they looked when I had a beer in my hand and a bunch of people around me yelling....and actually they kind of looked worse. I thought "maybe" that last pick was some kind of misunderstanding with Gordon about where the route would be broken off....but even if Gordon curved that route off early, you still don't throw the fucking ball that far from the sideline. That ball ALWAYS goes to the sideline, just a matter of how deep down the sideline. Horrible throw. Horrible decision. The pick before that, as I said....this wasn't Brees to Graham, Gordon was obviously not thinking Hoyer was gonna loft that ball up to him as he was completely flat footed. Those improvised plays come from two guys who've spent alot of time playing pitch and catch to each other that they know what the others thinking. I know some of the announcers were like Gordon didn't go up for it blah blah....but you can't fault him it's his first game back and he has had zero field time with Hoyer prior to this week. Hoyer was looking for a hero toss and Gordon to bail him out.
So right now i'm debating, if I was Pettine, is Hoyer on a half to half leash right now? If Hoyer goes out and throws stupid balls up in the air against Buffalo....do the Browns say fuck it get in there Johhny? Cause as awesome as that comeback was....Hoyer had enough stupid throws and frankly again alot of awful behind the receiver throws to make me think he needs to sit a half to reflect on things if this shit keeps up. Being off the mark is one thing...I though the Houston game he was off, but not horrific. And in that Houston game he showed how fucking tough as balls he is when he ate two Cushing teabaggings and came back up slinging. Not many guys in the NFL can take two shots like that and then make some of those throws in hurry up mode. So I don't say this half by half shit lightly.....but these dumbfuck throws gotta stop. They kill us.
-
Every QB makes bad throws and stupid throws. Hoyer has kept the dumb throws to a minimum this year. He had a poopy game, then cleaned up his mess and lead the team to another game winning drive. I still stand on my opinion he has the intangibles and mentality to be a good-great QB. Did you see post game quotes? His teammates love him and have a lot of faith in him. He took accountability and takes great pride in his work. Hoyer is not on any kind of leash

I read the first sentence and agreed. Laughed at the thought of reading this fucking thesis. Keep it to a few sentences asshole.

what does "takes fear pride in his work" mean?
So he's on no leash with you? If those dumb throws come out next week against Buffalo and this time it costs us the game....you don't wanna see Johnny? I'm still debating it. I'll give myself till tuesday than I'll make a firm commitment. It's possible I give him next weeks game when he's had two weeks to work with Gordon.

Great pride*... Typo autocorrect.

The game in general had me questioning hoyer, that last drive helps. The throw was dumb but its not like he fell apart under the pressure, because he came right back with more pressure and illustrated ANOTHER fantastic game winning drive.
That being said he seems to have some serious accuracy issues that continue to come up. Very erratic, sometimes he is right on point, others he is WAY off. Hopefully he can get it under control, but it seems like a recurring theme with him.

Right, like I can't beleive how laser accurate he is on one throw...and then how much he looks like that fucking ginger we had here last year who's name I will not mention. He makes some of these shit throws with completely clean pockets and throwing lanes...I don't get it.

Let's be clear , I am a huge fan and supporter of Hoyer. I am so far from a Manziel fan a gps couldn't get me there. On top it all though I am a Browns fan. The mental aspect of the game involving good decisions are Hoyers strong suit. I'm all honesty over the last two weeks against two very bad defenses he's been very bad. So many throws bad enough you can't figure out where he was throwing. I hope he snaps out of it because I do not believe In Manziel. You can say he brought us back and he did but shit Gordon should have had 250 yds and multiple scores today with decent throws.

Hard to argue, and I feel the same about Brian. Regarding Johnny, I have hope that if he needed to go in tonight, he could do a decent job.

Sorry, can't because I was not there... I was not over BH. I believed he would lead us to the winning FG... said so in the Tavern at the time... and he did.
But I do wholeheartedly agree with the 2nd bit.
The mental aspect of the game involving good decisions are Hoyers strong suit. (In) all honesty over the last two weeks against two very bad defenses he's been very bad. So many throws bad enough you can't figure out where he was throwing. I hope he snaps out of it because I do not believe In Manziel.
And that's the choice in a nutshell: Mental capability vs. Physical talent.
Hoyer's mental edge won him the job and has kept him in the job despite physical limitations and lapses. Remember when turnovers seemed to be a foreign concept? Something for the other 31 teams to concern themselves with?
But those lapses have seemed to accelerate (I believe due to footwork issues) and now we've seen his first game with multiple mental errors primarily centered around hooking up with Gordo.
Now another week of practice... another week of coaches in his ear to ward him away from "too much Josh" in film sessions... then maybe the mental gets back in line.
However, if the mental errors continue, then there is no longer a choice to be made.

That in a nutshell is the Hoyer enigma. Last 40 seconds of the game, he looks like John Elway. That pick in the endzone, where he should have thrown it into the seats? Not so much.

As usual, the voice of reason speaks. Yup, not only mental errors- but some plain bad high school throws on deep patterns. Every qb misses on some deep bombs- Ryan had a few- but holy cow, All Brian had to do was get the ball in the same area code as Gordon, and we wouldn't be talking about a nail biter.

Hoyer is a game manager that can't afford to make mistakes. He has a putrid completion percentage and picks up the brunt of his yardage on deep throws were guys are wide open. He is not the answer for the browns at qb. The Browns won in spite of him today AND it did help that mike smith might be mentally Retarded.
