All of us Hoyer backers should admit one thing...

  • After the 2nd pick at the end of the game we were over him, admit it. I was incredulous after the pick in the endzone, you don't throw that ball up in there to a guy you've only had a few practice sessions with and no game time this year...Brees can get away with a throw like that if he's putting it up to Graham. After the last pick I was like "I'm done with Hoyer that's it". I'll admit it. That last pick was so fucking bad I just put down my beer and said I'm done with you Brian, this thing just isn't working out for both of us. lol

So now that he brought the team back with some amazing throws, i have to temper my original emotional outburst because yet again he showed what he can do when he's under the gun. What I'm debating in my own head right now is how much leash does he have? When i came back from the bars I rewatched the game to see if the picks were really as bad as they looked when I had a beer in my hand and a bunch of people around me yelling....and actually they kind of looked worse. I thought "maybe" that last pick was some kind of misunderstanding with Gordon about where the route would be broken off....but even if Gordon curved that route off early, you still don't throw the fucking ball that far from the sideline. That ball ALWAYS goes to the sideline, just a matter of how deep down the sideline. Horrible throw. Horrible decision. The pick before that, as I said....this wasn't Brees to Graham, Gordon was obviously not thinking Hoyer was gonna loft that ball up to him as he was completely flat footed. Those improvised plays come from two guys who've spent alot of time playing pitch and catch to each other that they know what the others thinking. I know some of the announcers were like Gordon didn't go up for it blah blah....but you can't fault him it's his first game back and he has had zero field time with Hoyer prior to this week. Hoyer was looking for a hero toss and Gordon to bail him out.

So right now i'm debating, if I was Pettine, is Hoyer on a half to half leash right now? If Hoyer goes out and throws stupid balls up in the air against Buffalo....do the Browns say fuck it get in there Johhny? Cause as awesome as that comeback was....Hoyer had enough stupid throws and frankly again alot of awful behind the receiver throws to make me think he needs to sit a half to reflect on things if this shit keeps up. Being off the mark is one thing...I though the Houston game he was off, but not horrific. And in that Houston game he showed how fucking tough as balls he is when he ate two Cushing teabaggings and came back up slinging. Not many guys in the NFL can take two shots like that and then make some of those throws in hurry up mode. So I don't say this half by half shit lightly.....but these dumbfuck throws gotta stop. They kill us.

I guess it's part of the psychology of Browns fans to instantly hate-yank-fire whoever happens to be screwing things up at the moment.

I had hoped that a winning record and a few days in first place in the division would have cured yinz of that.

    Thanks for your thoughtful reply.

I have not had a cup of coffee for several weeks now, so I must be due.

  • What I've said all along fellas. We all enjoy Browns football and know the game a little bit. It's clear Hoyer has flaws that easily could land him out of Cleveland next year. He played lousy for sure, but the last 44 seconds of that game is something you can't teach in a QB.

But you know what? The Browns are 7-4 with the dude under center. We're playing winning football for the first time in nearly a decade and there's no reason to mix it up. The only thing I hope for this week is Shanny understanding it's time to pound the rock 30-35 times.

Right, like I can't beleive how laser accurate he is on one throw...and then how much he looks like that fucking ginger we had here last year who's name I will not mention. He makes some of these shit throws with completely clean pockets and throwing lanes...I don't get it.

That in a nutshell is the Hoyer enigma. Last 40 seconds of the game, he looks like John Elway. That pick in the endzone, where he should have thrown it into the seats? Not so much.

Why did we not run it at them? First and goal was it? We had just gouged them running it for most of that drive, we wanted to eat clock, why the fuck did we not run it up the gut?! I hated that play the moment it was snapped. Sometimes Kyle pisses me off. Maybe Hoyer, too?

Okay....I admit I was losing all confidence in Hoyer. Still...had we lost this game, it would be the first that we could say "Hoyer lost the game". The other losses were combined efforts....but this one would have been different. When Manziel comes in, I hope he does well, and I will support him until he proves that he's not capable. We need to remember two things with Hoyer...he is really in a rookie season as a starter. In comparison, every good qb has had similar inconsistent play. The other thing is....Hoyer is coming off a very serious injury. We don't think about it because he doesn't remind us of it. He's a gamer and the best qb we've had since 1999. Either way....winning is the most important statistic. The JF fans who love to quote Hoyer's poor stats always fail to mention the most important one. I'm hoping Hoyer will improve and correct the mistakes.

    Crystal lol.

Actually, at halftime I uttered "time for Johnny" for the first time all year. Glad as hell we won, but holy shit we tried to give it away.

Hoyer is driving me nuts with not stepping up in the pocket and back peddling all the time. You can't get away with back-foot throws all the time.

That being said, I don't think he is on a short leash at all. He will only be replaced if we fall out of the playoff picture, or an injury. Somehow, when the chips are down, Hoyer has gotten it done in crunch time (NO, Tenn, TB, Atl).

  • Hoyer even said he was surprised that they won despite his poor play.

He got it right in time to win the game. That's classy, tough minded,

and a lot of leadership that inspires this Browns offense.

  • Tour on Hoyer's mentality: Let's hope Hoyer has now calmed down with the return of his star WR, and starts using his head again vs Buffalo. Lesson learned vs Altanta, praise Jeebus they didn't lose it!

Everyone screws up, and QBs screw-ups are most blatant to everyone. I was frustrated with Hoyer's play, but not calling for his head. He still won us the game, even if he should not have been given the chance by Atlanta's horrible clock management. It was still clutch time at that point, and he came through.

Vag's statements: I'll agree with 95% of what you posted in this thread. The only part I disagree is I still won't be so harsh on Hoyer. (EDIT: That could be the homer in me. Lol.)

  • George would you give us another first round pick for him?

And a dozen wings and a couple OVs from Frank and Teresa's?

With this current Regime, ANYTHING is possible.

I would have Farmer call ASAP before Whaley & Company are fired..

I've got no problem with the Watkins deal, but Gods sake, draft us a fucking QB somewhere in that draft. We are stuck with a physical specimen of a QB who can't throw for shit, and an old washed up back up..

    We are fucked right now...

I thought EJ had the potential to be decent coming out, more so than Geno Smith anyway.I see his career ending up like Jason Campbell's though. Journeyman backup.

Despite the fact you guys don't have a 1st round pick, I think there's some good prospects out there that could either be traded up for or had in the 2nd. Or you guys could just pursue someone like Hoyer, who knows.

I usually root for buffalo, but because we have your pick I hope Vick stuffs you guys tonight. And of course I hope Hoyer tosses it for 400 YDs, 8TDs for the NFL record next week.

Can we hire that homeless guy as our new GM and director of scouting?

    It WILL be an improvement.

    ???

New GM?.....I thought you guys were pleased as punch with last years draft??? After all, he fleeced us and got you best WR everrr. Right?

So, why replace the guy that did that????

  • For the record I root for Buffalo if the Browns arent playing them. And I'd like to have a higher draft pick but even more I'd hope we pick a diamond in the rough with the one we get. That's better than rooting for Michael fucking Vick.

    WSS

  • True. And on top of that no powerhouse team drafts a quarterback in the first round. You complicate things by expecting the rookie to make chicken salad out of chicken shit. I'm glad we didn't do that. I am hoping the team improves enough that the addition of an above average quarterback (assuming that's what Johnny is or that brian steps up) will take us to the playoffs and beyond. The least we can hope for is the team be good enough to be respectable with a mediocre quarterback which is more than we've had.

You guys are doing right by Johnny Manziel, trust me...

All you have to do is look around. The Jets have ruined the careers of many QBs along the way. They have utterly destroyed Geno, and Sanchez.

Aaron Rodgers sat for three years, and bingo, a properly developed QB turning into an unquestionable super star..

The Pats are doing the same thing with Jimmy Garappolo. Sitting and learning behind the ultimate master in Brady.

    Buffalo? We ruin QBs here...

Thanks George. This makes sense. I could not stand JF. But the longer he sits learns and gets physically stronger before being thrown into a situation way to big for him is slowly putting a grin on my face. Finally the BROWNS have reached for a Franchise qb and are doing the old school grooming that almost no rookie receives anymore. If he's as great and Destin as some fanboys wanna believe then him sitting for 1 little year is going to put himlight years ahead of all qbs in his class

  • George C said:

Are you living under a rock?

Reaching for EJ as a starter with NO back up plan? Big problem with that here in Buffalo. They signed the glass princess Kolb as their QB last year?

Nobody has a problem with getting Watkins. He is a generational WR playing without a QB, but not grooming him correctly? No other QB drafted this year with a huge ? over EJ, because they didn't want to break his confidence??

Hiring Marrone on the cheap as per Ralph Wilson?

Wasting a 2nd on a bust tackle with cement feet in Koundjio?

We came away with Alonso last year, but that was another single hit year.

Money is no object with the Pegulas. They spend it like they are going to the electric chair. Mega wealthy in oil and gas rights and property development. They can buy and sell Donald Trump's net worth at will. Expect an actual coach and GM here next year to straighten out this sess pool. Most are guessing the return of Bill Polian with the possibility of luring a big name back out of the booth to coach.

You weren't addressing me were you?

    WSS

  • Ok

  • the browns QB situation is STILL up in the air with these performances of hoyer vs. these scrub teams. one week he plays like montana the next like geno smith. BUT what are the browns supposed to do when they are winning? change QBs to see what they got in the kid?

this is the problem with the hoyer vs. manziel thing: what happens if we let hoyer walk in free agency and they find out that manziel is not ready next year, again? so they let someone walk who was still better than the person who is suppose to take his place? and they start the kid to his detriment and he is not capable of playing in the NFL. so here comes a year of regressing and not winning as many games as this year and the FO all of a sudden is in QB mode for the draft in 2016.

it would be foolish to let hoyer walk. he knows the browns offense, has chemistry with it's players and is a winner no matter how bad he has played. just think what he could do next year when people return healthy, with a revamped and seasoned OL, a new influx of weapons on offense (if needed) and a defense that can stop the run.

man you ride this horse 'til it drops.

  • oh and to the JF fan who stated in one of these threads about the QBs coming out this year aren't as good as manziel....

    i say bullshit.

  • George if you were given you a choice would you take Johnny or Brian?
