Courtney Clowney?

The Browns Board

  • I agree. I wouldn't say bust at all. That will spell out out in another few years, if so.

  • Clowney a complete bust? I guess by those metrics Gilberts a complete bust too. Way way way too early to speculate if Clowneys a bust. If that knee surgery is still leftover from him stepping in a hole. He told a teammate on the field when it happened too, so it's not like him making an excuse later.

  • Most overhyped draft prospect of all time.

  • Wasn't Clowney hurt before the draft? Texans were pressured into the pick I believe when Khalil Mack was the better player. My Fantasy league on ESPN is called Clowney The Circus Centerpiece. How phrophetic! And I thought the Browns wasted their two first round picks.

Who knows if he can stay healthy?

No way Walter. That title probably belongs to juicer Tony Mandarich. I watched the 30\30 on Brian Bosworth, and the guy did have a fantastic college career- but talk about mega bust in the pros.

There was a lot of hype, especially after the rb handoff sack. But I didn't see a lot of positive hype either. I saw a lot of questions and a huge flag when his college coach didn't even back him.

  • I read today that Clowney will be out for the remainder of the season with knee surgery.

    Complete bust.

Posts like this infuriate me. He lost his season to injury and he's a bust? I think we need to see the guy play more than a couple games before he's labeled as anything.

Walter meant today, in this thread Clowney is the most overhyped ever.

Defensive Lines with 2 HOF players:

1975 Rams with Jack Youngblood and Merlin Olsen

1975 Oilers Curley Culp and Elvin Bethea

Defensive backfields with 2 or more HOFers:

1960 Lions had Dick LeBeau, Yale Lary and Night Train Lane in the same DB corps, all Hall of Famer.

Culp also played on the same line for years in KC with HOF'er Buck Bucannon.

    Aside:

I wonder if LeBeau will make it into the HOF as a coach as well...

Other than Halas, and a couple other pioneer players, who coincidentally played and coached, I'm not aware of any making it both as a player and a Coach in separate careers. Also not sure if even Halas was inducted twice...

Also not aware of any coaches other than Head Coaches in the Hall... Are there any?

I don't think you get inducted twice for player & coach, once you are in ... you are in.

Did you know .... Buck Buchanon was an assistant coach for the Browns in the 70's?

He imposed a large figure on the sideline.

    Zombo

  • If I ever knew Buck was a CLE assistant, I'd long forgotten it...

On the hall.. It doesn't seem right to not get a 2nd jacket for a 2nd career.

Especially since most HOF players have not fared well as Head Coaches: Norm van Brocklin, Bart Starr, Singletary, and Munchak to name a few.

Others fared better: Gregg, Ditka, Berry, and Shell.

    Go Buckeyes...

  • Thought Clowney would be a bust before he was ever drafted....and PRAYED that we wouldn't draft him.....

It's too early to call him a bust, but Id say he is headed the way I expected.....

I see him as a soft, fragile, non committed, puffed up prospect without any real football instincts.....

Big Money two. Laziness never gets anywhere in the NFL.

    Yes, I noted that above

    Aside:

I wonder if LeBeau will make it into the HOF as a coach as well... No assistant coach has ever been inducted into the HOF. (If any were, he would be like my first choice)

Other than Halas, and a couple other pioneer players, who coincidentally played and coached, I'm not aware of any making it both as a player and a Coach in separate careers. Also not sure if even Halas was inducted twice...

No one has been inducted twice, in separate ceremonies. Halas was inducted as coach/contribut

Also not aware of any coaches other than Head Coaches in the Hall... Are there any?

    see above.
