I don't think it's ridiculous given our opponents, the Bengals passing game is shaky and given our defense is pretty much unstoppable vs the pass, rough day for Dalton. The Bengals D is also a shell of its former self.

The panthers will probably trott out Derek Anderson and a defense that also is below expectations.

The ravens will be the toughest, but their secondary is pretty weak and missing Ngata only helps.

I think we're the better team in the next 3, but it isn't that simple in the NFL.

I think 10-6 can get us there.

Finishing 3-0 automatically knocks out Bengals from WC assuming they lose to demver, and ravens if they drop 1 to the jags or Houston.

    Bills won't finish 10-6.

Chargers need 2-1 against a tough remaining 3 (Denver, SF, KC) (losing to Denver and SF preferred)

we'd really benefit if the raiders could rise up to beat the chiefs, then the chiefs beat Pitt.

Texans have to get through the colts...

Dolphins have to get through NE

We aren't out, we need 10-6 to get there.

  • If we finish 3-0, we have a VERY good chance of getting into the playoffs...

For the Wild Card we need:

+1 loss by MIA (@NE, MIN, NYJ), AND

    +1 loss by BUF(GB, @OAK, @NE), AND

+1 loss by HOU (@IND, BAL, JAX)

For the Division Crown we need:

+1 loss by PIT (@ATL, KC, CIN), AND

    +2 loss by CIN (@CLE, DEN, @PIT)

That's the way the schedules play out...

And these scenarios are NOT unrealistic...

    Go Browns!!!

Does anyone honestly see this playing out?

Turns out my bleary-eyed, playoff-scenario analysis was a tad off. I mean what were the chances of that @ 03:30... 😉

Cinci must lose two as they have a 1.5 game lead on us.

PTG, however, need only lose one, if that loss is to Cinci.

    Better? 🙂

Cinci losing two is quite possible.

Pit losing one is possible as well.

Now all we need to do is win out . . . yeah, that's all 🙂

  • I actually think he is going to destroy the Bengals. The kid always seemed to excel under pressure and if you gave him any ammo to work with (like Marvin Lewis), then it even sparked him more.

I can see him accounting for 2-3 TD and having a 200 pass, 75 yard run game.

    ??????

    gonna wreck cinci alright.

  • Just found this, summarizes the Playoff picture for the Browns :

    http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NFL/AFC/AFCNorth/Cleveland.html

Chart's a little hard to read (link is clearer), but at 10-6 we have an 82.8% chance to make the Playoffs.

Seems a lot more 7-5 Teams lost last week than I realized - I thought there were a lot more 8-5 Teams ahead of us.

Still, there's that winning out thing ahead of us . . .

    EDIT :

That chart didn't post right, so you'll have to look at it on the link.

guys-he's still a rookie with far less experience than all those other struggling rookie QB's he came in with and is now 13 games behind. Winning 3 of 3 is asking a bit much, but showing some real promise, mistakes and all, is about the best we can expect this late in the season for a new QB in the NFL. Now if the D does what they did for Hoyer in all 3 of those games, then it is likely we win them all. But that was the best defensive effort in at least a decade. I know it was the right decision to give Hoyer one more chance, but damn JFF would have buried them with the field positions they kept delivering time after time.

Showing promise compared to Hoyer would be completing 60% of his throws and scoring a TD in 1 out of 15 drives. (I could say 1 out of 28 but that would still be awful). The bar has been set *THAT* low and yet the Browns staff reluctantly had to make the switch to Johnny. There are about 25 other QBs in the league that would have likely gotten the Browns to the playoffs with the D fielded each game.

They said on NFL network this morning that... it was not so much that JF won the position as BH lost it with the worst QB play in the league over that time period.

I'm under the impression that cinci isn't that good, despite their record.

I wish I knew what happened to Brian.

Some guys talk about how his picks earlier this year were just dropped, not more so than what any other QB gets though IMO (maybe he has a couple more picks, but he went so long without throwing any it wouldn't have been too awful). Then they talk about the safety playing in the box killing the run game, but I don't buy into that too

bb, how many times have we gone back and forth on every member of the AFCN this season? I've lost count and given up.

Pre-season it was all CIN and PTG sucked with BLT and us somewhere in between. Then our run game came on and CIN lost Gio and Geno and Burfect and looked ordinary while PTG heated up. Then Mack goes down and CIN goes into NO and blows the Saints away and the Steelers keep on chuggin' until the Saints visit Heinz???

One crazy AFCN year... and the above is an oversimplified accounting.

As for Brian... none of tha external stuff withstands scrutiny IMO. Physical injury or in his head?

    Flip a coin...

    ... then turn the page.

  • I'm just happy that rooting against Pittsburgh directly benefits us in December 😄

  • I thought PIT had to lose two games, or one game as long as it was CIN? I read that somewhere else here.

    Yes...

Step One: We win out... then...

If PTG loses to CIN and we end up tied with PTG, we win the tie by having the better divisional record.

But if PTG beats CIN, then Divisional Records tie and the tie-break moves onto "Record against common opponents" and we cannot win that tie-breaker vs PTG.

TO BREAK A TIE WITHIN A DIVISION

If, at the end of the regular season, two or more clubs in the same division finish with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined.

    Two Clubs

1.Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).

2.Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.

3.Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.

4.Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.

    Three or More Clubs

(Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated during any step, tie breaker reverts to step 1 of the two-club format).

1.Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games among the clubs).

2.Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.

3.Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.

4.Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.

    ^This

  • Finishing 10-6 is also fairly favorable for the wild card possibilities, the other contenders have some tough games left.

Since the league went to 12 teams in the playoffs in 1990 or 1991 only 9 teams that went 10-6 have not made the playoffs. One was the 2007 Browns. (and the only 11-5 team to not make the playoffs were the 2008 Patriots)
