Microfracture is a last resort type of thing. And very very risky to the structure of the bone. Greg Ogden is a great example. You are basically damaging(drilling & fracturing) the bone, to create new cartilage growth through healing. Problem is that it doesnt always work and then the bone is fucked....and it is usually used when the body doesn't heal properly on its own...so, the risk is greater, because healing is the key element needed....
So, people who dont heal well get this surgery, but need to heal well for it to work.....makes sense....not
Finally, it requires an extremely disciplined rehabilitation for full recovery.....a full 8 hours days of work to be part of the 68% percent "success" rate.....and Clowney aint the hardest worker or most driven guy, so thats a big question mark right there
The list of people who have had this surgery and returned to their previous form is very short. The list of people who have had it and then been a shadow of their previous selves is long.
For every 1 real success(100% recovery), there are 10 failures
Microfracture is a last resort type of thing. And very very risky to the structure of the bone. Greg Ogden is a great example.
Oden(?... former Buckeye Center) was the example I was trying to think of.
Forgot you knew this stuff...
My first reaction when I read "microfracture" is still to think "condition" and not "treatment".
Why would they jump to this last resort seemingly so quickly?

Probably not healing from his surgery and he has swelling, pain?....no cartilage....remember Sandy Alomar and how he'd get his knees lubed up?
This is a modern versio of that. Except they create cartilage instead of injecting lube. It usually only lasts a year or 2, then wears out and has to be redone.
The Clowney/surgery/recover carousel has just started turning. Around and around it will go.

Didn't Kobe go overseas and have some sort of Blood therapy on his knee. I don't remember specifics but I was thinking that it could help Clowney. Maybe someone will look it up and chime in.

Yeah, Kobe had regenokine treatments, which is nothing like what clowney had. I think Kobe had old arthritic knees. So dont know if it would help Clowney or not, but they aren't available here in the US....only place they do it is Germany(and there is no good evidence it even works)......but you're right about the blood part..... its a treatment that uses your own blood to create a serum that alters your blood chemistry and how your body reacts to injured and arthritic joints. Its supposed to diminish swelling and inflammation, while improving healing.
Sounds a bit out there.....found a lot of stuff saying its pretty questionable science....and other stuff saying it works miracles...hmmm

wow. we got actual doctors and scientists up in here?
shit i thought i was classy being the guy that took out clients to smith and wollensky to get them hammered so they'd sign with us for their campaign.
worse thing to ever happen to me during one of those sessions was to be told by some old grey dying flaky-haired asshole was that "thom darden was such and such a CB for the browns and he was from my hometown" while pointing an old bent wrinkled finger at me. (like i didn't know that).
the shit you do for a sale.
and no i never did that so.......

Told him Rock Hudson was from his hometown.

I remember Clowney before the draft talking shit about how he'd make any team that passed him up regret it. Looks like he's gonna make the team that DID pick him regret it.
