Going to be a lot if disappointed guys in here come start of next season..

So I guess none of you kids noticed that Hoyer played pretty good until Mack went down. Then it was "Bar the door Katie" we couldnt run and didn't have time to pass. We need depth on the line...both sides. The teams that do consistantly good seem to have depth on their lines. You win and lose the game at the line of scrimmage. An old adage yes, but still very true.
Hoyer did appear to play well, but remember there was also a lot of 'only just' moments and should-have-been interceptions. I'm not saying he played badly, but he was hardly Peyton Elway for 4.5 games. He benefited hugely from a very effective rush game opening up all kinds of PAP, and that same OL being excellent in pass protection.

Appear? Like magic? You didn't notice how the whole O turned to shit after Mack left? Maybe you should think like this......It takes a great line for an offense to flourish. A great FA QB like Manning would never come here with the O line we have...period!

'Appear' in that he had a very nice stat line, but that when you look a little closer, he had a lot of missed opportunities, as well as dropped interceptions. He got away with it while we were winning - and that continued even after Mack went down, as we went to 6-3, remember? However, as the luck started to run out with the dropped INTs, and the running game dried up, the missed opportunities and general inaccuracy become more apparent. I'm not saying he played badly, but I don't think he played as well as you seem to believe.
As for our OL, before the freak broken leg, it looked as good as any in the league. I agree depth is needed, though, as after the injury, we had nobody who could step up and play on the interior - Greco to center is all fine and dandy, but only if you have another guy who can come in and play G. We apparently do not, as McQuistan showed. I believe we'll pick up someone in the second/third round, probably an OT that can slide inside to OG in the pros like Bitonio while still offering cover at OT should something happen to Schwartz or (heaven help us) Thomas.
-
Give me a little luck and 10-6 all day long (while on the other side of the luck coin, Hawkins was the No. 1 receiver part of the time, Willis Mcgahee was the No. 1 RB in Hoyer's wins in 2013, one more defensive stop and good Hoyer/bad Hoyer would've been enough at Pitt, vs. Balt, and vs. Indy). How much good luck will we need for JFF to go 10-4 in his next 14 starts?
So, Hoyer can win with a good OL (even though 4 of his wins this year came after Mack went down), and Hoyer can win with a good run game (even though Hoyer's sometimes sucked, but sometimes "figured out ways to win" in games when we've had 0 running game), and Hoyer can "manage" a game well with decent help from Shanny getting his shit right. Good, fine, is it unicorns and show ponies? At least it's a plan and one which is relatively within reach. What's the general game plan to go with what Johnny's shown so far?

If and when Hoyer gets cut, Shaw has got to be first string over Johnny Cocaine, Shaw played against a MUCH MUCH tougher team then either teams johnny played. Johnny made Shaw look like Bernie Kosar.

Hoyer won't be cut. He's a free agent and probably won't be back because I imagine another team will offer him more than we're prepared to pay. I think Johnny fuckwad will be on the roster but he's no way guaranteed the starting job and there will be someone brought in to compete and my guess is that unless he "sees the light" and turns his life around, JFF will not win the starting job here or anywhere else. He doesn't have the make up to do what it takes to be a starting QB. Hoyer has the make up to be that guy but unfortunately, just doesn't have the talent. Very similar to Colt McCoy. Colt has the make up and desire to be a successful starter, just not the talent.

Listening to Pettine and Haslam, it doesn't sound too good for either Manziel or Gordon. I think they're gone. Nothing will happen until after the season but as a Browns fan I won't miss them. Right now I would rather have Geno Smith. At least he can see over the defense.

What do you think we can get for Gordon? Would NE give us a #1 (early 30's)? Can we get a #2? We're not gonna just give him away.
-
Manziel will be on the roster. Hoyer will not. Shaw will likely be the backup, now that he can't be stashed on the practice squad. Shanahan will likely be gone, which means we'll have a new offensive system. Gordon will likely still be on the team as well, unless someone is stupid enough to offer a second rounder.
Hoyer will go to Tennessee or Washington or somewhere like that.
-
I don't see him going to Washington but I could see him in Tennessee or Houston
-
Gordon should be a non issue. He will end up cutting himself. He hasn't made it through an off season yet.

1) Johnny isn't going anywhere. All these people asking farmer to just cut manziel after giving him 6 qtrs or whatever aren't in the real world. As I've said before, you don't evaluate first round quarterbacks by 6 quarters of play. Now is Johnny still a bit immature? Maybe, maybe not....hell if I know. All I know is that next year I expect to see improvement with JF. Whether he goes to clubs or parties or whatever I could care less about. It's almost like some if you guys believe talking about cutting or trading manziel amongst yourselves will make it happen.
2) hoyer is very unlikely(almost a zero percent chance) to be on the roster. Apart from that, he was TERRIBLE this year. That's why he ranked DEAD LAST in most qb rating metrics. JF was bad for 6 qtrs or so- hoyer was bad for almost a whole season. What the hell kind of NFL qb has what....a 54 percent completion rate or whatever it was? Is this 1979? Furthermore unlike with Johnny, we KNOW hoyer will continue to be terrible because he's a backup journeyman who is 30. Manziel may or may not continue to be bad- but at least there is the hope he may improve after he gets more than 6 qtrs. regardless, this Isn't an argument that for manziel vs hoyer because that is no longer a valid discussion right now.
3) in all likelihood, the Qbs going into next year will be 1 manziel, 2 backup journeyman to be named later, and 3 shaw. Because we have other needs and because manziel is going to get his chance, I don't think we spend the money it would cost to bring over someone in the price range of 5-7 million. Think more Jason Campbell type than Kyle orton type.

OMG this is so funny. You hypothesize about Campbell coming back and people on this thread are all flipped out. You're called names and everything else when you only mean that Haslet won't spend the kind of money for that. Why didn't you speculate on Vince Young? He's not doing anything.
You're right though. Immediate needs - wide receiver - O.line - alot of help on the O.line and someone to step up and knock some sense into the 2 first round picks from 2014. I mean knock them silly!

You are joking right? The Ravens are not much much tougher than the Bengals. Watch what Pittsburgh does to them.I went to the Texans Ravens game here in Houston and the Ravens were clueless. Absolutely clueless. Maybe it was Romeo Crennel's D, but they were horrible.

He's called names because the majority of his post makes it seem as if the guy didn't even watch any games this year. If he did watch them he obviously knows nothing about football because most of what he says is just idiotic. Hence his opinions means nothing, and he shouldn't be starting threads spouting such shit.

I'll give ya Hoyer being gone and Johnny is still here. But guess who I'd have my money on starting if it was down to Campbell or "Campbell like" or Johnny. U may be the unhappy Fag when JF isn't just given this team next year.

Lol at anyone who thinks Johnny will amount to anything.... HE IS RYAN LEAF.....
What has he ever shown in his life that shows that he is a leader. He has a weekly incident, a week ago he said he didn't take it serious this year and that he is finally going to make the changes, not even a week later he has to be dragged out of bed... Guess what, he had that same exact issue in college.. Look at what happened with AJ McCarron.
Johnny has to apologize weekly for something idiotic he did. He will never be anything better than average, he doesn't have the discipline to spend the time on his craft like the greats do. He has hated practice his entire life, and has never learned more than half a playbook, never watches game film. Its all well documented. Do you think he is all of a sudden going to be as dedicated to studying as the greats? No.
He is selfish, he never talks about the Browns, he only talks about "I" and "Me"
He has had 20 plus red flags in less than 2 years that again, have all been documented. He is a cancer, and will only continue to bring the team down. There are 52 players on the team that actually care and 1 that doesn't. He is costing the other 52 players a chance at success in their dreams.
Winning in the NFL is hard, and is this a guy that can walk into the huddle and really have the support of his team mates? Does he really have the respect of them? Do they really believe he is giving his all at every practice?
I heard a player talking about how hard it is to win in the NFL.... It's hard to win when you are going against another team, let alone when you are having to battle issues in your locker room or with other players. You can't win when you are fighting yourself and your opponent and Johhny makes the team have to fight themselves because of who he is and what he is

Not sure how some of you guys can get so worked up about next season when this one ended 2 days ago. Take a couple of weeks off, let the smoke clear from this season (was going to say something about Gordon's ride, but....). just R.E.L.A.X

Hoyer is mediocre at his best but that was enough to keep us in the playoff picture until the O-line collapsed, bringing in someone elses secondhand trash at QB like say cutler isnt going to improve the browns any at all but is garuanteed to set us back and JF nor shaw will be able to get it done..
My honest evaluation of the situation is the brass needs to find a way to bring hoyer back in the fold, afterall he is technically the rightful starting QB and the best we have had in a long time until someone can "legitimately" beat him out..
Getting some WR talent and a durable TE around hoyer would be a good start, along with replacing scwartz..
