I don't mind Shanny. There should have been better depth behind Mack. If the running game works, even a middling QB like Hoyer can operate this offense successfully.

By the end of the year we had tiny QBs throwing to tiny wrs, we looked like a college team, that's not his fault.

I'd like to see this offense a second season with a healthy/improved O-Line, better QBing and real receivers.

If he leaves, fine, not good for Johnny though. This offense was tailor made for Johnny if we go to a vertical attack we might as well trade him.

    Agree, Z...

Our O-line adapted to the ZBS much better than I thought they would. Given the choice of a new OC and scheme, or Shanny year-2, then I'll take the latter.

Thats true. Just think if we get another Offensive Coordinator. JFF will take another year plus to learn it....

The offense we were in almost all year was certainly not tailored for Johnny Manziel. They changed up the game plan when they put him in against Cincinnati. (which I think fucked up the rest of the team) The run first offense was designed to take the spotlight off of Brian Hoyer. When the running game kicked ass it was good enough.

No idea why a vanilla run offense wouldn't be a good idea especially if there were a few changes of pace for a quarterback scramble or something like that.

i think tailoring anything for manziel at this point, is not goint to happen.

manziel and gordon are on thinner ice than an ice fisherman on the hudson.

one more screw up from either of them and you can count them GONE.

I agree & that certainly didn't help Johnny either.

Let's get Peyton Manning to retire and become our oc. Rumor has it he's been looking at properties in Strongsville.

Of course he had a different game plan for Hoyer than Manziel.

But the zone blocking, play-action offense works well with someone of Manziel's skillset.

A vertical passing game, like we had with Norv Turner, would not.

I am confident Shannahan could design an offense around Johnny. Whether Johnny is going to be prepared enough, good enough, and mentally engaged enough to be an NFL success is another thing.

Let's hope so. I hope Shanny is back.

Except... with Manziel the fakes shifted to read-option looks out of the pistol from the drop back, "ball on hip" ball skills Hoyer showed. The change produced far less effective fakes. In the Buffalo game JM was effective ball faking on drop backs... at least for one drive.

Ha!..Peyton and his family are buddies with Jimmy Haslam, who is a Tennessee fanatic and supporter. Someday this could actually happen....you never know

Which is another reason Im not 100% sold on the whole Haslam/Manziel manlove thing....Because of their association, I've always thought of mr button down Peyton Manning as being Haslems kind of guy, not jff

I keep reading these Shanahan reports, but agree that they all seem to be Mike Shanahan and not Kyle. So a lot of these posts are confusing to me, as I've not seen anything about Kyle(our shanahan) talking to anyone or anyone requesting permission....

which leads to lateral moves VS upward moves......

I dont think Kyle can leave or even be interviewed for another OC job while he's under contract(lateral move)....unless the Browns give permission....so, even if his Dad does score a job, he cant just up and go there unless we release him from his contract.....

I do, however, think he can interview or accept a HC job, because its an upward move.....so, IF another team is talking to him, it's about HC not OC.....

    Yeah...there is that.

As for Kyle... stepping back into Daddy's shadow would be a terrible career move. He would be hard-pressed to come up with a worse one.

Yep.....I dont see any upside either.....and can see a lot of reasons why he and Daddy shouldn't go there.....

No smoke. No fire. Just media speculation.
