Cardale was building campfires and toasting marshmallows on 3rd and longs because OU DC was so stupid as to never apply any pressure and mostly wasted a LB in middle zone just twiddling his thumbs. Almost every 3rd and long they rushed only 3 which was ridiculous. That does not make him a great QB, but it would give me pause as HC to fire one DC who had a horrible game plan. #15 was the difference in the game. OU D was worn out chasing phantoms on 3rd and longs most of the first half so he just ran all over them as the game wore on.
Well, when they rushed Cardale, he either moved in the pocket- or ran them over- including that 315 pound nose tackle. But- if they were dropping 8, he also made some pinpoint bombs into tight coverage. That laser he tossed over the middle through the Oregon D has to be one of the most amazing throws I've ever seen- college or Pros.
If the Buckeyes hadn't had 4 turnovers- this game would have been an embarrassing blowout.

Meyer was a terror in the SEC - 2 championships (including 1 against OSU). After the first Oregon drive he got smart and played containment football. Hold the outside with the ends, squeeze with linebackers and let the stretched out O line deal with the tackles. Mario had no place to go. He is a brilliant strategist and since he mellowed after his heart issue, he has become an even better coach. Great game and hats off to OSU.

Until the Big 12 minus 2 has a real end of season championship game it will not work for them unless one of those teams goes undefeated or they switch to an 8 team playoff. Their commissioner is doggedly stating they will not add teams nor have a championship game. Until then, this will not be a fair system for that league.

A lot of the throws in the Oregon offense are timing based. They may be "simple" but the throw has to be quick and decisive or else it's incomplete or worse. Use your brain here it's not hard to understand. Of course I'm sure you are still too consumed about the fact DA was 2-0 as a starter this year.

You know DA almost came back to Cleveland with Chud, but he decided he'd rather be the backup in Carolina than the starter in Cleveland. Until the Big 12 commissioner stops being moronic about not having a championship game I won't feel bad about them being left out in similar circumstances. The selection group made it patently clear that in close decisions a true conference championship game carries a ton of weight and is the reason OSU moved up. It's not hard, there's about 35 million football teams in Texas just add a couple and call it a day.
