I always thought with Frye they were trying to get the rothlisberger like draft pick magic and it failed badly

dont see the comparison really, but ok. Maybe if they wanted a Roethlesberger like pick they should have gone for a highly rated first rounder(like Ben was), instead of a no name 3rd rounder(like Frye).

Not a damn thing wrong with that question. Charlie was something of an experiment. Very successful quarterback at the University of Akron in the MAC. I've often wondered how a guy it was considered good enough to start became absolutely useless to the team halfway through one game. There must have been something else going on but I don't know. I always like charlie of course I'm an Akron University alumni.

Might have had something to do with his 18 other starts over the prior two seasons...

Charlie was the hometown story that I rooted for. There were moments when I thought he just might be the guy. More than his arm I think it was his decision making (or lack thereof) that sent him packing. He held the ball too long and took too many sacks. He took five in his last half for the Browns.

I think you hit on it there. In fact, a number of MAC QBs were doing well. Marshal was in the MAC when both Pennington and Leftwich were there. Gradkowski from Toledo had some run. Charlie Batch is a MAC guy.
At one time at the same time briefly the MAC had 4 starting QBs in the NFL: BR, Frye, Leftwich, Pennington

Charlie Frye was the greatest Browns QB of all time

of course it had something to do with the accumulated work but still if you are good enough to be chosen as starter and 30 minutes later you aren't worth anything, that's a pretty big and sudden drop. That's all I'm saying. I felt the same way you did. He was the Brian Hoyer of his day.

the comparison is 2 ohio kids playing their HS and college careers in-state in MAC programs.

Frye was just a wigger wannabe.

Please Westside Steve, read the opening London brown's quote and if all you had to work with was that, refer to LBC Mike next. We had no clue but there was some good shit in England.. We good after jcam222 cleared up the mystery..

That he has 18 starts doesnt matter, he was still chosen as starting QB then traded for a sixth rounder after starting for one half of football.
Just found it odd.

It was indeed odd, London.
Romeo flipped a coin that year (literally) to decide who would start the season ... Anderson or Frye. That was the year we drafted Brady Quinn, but he held out and wasn't ready. Frye had started the year before and got the start in the opener against the Steelers. He shit the bed and looked lost, Anderson replaced him at halftime.
They traded Frye because they were going forward with Anderson and Quinn was the "obvious" future. The next week Anderson put up 51 points and 5 TD passes against a Bengal team that won the division the year before and the roof blew off in Browns QB controversy history.
