Jonathan Paul Manziel

OK some of you have not been happy with the QB I (
) sent you.3 or 4 years from now I have a better trained midget who just may challenge some of JF's A&M records.
Meet the cover boy for Parade HS All-America Team: Never lost a game in 3 state highest division Championship runs starting at age 15.
OK, Ok--I'll throw in his RT too (slated for LT in college), HS Junior Greg Little. Only the preliminary best player in the nation 2016 ESPN Top 300 players list.

Impressive. I love about everything Texas but why aren't you growing those quarterbacks bigger?
Because Nick Saban can't stand to play against midget QB's who won't stand still for his pro defenses to chew up and spit out.

Nick had some problems with a big Buckeye quarterback this year too.

yeah I suppose, but WR is one of the easier position to fill. I do agree about Manziel antics if more come up but idk man. This may draw some ire around here but nothing he's done this off-season is stuff I care about. A 22 year old kid got photographed by the pool and in clubs drinking casually, big whoop. I care WAY more about the missing the workout at the end of the season than that crap. I'd reckon to guess 75% of the league is doing that stuff at this point if not worse.
Manziel's biggest problem is he needs to realize the world doesn't revolve him anymore. THAT is why he didn't show up on the field and that is why he missed the meetings if you ask me personally. He's been coddled his whole football career and now the Browns aren't doing that so this is where I want to see him respond.
hey man i agree. i'm not a manziel hater. i'm a realist. if that kid was so Fing good he would have taken over the reigns of the team inTC last year.....no QB competition, he wins.......
BUT we all know that didn't happen. when i say this to you and all of his fans i don't want to sound disrespectful but where in anything last year did you see him be able to perform athletically at a nfl level?
if the kid 'tore up the nfl' like he said, he could be swinging by chadeliers acting like a foll and no one would care. the fact is he sucks so far and i were him or anyone involved with him i'd tell him to hit the books.
sadly, IMO even if he studied harder that hawkins or einstein i still think he wouldn't get it.

The hope in Manziel, or any rookie QB for that matter, remains in large part within the clear historical observation that the majority of NFL rookies simply dont play well in their first professional season. Sure, we could over analyze what has become the most hotly contested seven quarters of live action that I can remember but I dont think that even the most cynical Browns fan would argue in good faith that the Manziel in Year 2 or Year 5 is the same player that we saw in Year 1. I do like to read from players including Haden and Dansby who mention that Manziel looked good in practice and I did like seeing Manziel find some success in Buffalo (he scored a quick touchdown against a Prevent defense which, by definition, is intended to "prevent" quick touchdowns). That being said, we are all hoping to see large incremental improvement in Manziel's game next year and beyond.
In my opinion the problem that we've seen is the result of unrealistic expectations that never should have existed to begin with. Rookie quarterbacks, especially 21 year olds coming from unorthodox college offenses and needing to adapt a unique skillset to a higher level of competition, simply do not find instant success in the NFL. Part of this problem of perception was fueled by Manziel who boisterously claimed he was ready to "wreck this league" and part of the problem was fueled by college football fans that never appreciated the enormous leap in competition that the NFL represents.
Would we be debating JFF to the same extent that we are if he sat out the entire year? Are Patriot fans worried that Garrapolo is busting because they haven't seen anything to prove that he has NFL talent? Is Blake Bortles a bust because he didnt play up to to the same standard as league veterans? Of course not.

it'd be worse. the crying from the manzealots would be over-the-top. they disappeared like a fart in the wind when the realized their bullshit bravado about their player got gutted like a christmas ham.

because what we saw from both of them was head over heels above what we saw from manziel. night and day. they at least looked like they belonged in the league.
johnny, not so much.

Firstly I'm really not a "fan" of Manziel but just of the Browns having a god damn QB who can play before I die. Anywho, what I said right after the Carolina game (and started a thread about it too) is that while very discouraged, the Browns were also setting him up to fail. The offense Shanny ran in the Cincy was laughably bad and the play JM got knocked out was a DESIGNED QB rollout to the edge against arguably the best LB core in the NFL. Before people read this the wrong way, I'm not making excuses for the fact he looked really bad out there. I'd even say to me personally he looked like the game was wayyy too fast out there. But, he's gotta have a shot in an actual pro-style offense.
sorry if I hear one more time the designed rollout was a bad play, I'm gonna puke. Is he mobile or not? The Johnny nuthuggers sure loved the qb dash for a TD- but damn- call a play where he can use his legs- it sucks.

A run up the middle on a scramble and DESIGNED play to the edge against the best LB core are two way different things. I don't know why I keep getting this opinion of being a fan of Johnny but I just don't let the hate for him cloud my judgement either. No one, I repeat no one, sets up plays like that. Russell Wilson runs out of design or scramble and Cam never goes to the edge like that. That's setting a QB up to be killed, I would never say different no matter who is running.
i get the small measure of work is not enough to judge how a person will develop, but it sure shows where that person is right now on a scale of overall knowledge of the game at that point in his career, which was almost non-existent and almost didn't make the scale.
i believe he'll get a shot (if he's still here) to win the starting role but i don't know if pettine will coin it 'a QB comp' again this year. if we resign hoyer or bring in a vet who thinks they are the starter the last words they'll want to hear is 'QB competition'. especially against someone who was supposed to be 'wrecking the league' but instead 'wrecking the locker room'.
Yeah, we're on the same page. There's a looong time until training camp, I just keep my fingers crossed that the dude at least gets there without another slip up.
News flash - the Browns run a pro-style offense.
Did you see that against the Bengals? Because I sure as hell didn't. With Hoyer in they did, with Manziel it was totally different.

My daughter just texted me but I haven't found anything yet.
True or False?
Details?
-
ESPN is reporting he entered rehab last Weds.
-
I am happy for JM and the Browns. I have felt just by the things I have read he needed treatment. I thought if he were to become a good QB in the NFL this would be his first step and wishing him the best.
-
Just read about it on Bleacher Report. It's a good PR move but won't mean jack shit if he can't perform on the field.
-
Hopefully they teach him how to read a defense.
-
Tomato, tomato. Now it will be: "johnny has learned from his mistakes" and "I'm glad he's getting the help he needs"
The problem is that even if he works as hard as any QB in the league I still don't see him being a successful NFL quarterback, hope he proves me wrong.
-
As I watched the Seahawks Russell Wilson last night I kept thinking there is no reason for Manziel to look as bad as he did this year. He does have more talent than that. I was upset with him for things like joking around on the sideline while the Browns were getting thumped by the Bengals 23-0. What in the world is there to joke around about? Then his partying again right after the season with seemingly no concern about his poor play and the Browns missing a good opportunity this past year of making the playoffs.
I believe if he can get mentally into the game he is capable of being a good QB. If we wants to quit being a clown, party animal and focus on being a good quarterback. JMO.

That's good to hear.
When I met with the Browns VP he said Johnny was going to be good, but there was "something that needed to happen" ... I'm thinking this is what he meant.
Zombo
--Personal responsibility is a good sign, I hope turns the corner and kicks ass.

Thank god.
