Firstly I'm really not a "fan" of Manziel but just of the Browns having a god damn QB who can play before I die. Anywho, what I said right after the Carolina game (and started a thread about it too) is that while very discouraged, the Browns were also setting him up to fail. The offense Shanny ran in the Cincy was laughably bad and the play JM got knocked out was a DESIGNED QB rollout to the edge against arguably the best LB core in the NFL. Before people read this the wrong way, I'm not making excuses for the fact he looked really bad out there. I'd even say to me personally he looked like the game was wayyy too fast out there. But, he's gotta have a shot in an actual pro-style offense.

sorry if I hear one more time the designed rollout was a bad play, I'm gonna puke. Is he mobile or not? The Johnny nuthuggers sure loved the qb dash for a TD- but damn- call a play where he can use his legs- it sucks.

A run up the middle on a scramble and DESIGNED play to the edge against the best LB core are two way different things. I don't know why I keep getting this opinion of being a fan of Johnny but I just don't let the hate for him cloud my judgement either. No one, I repeat no one, sets up plays like that. Russell Wilson runs out of design or scramble and Cam never goes to the edge like that. That's setting a QB up to be killed, I would never say different no matter who is running.

i get the small measure of work is not enough to judge how a person will develop, but it sure shows where that person is right now on a scale of overall knowledge of the game at that point in his career, which was almost non-existent and almost didn't make the scale.

i believe he'll get a shot (if he's still here) to win the starting role but i don't know if pettine will coin it 'a QB comp' again this year. if we resign hoyer or bring in a vet who thinks they are the starter the last words they'll want to hear is 'QB competition'. especially against someone who was supposed to be 'wrecking the league' but instead 'wrecking the locker room'.

Yeah, we're on the same page. There's a looong time until training camp, I just keep my fingers crossed that the dude at least gets there without another slip up.

News flash - the Browns run a pro-style offense.

Did you see that against the Bengals? Because I sure as hell didn't. With Hoyer in they did, with Manziel it was totally different.

  • My daughter just texted me but I haven't found anything yet.

    True or False?

    Details?

  • ESPN is reporting he entered rehab last Weds.

  • I am happy for JM and the Browns. I have felt just by the things I have read he needed treatment. I thought if he were to become a good QB in the NFL this would be his first step and wishing him the best.

  • Just read about it on Bleacher Report. It's a good PR move but won't mean jack shit if he can't perform on the field.

  • I don't know if it's good PR. It's definitely damage control. What is also does is spell out that the Browns picked a guy in the first round of an NFL draft...who needs rehab. Ugh.

  • Hopefully they teach him how to read a defense.

  • Tomato, tomato. Now it will be: "johnny has learned from his mistakes" and "I'm glad he's getting the help he needs"

The problem is that even if he works as hard as any QB in the league I still don't see him being a successful NFL quarterback, hope he proves me wrong.

  • As I watched the Seahawks Russell Wilson last night I kept thinking there is no reason for Manziel to look as bad as he did this year. He does have more talent than that. I was upset with him for things like joking around on the sideline while the Browns were getting thumped by the Bengals 23-0. What in the world is there to joke around about? Then his partying again right after the season with seemingly no concern about his poor play and the Browns missing a good opportunity this past year of making the playoffs.

I believe if he can get mentally into the game he is capable of being a good QB. If we wants to quit being a clown, party animal and focus on being a good quarterback. JMO.

  • That's good to hear.

When I met with the Browns VP he said Johnny was going to be good, but there was "something that needed to happen" ... I'm thinking this is what he meant.

--Personal responsibility is a good sign, I hope turns the corner and kicks ass.

  • Thank god.

I hope someone kicks his ass in the rehab place and he can never play for the Browns again.

    ^this!

  • Johnny stealing headlines after the Super Bowl. They give way too much media attention to this bum

  • Actually i applaud him for seeing he has a problem unlike Josh Gordon who makes excuses . Who knows if it will make a difference on the field but anytime someone realizes they have a problem and gets treatment it betters there life!

Johnny seems to have more of a problem than Gordon. But second hand weed is worse than getting plastered on alcohol apparently.

I didn't like this draft pick from the beginning (opposed to those that have flipped since then). I hope he gets the treatment he needs. I hope he becomes a great QB, I just don't see it happening.

  • Was there any doubt?

  • Thank god.

    No one gives a fock.

  • Even if this is a symbolic move it shows the guy is humbled enough to realize he has to at least show he wants to change. We'll see how it turns out.
