Bands that you can't stand

And if there is an act that exemplifies mediocrity any more than the Steve Miller Band I don't know who it would be.
I don't particularly hate them it's just that they are the Velveeta cheese of the music world.

Don't really dislike anything. If I don't like a song I don't listen. Most of the bands people list as disliking on here, I like.
-
Bands that get put together on 'talent' shows I tend to dislike. Bands whose sole purpose is selling records, not making music.
-
Loverboy.....its not that I hate the band, I just hate their head bands.......wasn't that what you were asking for?

I'd say that even the bands that pretend not to, still want to sell a shitload of records and often times that independent attitude is part of the marketing strategy.Bands that get put together on 'talent' shows I tend to dislike. Bands whose sole purpose is selling records, not making music.

But that sort of thing would include The Monkees, and I like The Monkees.

No that's what Chris was referring to not me. I'm saying that part of every avant-garde independent living for the music artist is a promotion team trying to sell that attitude. I like the monkees. The monkees are singers singing songs with studio musicians playing the instruments. Look up the Wrecking Crew and see just how many of our favorite bands sang while they played.

Monkeys should be in the HOF, IMHO. TV Show, hit songs, etc.
What gives?

Kiss comes to mind. Not much musical talent there. Just hype and product selling IMO

I don't put a great deal of stock in musical talent. I go by what appeals to me. If it were only raw ability you might never be happy listening to someone other than a virtuoso.

Okay, I found one I don't like.

I also go by what appeals to me, and 4 guys with very limited musical talent, ie.Kiss is not appealing to me

I don't like kiss either. Their stuff is uncomplicated but that doesn't mean they are untalented. Paul Stanley did Phantom of the Opera on Broadway for a while.

KISS is extremely talented at marketing their image and their personality and garnering compensation therefore.....even if their music is by no means a virtuosity. Most musicians would likely be more receptive to that kind of talent.
See where I like Strutter and Black Diamond, my wife likes Beth.

And Gene Simmons did a reality TV show. What's your point?

It means what it means. Every popular song does not need to be complicated and that lack of complication does not mean the performers are not talented.

Complication doesn't alway sound good either. Joe Satriani comes to mind

Exactly...“I'm sick and tired of people saying that we put out 11 albums that sound exactly the same. In fact, we've put out 12 albums that sound exactly the same.”Angus Young
