I'm pulling for him. I would love to see JM make it work. I don't think anyone really knows right now but at least I think we are going to see JM at 100 percent this time.

Good read, but I was not sure how to take this bit on us hiring O'Connell...
"It just made sense,'' said Whitfield of the former dual threat quarterback and third-round pick of the Patriots working with Manziel. "A lot of people have x's and o's information, and a lot of people know the game and understand it all, but there are very few who can take material this thick, cut it down so it transfers in smoothly to a young student, especially a young guy like Johnny.
Sounds too much like bringing the work load down to the level of effort JM is willing to give.

I would too. At this point he is off my radar, so ANYTHING positive from him would be good......I did compare him to some of the other recent QB busts and think(hope) he has the nads to do better.......
J. Russell?.....Didn't give a shit.....I think JM wants it WAY more than he ever did....
Leaf?..............Simply couldn't handle the pressure and spotlight.....but JM thrives in the spotlight....
Tebow?..........Coudnt throw............Johnny can...
So compared to these failures, I still think Johnny can come around and has some of the stuff these others didnt have.....
But, the one guy that I worry he'll end up like is Todd Marinovich.....lets hope he's not....
Sounds too much like bringing the work load down to the level of effort JM is willing to give.
Thats one possibility.....kinda sounds that way......or....
Another perspective is Loggains wasn't a good teacher.....had the info, but couldnt convey it....

I took that to mean he could teach it in an understandable, absorbable way so that a QB is not overwhelmed by "thinking", but can get out there and use his abilities within what he has learned thus far. Then continue to add pieces as the QB grows into the role. That makes sense for any rookie or near rookie QB trying to play in the NFL.

That's how i took it as well. Reminds me of when I was an avid golfer back in the late '80s. I took lessons from 3 different PGA Pros trying to get consistent off the tee. The 3rd one, Jay Spitale from Canton, had me consistently drawing the ball in 2 lessons (dropped me to a 6 handicap). All 3 were trying to get me to do the same thing, but only Jay was able to communicate it in terms that not only made sense to me, but that I was able to absorb & execute.

The probability is low, but anything is possible.
Before this past college season, how many of you on this forum would have bet that OSU would be called for a total of 2 holding penalties all year?
Yet, that's exactly what happened.
People can change ; people can mature unexpectedly quickly.

I never followed Manziel much in college (busy watching the Buckeyes and Notre Dame). I have since gone back and watched a number of videos and I just keep thinking he is capable of much more than I saw out of him this year. Maybe he needed rehab earlier? Something was wrong. His quickness was off for one thing. At first I thought it was the faster speed of the NFL but maybe he was overwhelmed with trying to "think" through plays instead of it just being natural? Maybe with the right coaching he can be an NFL quarterback? He has a good arm. He should be a good scrambling QB. I know we cannot depend on JM at this point but it will be interesting to see how he responds his next go at it.

When JM comes back it would be nice to see the media give him some space and back off a bit and let him ease back into playing football. It won't happen. The media circus will swarm like vultures. I hate seeing the distraction but it won't be JM's fault this time.

Getting off the roller coaster circus and into rehab is the best thing for JM. The fact he went in before the super bowl and turned down a six figure salary to host a super bowl party in Vegas tells me he is serious about this.

what he, or anybody else who's expected to be the starter, needs is to be named the starter and given the reps. We dick around with quarterback competitions every year and the outcome is always stupid. Last year Brandon Weeden look best. After him was Jason Campbell. And then Brian Hoyer. So I don't put much stock in the competition. You look good at practice? Well great. When you suck on the field we throw somebody in who's completely unprepared.

Apparently we're not the only ones whipping up these scenarios. Here's an interesting one...
http://dawgpounddaily.com/2015/02/21/nfl-draft-browns-jets-eagles-draft-day-trade-scenario/
In a nutshell it's:
- MM falls to Jets at #6.
- We trade our 12 and 19 to Jets for MM.
- We trade MM to Chip for their #20, Foles, and other 2015 and future picks... or, worst case, end up with MM.

Sounds like we'd be moving up on behalf of the Iggles because they don't have the ammo. In which case, I also want their 2nd rounder this year.

Draft Marcus Mariota at #2.
Draft Bernardick McKinney in the second.
-
This post may rank in the top five for "Most Flameworthy Post of All-Time", especially given how hard I've been on Mariota recently. This post isn't a personal endorsement of the player, just a way for me to kill time during lunch.
Speculation: Marcus Mariota is going to be a Cleveland Brown.
We'll start with Mary Kay Cabot's article a few days ago. In it Mary Kay talks about how Farmer was enamored with Mariota last season and that they continued to scout him this season. Not much more than common sense, but something.
Second, the quote from Pettine today that states the Browns are looking at the draft and free agency with the mindset they have to find a starting quarterback.
The third, and most convincing reason, is Kevin O'Connell. Obviously, O'Connell worked with Mariota throughout the pre-draft process. That's been discussed. Then, there's this:
"What I don't think the fans and media understand is that all these guys like Mariota, (Johnny) Manziel and (Bryce) Petty are all pure projection players. We can see certain characteristics on tape, but they don't play the same game that we play in the NFL so we can't see things we need to on tape. We have to make calculated guesses. I know this, I wouldn't bet against Mariota. He's a good football player." -- AFC QB coach
The aforementioned quote is on Marcus Mariota's NFL.com scouting profile. It's also clearly a quote from Kevin O'Connell... the only AFC North QB coach who has ties to all three of the quarterbacks mentioned in that quote (Mariota, Manziel and Petty). On it's own, nothing special. Combined with everything else, it is interesting. The fourth reason is the hire of John DeFillippo as OC. Flip is credited with developing Derek Carr in Oakland. Carr, a 6'3", 210 lb. freakishly athletic quarterback himself, also had many concerns about his transition due to the offensive system that he ran in college. Flip was able to turn Carr into a viable NFL QB in his rookie year, maybe he was brought to Cleveland not only because of his ties with Pettine and the area, but also because of what he'll need to do with Mariota?Speculation: Manziel to the Eagles? There's been a lot of talk about what the Browns could do with Johnny Manziel, especially if they are indeed looking to draft a QB this year. Obviously, we could keep him and have the quarterbacks battle it out this offseason. But, there could also be a trade with Philadelphia in the works. Chip Kelly has already stated that Manziel is more or less "the one that got away".“When I coached at Oregon, he was tailor made for [the system],” Kelly said to CSNPhilly. “He broke my heart. I love the kid. I think he's a hell of a football player,” Kelly added.
Obviously, there are tons of reports about how Philadelphia will risk nothing to move up in the draft and take Mariota. However, a simple compromise could be getting the guy he originally wanted to run his offense in Oregon, along with someone else, without having to give up everything to do it.
Speculation: Crazy three-way trade scenario.
Because of the above scenarios, I've decided to just lump them all together and form a three-way trade. So, here goes:
Cleveland trades Johnny Manziel and Josh Gordon to Philadelphia and, in return, receives #52.
Philadelphia trades Nick Foles to Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay trades Cleveland the #1 overall and, in return, receives Cleveland's #12 and #19.
Cleveland Gives: Manziel, Gordon, #12, #19
Cleveland Receives: Mariota, #52
Tampa Bay Gives: #1
Tampa Bay Receives: Nick Foles, #12, #19
Philadelphia Gives: Nick Foles, #52
Philadelphia Receives: Johnny Manziel, Josh Gordon
In this scenario, all three teams get what they are looking for. Tampa gets the tall, strong armed quarterback that Lovie Smith likes. And, as an added benefit, he has also proven to be successful in the NFL. In addition they are getting two first round picks to address other needs. On paper, Tampa Bay may come out the best in this deal.
Philadelphia gets the athletic, playmaking quarterback that Kelly salivates over and, as an added bonus, they're getting a freakishly talented WR who could go on to be a future HOFer, and they are only getting him at the cost of a second round pick.
Cleveland gets the quarterback they wanted in Mariota without having to completely break the bank to get him, plus they receive a second round pick as well, giving them picks #43, #52, #77, #108, #112 in the first four rounds.
(For the sake of expedition, I only factored in draft picks for this year. It would be more likely that there would be future draft picks involved as well.)
TL;DR: Mariota to Browns. Manziel to Eagles. Gordon to Eagles. Foles to Tampa.
This thread is meant to house any and every sort of fantastical draft trade scenario over the upcoming few weeks, rather than have them interspersed in random threads about other things. Have at it, tear mine apart and create your own.

Great post Timmy. This could actually take place. You would be a genius on this board (next to gipper) if this happened.
