Gipson pissed.

Locked The Browns Board

It's Gipson's fault that he wasn't good enough to get drafted out of college. He knew all along what restricted free agency is like and the Browns made the right move.

Let the market determine his worth and if you feel like that's fair value, you match the offer.

Walter, you complain about the Packers and Patriots resigning their players, yet this is exactly what they did. The Packers let Cobb test the market to gauge his value and then resigned him. They risk losing Bulaga because of the same thing. The Patriots let McCourty hit the market and then matched the offer that was on the table. Both teams relied on the player's willingness to resign with his original team. If Gipson wants to stay with the Browns than all he has to do is sign an offer sheet which he thinks is fair and then hope the Browns match it.

As an organization you have to determine what a player is worth to you and stick to that. That's how teams like the Packers and Patriots stay consistently at the top.

Isn't that basically what the Browns did with Alex Mack last year?

We spent most of yesterday afternoon trying to explain that to Wally....but it was easier for him to keep his panties all bunched up and overreact like a little whiny bitch.

People always going to freak around here.

In 2013 it was renowned NFL expert Mike H. (and others) throwing a shit fit because Skrine and Gipson were "garbage" and we didn't address replacing them in the draft or free agency and we had made a grave, grave error trading a fourth round pick to to the Steelers, who drafted S Shamarko Thomas, while we stashed a third for the next year.

Now, after the Browns stuck by Gipson, he turned into a Prop Bowler and people are freaking out because we are doing the correct thing and setting the market for him, other than throwing bushels of money at him before we have to. And others are freaking out because we haven't re-signed Skrine, who also turned into a good player.

Gipson will back. Skrine was a valuable player, now someone is going to give him starter money, whereas we have Johnny Gilbert who we want to develop into the starter and D Williams, who was a find, who can play the slot at a high level much, much cheaper than Skrine.

And if anyone sees Mike H. out there, fell free to remind him that Shamarko Thomas's next interception will be first, while Gipson has more than anybody since Thomas has been in the league.

I remember Mike H. whining about Gipson.

And the Vag singing the praises of "The Shark"....how he would be the shit. Does he even start in Pisstown? Is he even still on the team?

Besides the Ints, Gipson does well in support against the run.

"The Shark" has started one game in two years. But he may start this year if they get the balls to cut Polymumu.

Not sure which third round pick was theirs, but we got Kirksey and West in the thrid round last year and they look like big-time contrbutors for years to come.

  • This whole thing is funny. Gipson posted a line of "neutral" or "mellow" faces on his Twitter account... 😐😐😐😐

Not exactly "angry," or "pissed" as per the title of this thread... He's probably thinking the same thing as most of us... sure, the 2nd round tender ($2.35MIL) means he gets $1Mil less (than a 1st round tender) this year if he doesn't get an offer, but he also is more likely to get an offer, which he probably knows the Browns will sign anyway...

I doubt he's going around his apartment flipping over his furniture and punching holes in the wall... I'd be more worried if I saw 😠 or 😡 or 😒

  • I have literally no idea what this thread is about.

Browns can match every offer.. and if Browns choose to match, WE KEEP HIM.

Browns get a 2nd round pick if they choose not to match.

This thread is similar to the know-nothingness of washington R's messaging Iran and demonstrating that they don't know their own process for signing treaties.

This isn't an issue, people. Nothing to see here. Gipson is not pissed - because this isn't a thing.

    Exactly.

It's just some pissy little child throwing a hissy fit.

Sorry, I haven't had time to read all posts. Just tried to hit some highlights.

    But yea.

Could you imagine the picks the Little Gipper would get if he had Haden and Revis patrolling back there with him?

  • He's a rfa, how are we gonna lose him?......we get first rights to match any offer he receives(which Im betting we will do).....

2nd round tender seems pretty fair for an undrafted player with 2 good years in and a untested damaged knee

Agree... the knee is the complicating factor that is not being given enough consideration in this "conversation".

    @tiamat63 said:

That tweet makes little sense. Is it 'being discussed' to offer Gipson a long term contract? Or are the two sides in discussion?

    Preferably the latter.

    Almost certainly the latter...

The missing point until your post is that tendering does not end negotiations. It ensures that they continue. Does anyone crying about how we have wronged Gip know what he's been asking?

As for the second round tender... if there's any question about the knee, then it's appropriate and buys time for further rehab to resolve any questions.

One difference between Gip and McCourty not displayed in the graphic... McCourty understands it's a business.

  • @manzier said:

They offered a fair contract for a guy who has one good tear and a bum knee. It seems you want us just to overpay just so we can say we signed someone. Thats how we get these stupid high contracts everytime a guy has a good year. Let him put a few good years and make a few PB's before we pay him like he's the best in the league.

Last year he was the 50th best safety. This year tenth. Next year?

No doubt. If he's worth more then the market will determine that and he'll get his.

    1. A bum knee? He suffered a sprain knee at the end of the season, he isn't on multiple ACL tears.

    2. Let him put in a few good years before we pay him like he's the best in the league? He's already put in 2 good years and entering the final year of his deal. If you don't pay him soon he's gone

Here was your chance to actually know, and use, facts...

"Gipson, who leads the NFL with six interceptions, suffered a Grade 3 tear of the medial collateral ligament in his right knee, which is a rupture of the ligament, a source told cleveland.com today. He also suffered some "very mild'' damage to his posterior cruciate ligament.

He did not suffer any damage to his anterior cruciate ligament, which was originally feared."

He CANT walk away without the Browns having the opportunity to match the offer. That's what we've been trying to get through your giant fat blockhead all night long.

He's a restricted free agent...the Browns have control. Wait and see what he gets offered and then go from there. This really isn't that complicated for anyone who would like to have an open mind and the reading comprehension above the 3rd grade.

You obviously are the one who can't get it.

Say the Eagles for example part with a 2nd and we match it, and he has another great year.

What in the fuck makes you think he's going to want to stick around in 2016 after being low balled by us?

He'll go elsewhere, lets prevent that, getting him LOCKED DOWN NOW.

And lets stop acting like every move Ray Farmer has made doesn't deserve question.

    1. Since Gip is now on the open market, then by definition if we retain him, we did not "low-ball" him.

    2. As far as I know, tendering now does not preclude tagging in the future... and that can be done at least two years running. So I assume top-five pay followed by top pay ought to piss him off even more?

Mack was an unrestricted free agent and had more leverage since the transition tag was around 9 million (if I'm not mistaken). The bottom line is that with Mack they couldn't come to an agreement by the tag deadline and so the Browns opted to let the market determine his value with the option to match any offer.

With Gipson they hold much more leverage since he is a restricted free agent and they could still franchise him next year for a fairly low cost.

The general thinking is the same though.

On top of that, what are the chances that a team is willing to part ways with a 2nd round pick for a one year rental of a player? That's the only way he'd be a free agent again in 2016...

  • Twitter crap aside, as much as I think Gipson is a great player he is coming off a knee injury. It's hard to tell sometimes how players come back from knee issues, even if they weren't total blow ups. Gipson will be a Brown next year, and there's nothing stopping them from working on a contract throughout the year.

Relax, it's not like they cut him.

To paraphrase Carlin: "My shit is fact and your facts are shit."

... or if he gets no offers and does not sign an extension with us. Then we'd get him at the tender for one-year.

    Unlikely, but possible...

  • Great logic here guys.

"It's not a big deal if we lose one of our top 5 best players as long as we get a 2nd round pick that we'll most likely blow"

You truely are dumber than a box of rocks. Have you taken your medication today?

What part of what the Brown's did is illogical? They essentially did what they did with Mack without the transition tag and WITH compensation should they decide not to match an offer, something that they would not have received with Mack. And if I remember correctly your stupid, narrow minded, oblivious ass LOVED what they did with Mack last year.

You need help dude. Either that or you are a Zombo/Gipper troll bot!

  • One of my the few smart moves by the Browns, just like Robertson. You have to use these contract options to maximize your cap

  • Let's let a young pro bowl player walk so we can get a 2nd round rookie who we hope becomes a pro bowler.

  • @tim-couch-pulls-out said:

    @walterwhite said:

Are people really this stupid? I mean we are not going to lose him. Macks deal included option years because that is what the Jaguars (I believe) offered him to make it a tough pill for the Browns. Gipson doesn't have ANY option years as of yet. Let him go out and see what he is worth. What people think he is worth, and what other teams value him at could be very different.
