Revis to the Browns? No back to JETS

  • The problem with Revis is he's clearly about the money, has been his whole career. He's a great player, there's no doubt about it but as of this moment secondary is easily the best overall position we field talent wise. Desir, Gilbert, Williams all showed promise last year and that's not even assuming we re-sign Skrine as the #2.

Point is, if we're going to make a 'big money' FA splash I'd much rather it be at another position of need like DL, LB or WR.

  • I'd LOVE to have Revis on this team. That being said, for that kind of money...there might be other needs to fill first such as OLB'er and DL. If we lose Sheard, which it looks like we will....we might want to make offers to guys like Houston. He might want a lot too, but other guys like Orakpo and Worilds might be solid additions at very reasonable prices.

  • I agree with most, Revis would be awesome to have, but there are so many other needs with that money. The defense would be great at stopping the pass, but nobody would have to pass with the run D they had last year. Adding Revis would be like nailing the door shut against the pass, but it still leaves the window next to it wide open for the run...

  • Revis 5 years ago? Yeah Revis at nearly 30 years old expecting a giant payday? Nahh

We're good at CB, and I haven't lost faith in Gilbert to becoming a pro bowler just yet.

5 years ago?.....he's 29 and at his peak right now.....easily one of the top few CB's in the league.....5 years ago he was just finding his game....

  • Having two "great" corners typically exposes a weakness in one or both of their games.

Look when Asomugha/Hall teamed up. Patrick Peterson looked worse when Cromartie arrived. Asomugha/Samuel.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have Revis but he is going to cost a lot and the payout/cost benefit analysis may not be very high as we already have a very good secondary

To get Houston, we'd have to also give up two first round picks.

  • I'd be shocked and amazed if Revis ended up with us.

Price tag will be around $15mm/yr? With 60-ish percent guaranteed?

I literally just said the same thing in a text. $14-17/year, 60% guaranteed.

yeah I know. If we were "assured" to get Beasley or one of the other really good edge guys coming out this year...than yeah I wouldn't sign Houston. problem is at 12, those guys might be gone...especially Beasley. What i'm debating with myself is if it would be better to give both 1sts this year and save our #1 for next year when Bosa might come out...or retain 19 this year and give this years 1st and next years.

  • Not that it matters, since I cannot see us going after Houston, but do we have that choice?

  • I would hope the Browns aren't crazy enough to use $25 million of cap on 2 DBs

The problem with the Nnamdi and Samuel ones is that Nnamdi was already in his 30's and being asked to play in a scheme that didn't play to any of his strengths.

We know that Revis under Pettine works, period.

edit: Honestly the talk of having Haden and Revis on the same side of the field itself gives me a semi. I love defense.

The Patriots give him a better chance to win and the Jets can offer him a massive deal thanks to the cap space they carved out by not making big bids for Revis or too many other players last offseason.

I'm sorry, but the Browns have about as much or more cap space as the Jets, no?

In fact, in checking, the Browns have more cap space:

    http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cap/

So that is one bogus argument.

But the Jets fit the author's narrative, no? Division rivals battling for the top player in FA...

Revis could give a flying fuck about that if it comes down to money....and working for someone he likes.

  • Remember when the Eagles had Nnamdi Asomougha, Asante Samuel, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and people were claiming they were going to have the most dominant secondary ever? They went 8-8 year one and 4-12 year two.

Yes, it would be really nice to add Revis, but I wouldn't throw a ton of money at him if we can't find a way to stop the run and fix our D-line.

But I still think our D-line can be pretty good......if healthy. Taylor, Armonty Bryant/Winn/Hughes et al missed large parts of the season. They would have to replace guys like Sheard/Rubin of they are lost.

I would take Revis...., plus pick up one other defensive veteran and draft the OLB or DL......after all, we got 10 picks.

A semi? Is that like a boner?

Steelers inquired today on free-agent CB Darrelle Revis. Unrealistic. Sounds like it's down to Jets and Patriots.

I didn't think the Steelers had the cap space.

  • Bills interested now .......
