  • Ahh building through the draft! We have been so good at doing that right? No.

2001- Passed on LaDainian Tomlinson for Gerard Warren

2002- Passed on Ed Reed for William Green

2004- Passed on Ben Rapistburger for Kellen WinSLOW

2005- Passed on Aaron Rodgers, DeMarcus Ware, Shawne Merriman for Braylon "Mr.Drops" Edwards

2007- Passed Adrian Peterson for Joe Thomas ( If we take Peterson first, then a very good Joe Staley is availible instead of Quinn )

These ones were the worst that I found, I know the last one won't be popular but Joe Staley is still a 4x Pro bowler so he is still a better then average OT.

  • Its not just the drafting of good players...its developing them. We dont develop players well.

I don't know if I can even agree with that, we are constantly changing front offices, and schemes. Hard to develop guys when they are constantly learning, and having coaches who didn't draft or sign them coming in making changes. Consistency is a good thing in most cases.

  • Andre Johnson taking less money to go to the Colts. He must of plain blocked Brown's number on his phone. Or I can see after he refused SD money and was laughing about him and his agert just plunked um. Mean while the Brown's call and both of em get into that laughing situation and neither one can even breathe.

  • Why would Andre Johnson want to come here? He's coming to the end of a great career that he wants to end with a ring. We need to accept we aren't there yet. Draft and build well and one day we might. Until then, expensive free agents are pointless in cleveland especially veteran ones.

  • 1st off, the 2007 pick was perfect.

2nd, those were past regimes and should serve no bearing on evaluating this regime. If you look around the NFL, you'll see that great teams are built through the draft. Just because past regimes failed at it doesn't mean we should abandon that philosophy.

  • building through the draft is fine... its when you are constantly rebuilding through the draft is where you find problems. You can't lose vet starters and always be trying to replace them with rookies

We're not rebuilding. We did lose "vet starters" but not very good ones. Sheard was below avg, Skrine is in the way of letting Desir/Gilbert get the PT they need, Cameron couldn't stay healthy so he doesnt deserve the contract he's probably seeking, and Rubin was worse than Kitchen last year so we didn't lose anything there...

I don't get what people are getting so worked up for. What did we really lose?

  • To start off with we lost our viable stretch the field type of player with Gordon. Sheard may be below avg but was still the best strong line backer on the squad and how about Desir/Gilbert getting playing time when they earned it by beating out a solid vet. As far as Cameron and Rubin go, I agree that we didn't necessarily lose anything there, but we sure as hell didn't gain anything... just have players who weren't good enough to beat out these "not very good" starters going to take their place. At some point it would be nice to actually have rookies who have to earn a spot on the roster instead of it being handed to them every year.

  • And, how many FA signings since '99 have really helped us build a team?

We all root for a team that has been dismal for so long I thought more people would be patient with Farmer after taking us from 4-12 to 7-9 in just one offseason... I know Browns' optimism is hard to conjure up but wouldn't Farmer and Pettine be the first group to really have any for?

I guess Im the crazy one...

  • Really, its not like the Browns have ever even used fa to nab anything but over the hill type players looking for their last big contract. I don't need big and flashy FA's... I just want holes filled so that we aren't so damn desperate come draft day.

Make that US the "crazy 2" because I agree with you 100%.

    Desperate for what?

I see us needing 2 starters from this draft: a WR and NT. We have 2 1st round picks to accomplish that. The other 8 picks can all be used to add depth at other positions...

Doesn't really sound desperate to me... but maybe I just have too much faith in our roster that just went 7-9 despite multiple injuries and terrible QB play down the stretch...

  • i'm OPIMISTIC (smile!) that farmer is going to pull off another strong draft and we will finally not find ourselves at the bottom of the afcn at the end of the season.

    can't wait for the draft!

  • Until proven otherwise, I'd say we need... Starting QB, WR, RT, OLB, CB and a kicker... I think we need depth (future starters) at OL, DL, ILB, S

  • maybe some of our younger players are able to step up and be that kind of starter... I wish I could say that I thought Gilbert and JM were able to fill the voids ahead of them, but what I have seen to this point speaks otherwise... right now Shaw might be the best QB on the roster?

Joe Thomas may be a HOF, first ballet no doubt, but he dosen't win us games. You know who would win us games? A star running back.

Also let me make this simpler, would you rather have.

    Adrian Peterson and Joe Staley

    Or

    Joe Thomas and Brady Quinn

It's your belief that Savage would have gone with Staley and not stuck with the apple of his eye with Quinn?

    That's good for a laugh.

Also, aside from arguably the greatest season for a running back ever, how many games has AP won the Vikes?

They were dominant with one year under Farve because of Farve. Then Made the playoffs by being lucky enough to face Green Bays backups the last game of the regular season. They've had QB play as bad and in some cases worse than us plus up and down Oline play.

it begins and ends with replacing/acquiring the middle of the DL because of the reoccurring absence of phil taylor due to injury. then yes WR and then yes depth at OL (can't have another F'd up season because of our center going down).

QB this draft? sure if mariota falls to us at 12. if not maybe a hundley or a petty? that'd be cool with me but also think about jordan being gone at TE, our LB corp and kicking game. we could go up and down the positions and there could be arguments made that depth or upgrades could be made at easily 1/3 of the roster so there are plenty of holes to fill, which means draft picks.
