  • This has got be the most dysfunctional professional team in all of sports. Farmer owes all of us long suffering, patient as hell fans an apology.

  • He's probably following the suggestion he got from his treatment team, which was probably to go to a 90-day residential program. A young guy like him would increase his chances by over 50% to remain sober for at least the first 2 years if he finishes that program (if it's a good one, which it probably is). Young people have the lowest sobriety rates (not surprising) following short-term treatments... and that rate is very low...

When considering that addiction is a life-or-death illness, I wouldn't complain one iota if he decided to take a year off and focus on his sobriety and recovery... of course that's coming from an experienced substance abuse therapist who also happens to be a Browns fan...

Let me ask, if we found out he had some form of cancer, would anybody question it if his treatment plan included taking a year off football???

With Cancer there would be an explanation why that person needed a year off. All fans would ask for is an explanation. And I know all about fucking HIPPA....it says that no ones health privacy can be unlawfully violated. Just because he is under no legal obligation to answer doesn't mean that he cannot be asked.

Its like any other right...free speech, bear arms etc......you can exercise it, but you are not immune from the consequences or repercussions or criticism of it.

  • Recovery, like active addiction, is selfish. If the kid thinks he needs a year off then more power to him. As mentioned above, the longer someone stays in rehab the greater the probability of long term sobriety. Who knows, maybe there are some legal angles that have yet been disclosed. Seriously, based on his performance, heretofore, the Browns aren't losing much in the QB department anyhow. Thank Christ Thad is back...meh

    hmm.....

  • Cancer? to the team maybe...

You don't check into a rehab center if you have cancer.

  • Who know, maybe there are some legal angles that have yet been disclosed.

No, probably not. I certainly do not think he is facing any criminal or otherwise charges. He may just want to keep things private, which is his prerogative.

But just as he has the right to keep it private, it is not obligatory that he do so. We have the right to ask....and he has the option to answer.

  • And......................

    ................. It's Rizzo.

  • Addiction is a treatable disease - if people are actually willing to undergo the treatment

If Manziel actually voluntarily checked himself in and is willing to do whatever is necessary.. I just might look into calling him "mature"

Facing your demons and taking constructive action is the definition of being a man

  • Too many nosey, prying bitch types in here recently. Leave the man alone and quit digging into rumors and gossip.

  • this place would be a drag without unfounded rumors, erroneous trades and signings, and totally baseless, career tarnishing gossip

Don't forget the personal attacks. They are best in the offseason.

Exactly my point. Addiction is not taken seriously like it should. The fact he went to rehab justifies why he might need a year off. He owes nobody an explanation...

  • Explanation is: He's staying in, because the professionals he is working with think he needs to stay in...

... and JM's smart enough to listen to them.

  • welll.......if this is true(and we dont know it is).....but if......

then, compared to last year, this should be a fairly quiet season with him and Gordon on sabbatical....

Then....in 2016.....it will be like getting two extra picks...(albiet, very risky picks)(but, still, a potentially explosive infusion)

WOW BREAKING NEWS: @TheRealTRizzo said a source very close to him said Johnny Manziel will not play in the 2015 @NFL season #SameOldBrowns

Well, we are going to need more info on this. Maybe we are just getting the Dolphin's attention.

Well, Jordan Cameron resigned with the Browns too. So Don't believe everything you see on Twitter, or even from. supposedly "reliable" sources. I'd hardly call Rizzo & Grossi "reliable".

Was it in another thread Manziel's girlfriend is a class A barfly? If the reason he checked into rehab is because of a drinking problem (likely), he's going to have no choice but to dump her if he wants to stay straight. For a recovering alcoholic, constantly being around booze makes the temptation too great to resist. & I'm sure our Ag69 friend counselor will back me up on that one.

Yep. First thing you learn is to change people, places and things that got you there in the first place. that includes barflies male or female.

Sounds nice, but the major difference is that one of them is taking full responsibility and doing something to face it head-on while the other is still in the denial/blame everybody else stage. I see no reason at this point the JG will ever have an NFL career until he takes JM's Q and checks himself into long term rehab. They don't let you bullshit yourself in those programs. They make you look right square in the mirror and see the truth as you've never been forced to see it before. The best ones take no prisoners and they don't give a shit who you are in real life.

  • Said sources say Manziel wont play this year ....do not know how they would know for sure .....

Are you sure they didn't say Gordon?

  • RT @SarahSpain: A source tells me Johnny Manziel left rehab this afternoon. Spent just over six weeks in the facility.

Off to Vegas for a much needed drink ?

  • more power to him for going to rehab (if you can call a 28 day program rehab).

BUT if it's true about taking a year off .......where and what is that going to be about? will he be working out and studying the game of football or sitting in a common area with a bunch of caffeine laced smokers watching general hospital and eating bon bons?

good luck coming back in any type of nfl football readiness. who's going to really give him a shot 2 years (because if he isn't working out and learning the playbook yadda yadda yadda, that means add a year of training) after not playing a snap of any type of competitive football?

might as well kiss that career goodbye if that's the case.

  • Lots of Ags seem to think he could retire. I don't believe it but we'll see.
