I don't like the labels and stereotyping but it goes both ways. Because I believe homosexuality is wrong I get the label as a hater or homophobe or something else. I know some gay people and I don't hate them and in fact they are nice people but I can never condone or put my stamp of approval on something I know to be wrong.

  • So why is the Bible the "go to" on why homosexuality is bad (which in itself, is a terrible, terrible argument) but then you get to ignore all of the other crazy shit in the Bible?

Just write a New-er Testament that removes that... right?

I'm guessing most politicians hide behind the bible because they don't have the balls to say what they truly believe which is pathetic politics. We are a country that until recently was a vast majority of catholics.. that is why. Separation of church and state never really existed. Our money says in god we trust ffs...

Dude a lot of them can't help it. I had a good friend come out as gay to me and he started crying.. not because it was hard to say but because he didn't want to feel those attractions. Some people just cannot help themselves so do you still think it's wrong? This guy put a lot of perspective on it for me at least.

Btw this guy is a 3rd degree black belt and most definitely not a pussy. Sadly I know that makes a difference to some people here.

I don't want to see gay people discriminated against or treated badly because they are gay. I thought civil unions were a good way to protect the rights of gays without re-defining the definition of marriage between one man and one woman. Now that is is being changed what is to stop other changes to marriage such as why a man can't have multiple wives. Why should the government be able to stop him? Isn't that his right for the pursuit of happiness?

The gay people I know I like them on a personal level but they know I cannot accept that lifestyle when it goes against clear bible teaching. I would never under any circumstances marry a gay couple and would go to jail first if the government tried to force me.

I'm happy you don't like labels, but I was expecting comments like I was saying from other posters.

How do you know homosexuality is wrong? What infallible truth do you have to show this?

  • I have absolutely nothing against gay people but the argument that people are born that way and cannot change (and that makes it normal) is a terrible argument. Pedophiles are born that way and can't change.

right and wrong is a completely different discussion.

The infallible truth for me is the bible itself. It is clearly condemned in the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. The Apostle Paul who condemned homosexuality as a sin never said it was an unpardonable sin but it was a wrong sinful lifestyle that one needed to turn away from. Paul just didn't focus on homosexuality as wrong but other sins as well. Paul was handpicked by Jesus himself to take the gospel to the Gentiles and what he wrote cannot be dismissed lightly.

Because nature designed rod B to go into slot A.

That said homosexuality is no more right or wrong than any other mental condition.

Pedophiles can make a conscious decision not to attack children. Homosexuals cannot make the conscious decision to stop from getting aroused by one sex and not the other. From what I can tell there is absolutely nothing they can do to control it.

I see your point, but it is a bit extreme comparing pedophiles to homosexuals.

Dude, your "infallible" truth is an arguably fictional book. Who is to say your bible is more right than the Koran? You, and like minded people like yourself, that's who. I respect Christians and their beliefs, and I was raised in a catholic family. A lot of good can come from being a Christian and a man of God, but when you start to mix faith and beliefs with fact and reason I cannot side with faith.

We are getting a bit off-topic here. Back to the OP, I think it is absurd that the military may ban this man regardless of his beliefs. For Christ's sake (laughed a bit as I typed that) that is what the men and women in uniform are fighting to protect.

  • Anyone can make a conscious decision to act on their sexual desires or not.

If heterosexual contact was against the law and I realized I would be imprisoned and probably tortured or killed by other inmates I will be forced to choose celibacy. you can't control the desire, you can control your own actions albeit with great difficulty.

It is not off topic because it is the Chaplain's belief in what the bible says over political correctness that got him banned.

Homosexual contact is also not against the law..? I'm assuming you're talking about pedophilia, which is completely different like I said earlier. One is illegal and the other is not. Both could be argued as "wrong" but in one case you are taking advantage of a minor and the other is a consensual act between adults.

So back to my question now that we are on track, if you were not aroused by girls then what would you do? Control your urges for your entire life? What about when your friends catch on that you haven't been with a girl in forever. You cannot fake it obviously because you can't get your prick up in bed for a girl. Put yourself in those shoes for a second and think about it. Having a friend in this situation was really eye opening to me.

I think we were discussing the morality of homosexuality versus the freedom of religion which is what I believe the OP is about. And for the record I completely believe that it is within a chaplain's right to give service to who he sees fit. The bible says homosexuality is wrong, but I know there are gay members of my mother's church.. so do they not get to pray just because they are sinners? We are all sinners. This is not a black and white subject to me

I don't know exactly what you are talking about and it seems you don't either or at the very least you are being unclear. Homosexuality, heterosexuality pedophilia are conditions that apparently cannot be changed. One is against the law, one offends many members of society and one is generally accepted. None of the three can apparently be cured. That's my point.

Again to answer your question if acting upon any urge is outside of our social mores and or against the law your only choice is to abstain from that behavior.
