Oh and just to be serious for a "moment"....has this country really never "officially" apologized for slavery? Yeah reperations aren't gonna happen but frankly, if an apology was never officially released...that's kind of horseshit. Fuck didn't we apologize for nuking the japs? You people seem to have this idea that if our govt apologized for slavery that somehow it makes present day people personally accountable for something that happened before their time. It's symbolic, but it's important enough for a society to do it because it says "this shit ain't happening again". And anybody that resists that, imo, is potentially someone that says hey we don't know what the future will bring..maybe we'll need slaves again in the future. You can't seem to visualize how life was during that era and you ignore the fact that slavery up to that time was a part of WORLD culture and ECONOMICS...it wasn't just a USA thing. I would be willing to bet that the descendants of slave owners are a tiny minority of the population. The vast majority of the current U.S. population are immigrants who's ancestors emigrated after slavery.
