    Really?

  • Been watching all the OTA footage I can find and I've yet to see JM smile yet.

Serious, nose-to-the-grindstone dedication or simply no joy?

Yep...the early whispers are that he's struggling some(and really pressing)......and that McCown looks like the clear leader so far, as he should be......

  • hey....even if it's 50%, that would mean we still hit on 5 out of 6 picks and that is WAY above average.....

so, while Id like every player to be great, I do understand that it's not a realistic expectation for any team or GM.....

Pragmatic = realistic.....in case anyone is wondering......

Mostly local media who are attending the ota's....

  • Well, I guess so. Gilbert will probably still have a bad attitude.

  • Way to early to make judgements yet. Lets see what happens in July and August. I hope they both light it up.

Yep, I hope so too....I want them ALL to do well.....not really judging, just noting his current progress and the observations of some who are watching....(it's pretty much what we'll all be doing until August)

so if he looked great, would it have been ok to say "wow, he looks great"...???....

or should we just not talk about him till something good happens.....???

    It's kinda nice l think.

The media is trying. I've heard "he looked great on this pass" to "he got pick 6'd on this pass", but no one seems to really care.

But the general vibe l'm getting from the fan base is more or less "whatever..."

    Perfect.

I personally wish we could trade Manziel.. I see him as nothing but a major distraction to this team. And that is weather or not he succeeds or not as a QB.. I think its a distraction this team does not need.. I personally hope he falls flat on his head and we dump him,. I want a pocket passer.. That's where the game is won.... Think about it.. Randall Cunningham, Michael Vick and Donovan 'choke' McNabb have netted 0 championships.

Donovan McNabb went to 5 NFC championship games and a Super Bowl, 6 time Pro Bowler. If a Browns QB put that type of resume up before I die I'd name my first born son after him.

Donovan McNabb is overrated.. puhleeze... He choked when it really counted.. He held on to the ball so hard when he threw it in the superbowl, all his passes fell to the ground. No thanks.

The interesting perspective has always been the question: What if the Browns had taken McNabb instead of Couch?

The answer may be: while McNabb may have gotten beaten up just as much as Couch, he may not have gotten injured the way Couch did, but he would never have had those Conf. title game and SB appearances..

Right now, McNabb is a borderline HOF candidate. My impression would be that he does NOT make it. He and Steve McNair seem similar.....and not just because they are both black and their names begin with McNa... Though, those do help in the comparison.

Both had good solid careers, played on good teams that were regular playoff participants. Both had one SB losing appearance.

In fact here are their career statistics....very similar:

Record as starter: McNabb 98-62-1, McNair 91-62

    Comp/Atts: McNabb 3170/5374 for 59.0%, McNair 2733/4544 60.1%

    Yards: McNabb 37,276 McNair 31,304

TDs: McNabb 234 (4.4% TD rate), McNair 174 (3.8% TD rate)

    Ints: McNabb 117 (2.2%), McNair 119 (2.6%)

    Rating: McNabb 85.6, McNair 82.8

    CA: McNabb 138, McNair 126

Playoff record: McNabb 9-7, McNair 5-5

So, yes a lot of similarities. and yes, alphabetically they are right next to each other of all QBs who have ever played in the NFL.

Agree... my point was that whatever you thought/ think of JM his joy of playing the game was undeniable. If he loses that, it is a cause for concern.

I agree....gotta love what you're doin to be great at it....though some do lose the love once it becomes a job and there is big pressure to perform......

It sounds like Browns have no use for unimproved Manziel
    By Justin TerranovaMay 29, 2015 | 1:32pm:
Teammates have raved about a more determined Johnny Manziel off the field, but it appears not much has changed on the field.
ESPN Cleveland reports that Manziel resembled the same quarterback who struggled mightily in two starts last season for the Browns. This is no great surprise being that it’s May and Manziel spent over 10 weeks of his offseason in rehab for an undisclosed substance. But here’s the description from ESPN’s Tony Grossi on how Manziel played this week:
‘The only day media were allowed in to view one of the three OTA practices, Manziel looked unchanged from his rookie year. He was not assertive with knowing where to go with the ball and ran too much for an OTA practice. A person who witnessed a practice after the open media session said that Manziel was worse the second day.’
More damning than Manziel’s performance on the field is the description of how the Browns are viewing his competition with Josh McCown. The veteran quarterback — with 13 years of mediocrity on his resume — provides the steadiness the Browns desire.
Cleveland and coach Mike Pettine plan to win games by running the football and depending on their defense.
“My focus is just how good can I be at decision-making,” McCown said before OTAs began. “Just holding myself to a high standard, where it never puts us in a bad situation and the defense is always playing with favorable fields. That’s what I hope people see as we move into the season.”
McCown has 61 touchdowns to 59 interceptions in his career to go along with 6.63 yards per attempt average.
Manziel doesn’t sound like the answer right now, but the solution doesn’t sound too appetizing, either.
  • What's encouraging about that?

  • It's called sarcasm

  • Well if Johnny Rehab doesn't have the tools to play QB in the NFL, he will get a pink slip before the next draft.
