  • I wonder if the thought ever occurred to Manziel to just give the little douchebag an autograph when he first asked for it. But who knows how he was "asked". If the kid was polite about it that's one thing, but if he said some stupid shit which I suspect he did, that's another. Either way it shouldn't have taken two hours to resolve. Something is wrong with that picture.

Irrelevant to the point we're discussing. Browns fans, despite your claims, proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that they wanted to be fans of a bad boy QB.

Maybe lots of 12 year olds bought jerseys.

I run a Browns fan website and am president of Browns Backer chapter of 300 or so fans.

Never got the indication that Browns fans want a "bad boy" QB.

Starving for a good one ... yes. Hoping he's a 5'11 elf that flips people off ... no.

But we will take that if he's good.

    Pretty simple, really.

If Manziel's sales were higher than Weeden's then I would say they do. And they were.

    Unless JFF was boozing again.

  • nobody liked the weeden pick and a lot of us didn't like the manziel pick.

the only fans that were in a fevered pitch about manziel coming to the browns and that stormed the jersey sales were the fagboy A&M fans or any kid that likes watching a midget run around and fling up prayers to a WR that won him more games than deserved. (btw, would all of you A&M fans have rushed to become brown's fans if we were to have drafted mike evans?) yes little girls and little girl/boys are his biggest fanbase.

to put manziel in the same sentence as the other QBs mentioned above is laughable. hilarious! hell, i can't stop laughing!! HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!HA! 😆😆😆😆

  • Reading the whole story, if all the kid wanted was an autograph and I wanted to shoo him away - sign the damn thing and be done with it.

  • So.... he is arguably the most successful quarterback of all time and completely deflates, if you will, your theory.

Cleveland Browns fans were "impressed" enough to put him in the top 5 or something nuts like that of jersey sales before ever even taking a snap. Did Weeden do that? McCoy? Quinn? Clearly Browns fans really wanted him to be the guy, and his personality had something to do with that.

Johnny fans were impressed, not Browns fans.. The difference between Johnny and Weeden/McCoy/Quinn is that the other 3 didnt come with a million queer college fans who worship the ground they walk on. All those "cleveland fans' that bought those jersey were really just Johnny come latelys who became Browns fans only after the knucklehead was drafted. I guarantee his sales would been the same no matter where he landed.

And by October, Hoyers jersey was outselling Johnnys. Why? Because Johnny let everybody down.

So, yeah, of course the Cleveland fans want him to be great. And it's understandable why they feel screwed. Dont see what is so hard to understand here.

Where are his jersey sales now? Because Im thinking they are falling like rain and there is a reason for that

  • You only have to read the thousand articles and threads debating this guy to see that he is completely polarizing and a lightening rod for trouble. He has created a rift in the fan base and probably some of the team. They are people with opinions, just like us, and Ill guess that he has divided some of them.

Obviously, he's brought a lot of negativity to the Browns. Now Im looking for the positives. Anyone got any????

    Jersey and ticket sales.

  • UPDATE: Mary Kay Cabot passes along a statement from an Irving police spokesperson:

Details: Irving police spokesman told Cleveland.com a fan harassed Johnny manziel at hotel pool. Refused to stop…. Manziel threw a water bottle at the man, an 18-year-old. Things escalated. Hotel security intervened, then police also intervened… Police did not detect that Manziel had been drinking. Fan decided not to press charges. No charges filed.

So now we find out it was actually at the hotel pool and not at the golf course. Yeah JM needs to stay way from living any kind of life. Give me an f'n break.

And you "fans" who are always quick to throw him under the bus need to crawl back in your holes.

As pointed out above, sign the frickin' autograph, thank the fan and enjoy your pool time.

Why is the onus on Johnny to sign the autograph? If a guy doesn't want to sign the autograph, the fan should respect that and leave.

If Haden had refused and this whole schpiel had occurred, I'm willing to bet every single person in here would have been on the "this fan was a pushy ass douchebag" train.

well he should have watched the tourney from his $$$$ condo IN CLEVELAND, where he should be learning THE PLAYBOOK.

i don't care what he thinks of my opinion of him because dollars to donuts he'll be off the browns after this year anyways.

I doubt it. Just because you're butthurt over the things he gets to do doesn't mean he'll be going anywhere.

Even if he's marginal, he'll be on the team next season.

Based on the article I think the "fan" in this case was a "pushy ass douchebag". Only makes it even easier for JM to be the bigger person here. I'd think he'd want to diffuse the situation right off the bat.

  • Johnny is still a boy, and until he grows into a man, he'll continue to make boyish decisions. Men need to be led by a man, and right now the kid isn't even close to being a leader, and hell, we haven't even talked about his lack of size, questionable arm strength, inability to read an NFL defense or inability to grasp the playbook.

Time will tell, and the clock is ticking..............

Even men make boyish decisions from time to time - see: Brady, Tom. The fact that this non-story has become a point of contention just shows the polarity of Manziel...and not in a good way. The level-headed among us realize that it's nothing, while the detractors are attempting to use this as another example of Manziel being "unworthy" to be a Browns QB (whatever that means) and the zealots are using this as a platform to voice how unfair Manziel's life is.

He's not going to sit in his room and study 24/7. To expect that is stupid - regardless of what any of us would supposedly do in that situation. (And I'm willing to bet that any single one of us would have gone to a large golf tournament in our spare time in our home state had we the money and the time off.) Manziel will go to events, he will live his life, and he will be photographed doing so. Those are the facts.

Getting heckled by a fan (while not drinking) at a golf tournament and throwing a water bottle are, in some ways, a sign of maturity for Manziel. Because this time last year he was passed out, face down on an inflatable swan in a Vegas pool.

The trolls and the blowhards can pissed off that he didn't offer the guy's child a free scholarship, then tip his hat and float away on a cloud of high-class good samaritan vibes. The ones of us who are actually realists can take solace in the fact that he's not as bad as he was at this point last year.

From both the ESPN report and the NFL.com report, it seems like he did try to diffuse the situation multiple times.

"Police were in the area and asked Manziel's camp some questions about what had happened, the friend said. "There was no malicious intent. We separated the situation," said the friend, who spoke with the cops along with Manziel. "We told the cops, 'Will you please make sure there's distance between us?'"

Manziel was polite to the fan the first 10 times he sought a picture, telling him he was with his girlfriend and friends he hadn't seen in a while, the friend said. He didn't want to take hundreds of pictures with fans.

Eventually, the fan grabbed Manziel from behind and Manziel asked, "'Can you please not do that? Just please leave me alone,'" the friend said.

Manziel was with friends who were waiting on an Uber ride outside of the golf course when they encountered the fan again. Among the fan's insults to Manziel, the friend said, was "Ryan Tannehill is way better than you.""

I'm not sure what else Manziel was supposed to do. Sure, throwing a water bottle is certainly childish behavior, though I feel he gave the "fan" more than enough leeway. If it were me, it would have only taken half of those occurrences for me to knock the kid out cold.

    double-talk much??

TCPO you're just pissed cuz it's another guy you backed that's turning out to be a complete flop.

as far as the joe haden comment goes, it's a completely valid argument. joe haden would've given the dope an autograph and taken a picture with him. joe haden would've walked away or had security take care of the problem if a problem persisted.

    fans love joe haden.

    johnny, not so much.

and as far as you knocking the kid out, you would be in jail and facing assault charges, hiring a lawyer and spending quite a lot of time in the court houses which i'm sure your employer would understand. mature move there tim.

Oh fuck off. Why are you even here? Johnny Manziel is a no talent ass clown. He's short, too slow to evade NFL DEs and LBs, his arm isn't as strong as he thinks it is, he's too stupid to read a defense, and he's too much of an alcoholic to ever be the leader of an NFL team. The guy was given every opportunity to succeed and he's blown it time and time again. The sooner this asshole goes back to Texas, the better.

You want the guy to live in a cave? Haden goes to Cavs games, so does Joe Thomas. If he wants to spend a weekend at a golf tournament during the off season, (Johnny loves golf) I have no problem with that.

So the guy is fucking with him and he got pissed off.

Not how a starting NFL QB should act ... but then again, Johnny is not a starting NFL QB.

What troubles me is the throw missed its target.

Reading the latest reports, guy was majorly screwing with him.

I wonder if the thought ever occurred to Manziel to just give the little douchebag an autograph when he first asked for it. But who knows how he was "asked". If the kid was polite about it that's one thing, but if he said some stupid shit which I suspect he did, that's another. Either way it shouldn't have taken two hours to resolve. Something is wrong with that picture.

You don't HAVE to give out autographs, or let the guy pose for a selfie with you. I believe Le Bron frequently doesn't. However- Manziel probably should have just left the area before it got to the bottle throwing stage. I do sort of understand the mentality. Hey, I play in the NFL, and you're a 18 year old nobody jackass.

The "hotel" is the nerve center of that Golf Tournament.

"The result was a dust up at the pool of the Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas, site of this week's stop on the PGA Tour."

We have a preference for those that actually play.

Yes, he was... but our uber competitive, 22 yo QB apprentice couldn't resist trying to outdo him.

I found myself asking this same question - however I realize this.... its an EXTREME privilege to be able to play in the NFL. Couple that with a quality athlete and more important a quality person - should be able to humble themselves at all times, be the better man and (even if they aren't willing) grit your teeth for a signing or two. If it was 50 people lining up, mobbing the guy I'd be able to understand. If it was one fucking kid, sign it, shake his hand and say you're looking to get some R&R in.

edit: The Haden comparison is rubbish because Joe, from my experience, takes serious time out for the fans and we love him for it.
