Which Scenario Fits Best?

The Browns Board
19 8 880
  • The Kurt Warner: McCown is the unquestioned starter heading in to the season, but gets injured in pre-season. The FO has a chance to try to trade for someone but decides to roll with the unproven QB already on their roster, who then leads them to the superbowl.

Bonus: Andy Lee takes 'punters union' revenge on Antonio Brown by knocking him out on the first return of the game.

  • Not according to script TCPO but this is my prediction how it plays out:

McCown starts and finishes the season. Manziel learns valuable NFL skills and lessons from McCown this year, not a wasted year for him at all. Everyone in the NFL is surprised at the play of McCown (except those who knew McCown can do well with a team that has talent as he did with the Bears 2 seasons ago) The Browns finish 10-6 with a couple close losses that would have given them an even better season record. 10-6 gets them into the playoffs and may even win the division with the tough schedule all the division teams play this season. In the playoffs anything can happen.

  • Scenario 1: The Brett Favre

McCown wins 4 games in 2015, 8 games in 2016 and 13 games in 2017. Manziel sits on the bench all season and we don't see what we have in him.
McCown retires and Manziel comes in and leads us to a 6-10 season before engineering a streak of playoff seasons.

BONUS: McCown unretires, becomes the starting QB in Buffalo and shows his junk to Rex Ryan.

    Scenario 2: The Alex Smith

McCown wins 13 games in 2015 and we narrowly miss the Super Bowl. Manziel sits on the bench all season and we don't see what we have in him.
McCown gets injured in Week 10. Manziel comes in and tears it up, we never look back...for a few years.
McCown is ultimately traded. Manziel has a solid two years of stardom before offenses catch up and he's forced to do things he's not comfortable with, like complete passes.
BONUS: The entire Browns defense retires.

    Scenario 3: The Kyle Boller

McCown gets injured in the offseason. Manziel takes over for 2015 and becomes our franchise QB for the rest of his career.
Manziel grows a unibrow and people constantly debate whether or not he's elite.
BONUS: Duke Johnson punches Janae Rice in the face.

    Scenario 4: The George Shaw

McCown gets benched at halftime in the first game, Manziel takes over and passes for four touchdowns and rushes for another.

Manziel becomes our franchise QB for the next 5 years, gets nominated to two Pro Bowls with us, then gets traded to New York for a few years, then gets traded back to Cleveland and leads us to three Super Bowls...all of which he loses.

BONUS: Manziel writes a few post-football self-help books and founds a very successful computer-related empire.

Personally, I think scenario 4 is the most fitting. What do you guys think?

Interesting that you would use a George Shaw analogy.....which by reference then you say that JMZ will become tantamount to another Johnny....Unitas?

  • I prefer the Brad Johnson/Trent Dilfer analogy:

Journeyman QBs get to bring game management style to team with Awesome defense and good running game, win Super Bowl.

    The only Scenario I want.

  • The Gary Danielson

McCown has us off to a nice 3-2 start but gets injured, and Manziel is forced into action. Relying heavily on defense and the running game (2 x 1,000 yard rushers), the Browns win the division with an 8-8 record and almost surprise in the playoffs. This is the start of a run in which they make the playoffs five consecutive years with four division titles and 3 trips to the AFC Championship. Manziel becomes a Pro Bowler, gets seriously injured after five years, suffers "diminishing skills" and is cut from the team while they are in first place after drawing up his last touchdown pass in the dirt. He bounces around the league, gets a ring as a backup, he loses all of his money, his daughter becomes a porn actress and he does color commentary for Browns preseason games while drunk, and fans still love him. Except Ghoolie. Ghoolie hates him. McCown serves as a reliable backup for a couple years and then moves to Fort Myers FL and becomes the #1 college football analyst covering the SEC.

BONUS: Terrence West fumbles away a possible Super Bowl berth, but goes on to get a ring as the feature back on 17-2 Super Bowl winner and comes back to play for the Browns before they move to Bal

    Nevermind.

I was actually referring to the second rookie backup QB who usurped Shaw's job and then went on to have a Hall of Fame career - Fran Tarkenton.

Are you saying that Todd Philcox is an SEC football analyst? Or is that Vinny?

Oh, I thought perhaps you were referring to Frank Tripuka. 😉

Shaw had some of the worst luck in the history of the NFL. Replaced by Unitas, backup to Conerly, replaced by Tarkenton, replaced by Tripuka. He may have been the unluckiest first overall pick in the history of the NFL.

Right....I was thinking of the guys that replaced Bernie, not who he replaced.
