just a smarmy remark to rile up an opposing fan (besides, he's new here so gotta give him a little taste of what he's in store for). i was laughing as i typed it. 😎

Haha I kinda gave it a raised eyebrow when I read it and thought that maybe you're a huge Manziel fan with a lot of faith.

Sammy Watkins is damn special. Unfortunately - the guys throwing him the ball aren't. I have this nagging fear that he'll get tired of ODB getting all the press and want out if they can't get a halfway decent QB by the start of next season.

But that's probably just my Buffalo fan inferiority complex talking. I hope...

i guess. all i know is there were (and still are) a lot of disgruntled browns fans pissed that we didn't take him in the draft. thing is, adding a star WR to a team w/o a QB is like buying sprinkles for an ice cream cone....w/o an ice cream cone.

  • Stupid discussion. Buffalo needs a QB before Watkins has a prayer.

  • As to the Manziel autograph I would refer you to the guy who pestered him for one for 4 freakin' hours before finally getting a water bottle thrown his way. He also recently had an autograph session in College Station that cost you over a hundred bucks to stand in line for two hours, so outlook not so good. However if you happen to be a kid with cancer you have a good chance of him bringing you to a game along with anything you want signed. Or if you are challenged intellectually Joe Haden could get one from him for you.

Or just be a Bills fan and watch this before seeing Haden.

I heard about that incident and thought I might be setting myself up for some ribbing even asking the question. But I think there's a difference between hounding a guy during the offseason in the middle of a golf game and a sanctioned Browns function where players often sign.

Thanks for the advice. I just have to let Jimmy punch me in the face and/or get over Novocaine'd and i'll be all set! 😁

I definitely agree that having Watkins without a halfway decent QB in place isn't a good look. They severely overestimated EJ Manuel from Day 1. I just hope they can create an offense under this new staff that can allow one of them to have at least an average year.

But Buffalo doesn't have a need at Center - Eric Wood is solid. They needed two new Guard's, which they got in Richie Incognito and John Miller. And even without a solid QB - I think most Bills fans wouldn't trade Sammy Watkins for Justin Gilbert and Cameron Erving.

Funny to see Rex trashed and Pettine praised as well. Pettine was Rex's understudy and is known for his defense - which is Rex's defense with a little tweaking. I liked Pettine when he was in Buffalo. But i'd rather have Rex.

I don't think my team's a Super Bowl contender or anything. But I don't think they're as bad off as the above posts would seem.

  • They were a bottom 5 run blocking OL in the league.

i think we might all agree that who ever has been in charge recently for the bills has done a great job of building that team, especially on defense. and the fact that pettine was a part of that building phase gives us browns fans more resolve that things are going the right way here. the acquisition of shady is another feather in your caps but for the life of me (without googling it) i don't know who you have starting at QB this year. i think the bills and the browns missed out a couple of years ago on alex smith. we might not have been ready then but last year he might have made all the difference in the world to take you guys over the top.

I'll take Pet's steady resolve over Rex's bombast any day of the week.

Rex is a chip off the old block... and the old block, Buddy, was as toxic of a personality as the NFL has seen. That's my issue with Rex. He seemed a bit chastened in his last weeks with NYJ. If that sticks, then maybe, just maybe he will succeed with the Bills. But the set-up is just too similar... Sooner or later his mouth is going to overload his ass while his rose-colored cornea fail to see team flaws.

Enjoy 2015... If Rex holds form it'll be one of your more successful seasons under him.

    As for your trade analysis...

Based upon production to date it's hard to argue against it...

But I was one of the bigger Sammie backers here...

Right up until Khalil Mack was available at four.

However, the book has just closed on the deal...

It'll be fun to revisit its impact in 2016 and 2017.

Pretty much sums it up....the Ryan boys just seem like weirdos to me....

My opinions on Pettine are more based upon his leadership skills and the professional-winning mentality(& culture?) he has brought to the team.....not his defensive strategy....so, while he might have come from Ryans system, he surely didnt gain his character & professional calm demeanor from him....

All I see is Pettines team just getting better, while I cant say the same for what happened in NY....

We all have our opinions, but only time will tell......

This pretty much remains to be seen. Gilbert didn't have a good first year....but seems to be improving. Erving hasn't played an NFL down yet...so that is clearly up in the air.

As for Watkins.....looks good....but so did Braylon Edwards, drafted even higher than Watkins. So for all we know Watkins could be the second coming of Braylon. Not saying it will happen....but it could.

  • i don't get why the nfl doesn't schedule buffalo vs. cleveland every year in what would become 'the battle of lake erie' rivalry. blue collar vs. blue collar.

  • Are any non-division games scheduled every year?

  • I've always kind of liked Rex Ryan and his little brother Rob, especially when he was DC here. I've grown to like Mike Pettine.

They have a system that works. If Cleveland and Buffalo keep coming in last place all the time they will always meet. Same if they come in first place. That is why there was such a frequent Colts/Pats rivalry. With Brady and Peyton playing for those teams, they always won their division...thus met the first place teams of the other AFC divisions.

Think about: When is the last time the Jets/Bills/Dolphins/Jags/Titans/Texans were ever any challenge for their divisions for the Pats and Colts? Going on about a decade ago no?

  • Why would we always meet if we both keep coming in last place?

Do you not know the scheduling rules of the NFL?

A common question I get from football fans concerns the NFL's scheduling procedures and how a team's opponents are determined. Since the realignment that moved the NFL to an eight-division league, the scheduling format has become quite simple actually.

Each team plays home and away against its three division opponents, which accounts for six games on the schedule.

Each team plays four teams from another division within its conference on a rotating three-year cycle, which accounts for four more games.

Messed it up.....better to just give the link:
  • Hmm I did not know that. Learn something new every day.

What Gipper describes is also really what creates parody in the NFL in terms of having "worst to first" teams every year and big playoff differences. Essentially it breaks down to playing two teams that were at the same level as you the previous year. For the Browns this year, that means we play the the Titans and Jets. With the season being 16 games, two games against weaker competition (seemingly) can make the difference in a playoff berth or not. Take that against the Steelers who instead will play the Colts and Patriots. Now, if only the Browns could ever be the worst to first team...
