Gonna beat the dead horse on this one but why invite the circus and waste a first round pick to "see if Johnny can be a legitimate quarterback or not.". Don't the Browns have more pressing needs? Haslam seems like an owner that likes to meddle but has no clue.

Nah- pretty sure the circus left town after JF stunk it up last year. He still draws above average interest- but not much more than say Gino Smith.

Boston didn't embrace the New England Patriots when they got blown out in a Superbowl and stunk for 10 years during the mid 80s-90s. In my book they can't claim they now.

Id agree.....not nearly the distraction we had last year.....

He's really just another player now, which is how it should be.....if he blows up, then so will the media and THEN it will be well earned and for all the right reasons.....

So far, Im enjoying this years camp and post draft season sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much more than I did last year....🙂

  • I read around today that he did a lot of of work out of the shotgun today and looked noticeably better than previous days in camp. Was camp open today did anyone see the QB's work?

I clicked on the link, scrolled down a bit, and my eyes were immediately drawn to "Johnny Manziel is the Browns' best hope". I was instantly overcome by grief and sadness, which quickly turned into nausea.

So yea, it's fair to say I disagree.

Well if you had heard Kevin Gilbride on NFL Network this morning then you would have been hospitalized. He said that at some point the O under McCown will bog down to the point that they will have to bring in JF as the starter "to provide a spark". He apparently agrees with this article that it's just not going to be workable with McCown as QB.

I had to check the post date on this. Sounds like last season.

JM "sparked" the Browns right out off playoff contention last season.

  • Sounds like Haslam is laying the pipeline out that its ok for now if JM falls behind Shaw for the backup? Preseason game time will determine a bunch.

And if they demote him to 3rd string after all the steps he has taken then they lose him forever. He'll ask for a trade or release.

Every kid doesn't get a trophy.

Conner Shaw has credentials of his owm so if he plays better so be it. Owner speaks of being patient with JM and you're talking about him taking his ball and going home.

  • And if he's dropped to 3rd string, then no Browns fan will care...

I don't think there is anything calculated in Haslam's JM statement. I think it is simply an owner reflecting what his brain trust (not his brain) is telling him. And that seems to be that while not ready, he still has a shot.

Why would any other team be bothered to trade for him if he can't crack the top 2 QB spots on a team starved for QB talent? That isn't even considering the off the field nonsense from last season.

  • Well I see I caught a few fish with my statement. I just think it is amazing how people here think he is already headed for 3rd string by day 4 and completely ignore his one excellent day. How did that happen anyway? Not the ignoring part, the part where he failed on only 1 pass all day. What does it mean? Did he "get it" and then lose it overnight? Should it be treated as an aberration?

  • Well, Saturday wasn't his excellent day. I think Manziel can really play,

but it depends on when he gets it all together. Connor Shaw has played

well, and did last year... because it wasn't a lost year for him, like it was

    for Johnny.

So, it'll take time to see him get it together. That's okay, Connor Shaw can play.

I hope, as most everybody else does, that McCown stays healthy and rocks the place.

For me training camp and pre season mean almost nothing. Where you prove whether or not you can play is in the regular season, and playoffs for some teams, and Manziel has played awful during that time. Maybe he will turn it around but if I were a gambling man I'd sell.

People have good days, people have bad days. So far Johnny has had three less than stellar days and one exceptional day.

Meanwhile, Connor Shaw has had four relatively strong days. Personally, I think that warrants Connor getting a few reps with the 2's, if only as a commendment for a job well done with the 3's and 4's.

Declare your starters and have churn at the bottom. Right now, Johnny isn't a starter, so a competition for the backup spot should be completely fair game.

Shelton, Erving, et al are getting more reps with the 2's than the 1's because they have to earn their position.
